yamaha fazer 150 2012 model Exhaust pop on deceleration
the story is simple but bit complicated,
bought a second hand fazer 2012 model 3 days back
50k+ km finished ,looks neat
while test driving noticed the popping sound from exhaust while deceleration, consulted a local mechanic though, said will be minor thing air filter related can be fixed nothing to worry,
apart from this the bike is nice to ride perform well, finally i bought it.
second day given to the local mechanic to fix , regular serivice, oil change oil filter change done,
carb cleaned, spark plug changed, said the sound is reduced and will be fine in few days.
i felt the same fire cracking sound on the way back, only while accelerating bit high and after sudden declaration the sound is coming , some times sound or sometimes a simple burning noise.
carb cleaned, spark plug new, air filter is ok.
now what should i do to rectify this ?
i am thinking of visiting yamaha service centre.
i would like ti know the reason. and is it harmful in any way??
please spread some light ..i am in the middle of nowhere
thanks

YAMAHA FZ 16 Jerking Issue (carburetor model)
Hi,
I own a YAMAHA fz16 from 2013 and I got the bike as a brand new . I left the bike unattended for 6 months recently as I traveled abroad. When I came back, I found my bike starts jerking at lower gears and even it was getting switched off. I gave the bike for service to a local mechanic near by and checked the following
1) Valve seating adjusted (Lathe work) - Done
2) Carb cleaning - Done
3) Air screw adjustment ( Not able to adjust as the screw has been pasted after previous adjustment, only way is to give it to the lathe and remove the air screw, put a new one and adjust again) - Not Done (Tomorrow I am going to proceed with this)
4) Air filter - Changed
5) Oil Filter - Changed
Mechanic Suggestion:
3rd point
I still face the same problem again the bike jerks at lower gears and switches off every now and then. I would like to know the exact reason/ things which we would need to check. I would say there were no problem with my bike experienced with respect to the engine till now and this problem looks to be weird
.

Re: YAMAHA FZ 16 Jerking Issue (carburetor model)
It is called Backfiring. Normally backfire occurs when there is some unburnt fuel inside the combustion chamber and ignited by the heat of the chamber.Originally posted by cool6 View Postthe story is simple but bit complicated,

Remedies:
1. Check Carburetor setting (rich or lean) and adjust the fuel screw (brown screw) by rotating 3 complete counter-clockwise turns or slightly more from the locking point. If you cannot, then don't screw it up, go to Yamaha Authorised Service Center and request the mechanic to adjust it and clean the jets carefully and not in hurry.
2. Check the fuel tank if there is water or not, normally water inside a fuel tank will look like round bubbles just below.
3. Last one. Change the petrol pump. Always opt for company owned pumps than unroof petrol pumps.
Your issue is related to non-adjusted valve clearance or tappet clearance. Did your mechanic adjust valve clearance with filler gauge? In FZ series, the valve clearance is 0.08-0.12mm in Intake & 0.12-0.16mm in Exhaust. Take minimum clearance otherwise there will be noise. And, while doing the clearance make sure your bike piston is in TDC (top dead center) and verify the alignment at the magnet cover (engine cover at left side) whether they are misaligned while adjusting.Originally posted by sunilsr1986 View PostHi,

To check AFR settings, you see there is any black carbon deposit or white ash like deposit in spark plug, the first cause is for rich AFR and later is for lean AFR. Adjust the carburetor as I said in the above thread.
P.S. Don't wash the carburetor so often, because it is very sophisticated thing in vehicle, any damage can burn more fuel or heat up engine.
BTW, What is lathe work for valve adjustment?Last edited by saikatbyte; 04-14-2018, 07:10 PM.Regards

or affect anything ? or its just sound and can i keept it as it is ?

Backfiring from exhaust will not harm engine parts.Originally posted by cool6 View Postok i think ill go to the service centre Monday.. im not much into DIY stuffs on bikes.

Re: YAMAHA FZ 16 Jerking Issue (carburetor model)
Thanks for the advice. Between when the mechanic tried to adjust the carb air screw, it got broke. Need to replace the carb now [emoji20]Originally posted by saikatbyte View PostIt is called Backfiring. Re: YAMAHA FZ 16 Jerking Issue (carburetor model)
Finally got my bike serviced . The following things are done by the mechanicOriginally posted by sunilsr1986 View PostThanks for the advice. Between when the mechanic tried to adjust the carb air screw, it got broke. Need to replace the carb now [emoji20]
Carburetor changed(since the stock one was broken)
Valve set changed
Piston rings changed
New battery
Speedometer console change
Fork complete work(both sides)
Oil filter
Air filter
Wheel bearing s
Engine oil
Labour
Total 17k
After everything, his advise was piston and clutch plate were weak and i would need to change it after 10k kms.
One issue noted after all :
With the current piston rings it would take a bit of time for seating . If i reduce the gear From 3 to 2 and then increase the throttle the bike would lag in pick up it takes a bit of time to catch the speed.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Fitted the fazer windshield by own at home and got it covered with rainbow film. It looks sexy and different. 40000 kms clocked.
Major Parts got changed during october 2015 till now are
1. Chain sprocket set once
2. Piston and ring (own mistake)
3. Handlebar 4 times (everytime it fall, new one)
4. Brake pad front twice
5. Drum brake rear twice
6. Handle end stopper 3 times
7. Front shocks (machine press)
8. Spark Plug once
9. Tyres (Rear : 3rd MRF revz c1 150/60/17) (front : 2nd MRF Nylogrip Zapper YZF 100/60/17)
Only this much and normal servicing after regular intervals. Still my bike can go 600 kms continuously without any heat up, engine cut off and radiator hot air issues comparo to big capacity bikes in any temperature. [emoji41]
Love this machine. Very reliable.Last edited by Ridernitin; 04-19-2018, 06:00 AM.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Yeah, old gen FZs are gem. They require very less maintenance. If you are travelling more often in highway, I prefer you to put Michelin Pilot Street (not Sporty) 140/70 R17 tyres, you will gain some more speed in each gear, like 84-85kmph in 6000rpm than 79-80kmph. Also, for slightly responsive throttle & fuel economy, use NGK CR8EIX Spark plug, 600/-, it doesn't need adjustments/regapping, will last 25K kms.Originally posted by Ridernitin View PostOnly this much and normal servicing after regular intervals. I didn't spend much in my 49k km ownership. Why didn't he replace the cylinder kit & piston also, only piston rings!Originally posted by sunilsr1986 View PostTotal 17kRegards

You are absolutely true about the old fzs bike and thanks for the suggestions on tyre and spark plug. I will consider them for my bike.
The default tyre which every fzs get was doing good but a single puncture hole with time converted into a big one and so big that even after applying three sticks from tubeless puncture kit were unable to stop air in it. I changed it to MRF Revz C 150/60/17 after only 12000 kms only. This one was a soft compound tyre performing very well in dry as well as on wet roads. But this also went into vain after some 15000 kms with 7 punctures in it and cracks. Replaced it with MRF Revz C1 150/60/17. Current tyre is bae....freaking good....from last 13000 kms i am using it without single puncture and is performing awesome in every condition. I think its a hard compound tyre. [emoji41]
