• Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S

Hi all,

I bought a preowned Yamaha fzs, 2014, 17200kms last week from my neighbour.

He went to china for 4 yrs for his company work, and i saw he used his bike continuosly, so i bought that with confident.

I changed fz with new engine oil, Motul 20w50 (1 liter -- and i have to pour another 200ml today or tomorrow for changed the oil filter ), New oil filter, spark plug and air filter, drive chain was cleaned and lubricated and slack adjusted by myself.

By outer look it feels well maintained and by internaly after using a week i found more vibrations in foot pegs and tank bottom area , which we used to hug our thighs while driving.

Any suggestions welcome......

Stock or Pirelli Sport Demon if you can find it.

If you're fine with oversizing, there are a lot of options in 110/70.

Do not over size front tyre. It will effect the distance and speed calculated on the Speedo meter.

Well, I'm not the one who owns the FZ.

Anyway, It will affect the readings, but it's upto The_supersic, who asked the question.

No, you need indicator adapter to fit the led indicator to further fit to stock holes.
Indicator Adapters are available in AliExpress though.

Not a direct fit.

But, you can fit using washers since Yamaha holes are big and odd shaped. You need to cut Duke indicator wires since connectors are different. Also have to change indicator flasher to electronic once since flash rate will be faster.

Hey Guys
This is my first post in xbhp i am originally from Kerala but now in pune studying automobile designing for my degree .I own a 2011 fz-s now converted to fz 16. I always loved the fz when it came out with its huge wheels and the body design just was perfect. This is my first geared bike,i have had a Honda dio earlier but sold it.I bought the bike from my father's friend he has taken care of it real well. The day i got it i serviced it,changed the MRF tires to Michelin pilot sporty(140 rear and 100 front) and tried spray painting the panels because the paint had shown its age.It came out disastrous and later repainted everything to gloss black from a proper painter in pune. Now currently the bike is in Kerala but will be taking it back to pune within a week.I have done some pretty good mods to the bike.Hope everyone like it.

The mileage in the city is about 40kmpl (bumper to bumper traffic) while mixed usage on Highways and city will return about 45kmpl. And riding in the economy mode at all time will get you close to 50kmpl and it's a nice figure when compared to Suzuki Gixxer.

The overall mileage had been around 45 kmlp in Pune traffic with sedate riding style ( dad uses this bike for daily office commute of about 30 km to and fro).

There has been some sound from the engine I suspect it to be tappets, but don't know for sure.

The brakes are weak (dual disk variant) as compared to a Gixxer (I ride a Gixxer with dual disk).

FZs has a slightly bigger turning radius than Gixxer.

I personally find the Gixxer to be more comfortable in terms of seat and riding position. The seats on the fz are hard and give me a butt ache on longer rides.

Can't say anything on the smoothness as the fz is fuel injected while my Gixxer is carb variant. The fuel injection will anyday be smoother than the carb.

One thing to remember on the fz is that never let it run out of petrol, as soon as the reserve light flickers fill it up.

The fuel gauge on the fz is a bit erratic, it seem to have a mind of its own.

Overall the fz should be reliable if services properly and regular intervals.
