  • [QUOTE=Awkya;370557]Manual states on page 6-20 chain should not be cleaned with solvents like diesel, petrol or kerosene, it also states don't use engine oil as this may also damage the 'o' rings.

Like I said before.............should Not be cleaned with solvents like diesel, petrol or kerosene

RanjithMN..........................I also use the same method

I'll go with what chain manufacturers advice as against what India Yamaha advice. After having read various articles, instructions, etc. on various sites (chain manufacturers, motorcycle manufacturers, forums, etc.), I concluded that India Yamaha has given faulty and misleading advice. I'll stick with kerosene or diesel.

either VALVOLINEs 20W50 Semi synth, which i had sucked or the SVC guys did a special job!
        anyway TOUCHWOOD!
You said that you had given Motul semi-synth to the SVC guys which they failed to pour in your engine.....right???

Then what about this Valvoline20W50 you had posted.....does that mean you used it????
If it was good then why bother changing to Motul????
Could you share the experience of valvoline semi-synth.....

+1 to that. I too have read the online DIY's and reviews.....
And follow the same kerosene and lube method....
Actually now i use a special oil which is damn viscous than the lube....it sticks to the chain for more than 1000km....i am very happy with it
        cheers..

are you sure its written not to use kerosene in the manual ? practically every other manufacturer recommends using kerosene .even the R1 ,busa and Ninja manuals recommend it and they also have o-ring chains

i was using Valovoline Semi-synth 20W50 and then asked them to put the MOTUL semi-synth 10W40 but they instead put YAMALUBE Mineral 20W40.

but like i said its strangely smooth now....esp. with my riding gear on,i dont feel a thing.

so what i meant was i might be finding the bike smooth now either because the VALAVOLINE sucked!or maybe coz of good service.

              • I am thinking abt cosmetic modification 2 my black fz 16. The idea is to paste a gold lining sticker on to the tank and also rim stickers. what would be the cost?
I have also seen customized fz s here. Is it economically worth to make the bike look like that (eg. the limited edition one.) . MY budget would be around 2-5k.

                  Hi all,

I purchased a new Iridium Spark Plug today from the Castrol Bike Zone, Shivajinagar, Pune. The cost was 550/- and the number of the plug is: CPR7EAIX-9.

Hey dude, I'm not saying your method is wrong, I was simply pointing out what's in the manual, and the method I'm using

I also have read various articles on various sites maybe the same one's
It's a long running debate. Karosene,diesal,WD40,specialist cleaner, household degreaser.
My suzuki sv650's owner manual recommended karosene for chain cleaning as did a few Honda's I've owned.
Honda NT650 mk2 didn't recommend it, CCM r30 didn't recommend it.............. what to do?
Owning the fz is my first encounter with Yamaha India and their svc so I can't comment on their information being correct or incorrect.
                    .peace

Hey, its the same that we were discussing about a few days ago. Will keep the thread updated by next week. I'm going for a long ride this weekend which will allow me to test it fully.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion and I had not assumed that you were saying that I was mistaken. Nor did I assume that of you. So the peace was never in danger!

As for India Yamaha, unless they've managed to procure some unique chain that has extremely delicate o-rings, when everybody else's are quite resistant, I'll continue to use kerosene. If the guidance in the manual is an attempt to improve the profits of their dealers, then I would be very disappointed by their attitude.
