My servicing is done at Kamala Yamaha, lower parel & they dont allow us to stay back & witness the service process.
We had a bad experience last time when my frnd demanded to stay back while our bikes were being serviced, especially coz we had to changed our oil to castrol power1. My frnd argued & finally he was allowed to only see the process when oil & oil filters were being changed.

Does such restrictions apply in all SVC??
The reason they don't allow you to see the process is because they don't do a damn thing properly.

They'll use old, broken equipment, sub-par lubricants, used engine oil, and might skip cleaning the air-filter altogether.
Let's assume that they used high-quality equipment, and premium-quality products for lubricating the pivots and joints, etc. But the fact is, most service centers wash the bike AFTER the service is done, so all that lube they used basically goes down the drain, and the bike is actually WORSE than it was before the service.

The solution is to get the bike serviced by an experienced mechanic after every company service for the first 3 or so services, and then forget about company SVCs completely, and go to a trusted mechanic for all future services.

But what about the warranty provided by the company? I hear you ask.
Well, the 'warranty' that most companies so proudly claim to provide are just an illusion. WARRANTY DOESN'T COVER A DAMN THING - read the 'Warranty' section of your bike's booklet if you don't believe me. Even if a malfunction is covered under the warranty (unlikely), most mechanics at SVCs have the IQ of a brick, and you'll have to turn to a REAL mechanic anyway.

        So why bother?

I kno there are no such rules barring us from seeing the entire process but the SVC guys argued that we cant stay back since they were running short of space in their workshop & we might be obstructing the mechanics in the process by asking them questions etc.. Anyways u stay in mumbai right so pls let me know your service experience next time, if it is worth changing the service station then I dont mind either.

          • @sava - if uve had any issues with service, take it up with yamaha. Im not being their advocate, but a few pages back also someone had issues, and i gave the number of yamaha corporate office. the issue was attended to immediately.

I have personally dealt with bad service, and complained to yamaha, the service engineer was more than kind to get the issue resolved, and actually went out of his way to get my bike serviced and delivered.

So we have no option but to get the bike serviced from a local mechanic?? I have no problems spending the extra money but the problem is that this is my 1st bike & I dont have any access to reliable mechanic around. My frnds have recommended me a few mechanics for some troubles I had with my bike which were unresolved my SVC but I dint find satisfactory results with most of the local mechanics too.

Ya i kno about the warranty factor.. But still it kinda feels safe if we are covered by the warranty & Yamaha guys dont have any excuses to prove our warranty being void

I know for sure my helmet saved me cos one of the only things I actually remember abt the fall is the loud 'Thup' sound as the helmet hit the ground. No more postponing any riding gear purchases!!

The bike was still running fine, my bro got it back home, now got to see kitna ka fatka hai Well, looking on the positive side, lotsa time now to plan my future rides I guess (and I also got my first wheelchair ride )

                      • Engine heating up after first service

                        Guys,

This is my first post in this thread, though i've been following it for quite sometime now. I gave my bike today for its first service, at Sri Motors, Chennai. I asked them not to change engine oil as I dont trust them, and got them to change it before I took it for delivery, in front of me . They said the engine oil filter has to be changed, and since its around 50 bucks I asked them to go ahead with it.

The experience as a whole was quite good, I had asked for a teflon coating and it looks really good! Its on par with what I used to get from TVS. Now to the bad part - After riding the bike on my way back from service, I noticed that the engine is heating a lot more than what it used to before service. Also it feels quite rough at 3k rpm itself . I dont think its normal. I am taking it to them tomorrow and get it checked. I checked engine oil levels, and it looks good. Could there be some problem with the oil filter ? I dont wanna wreck my bike, so if oil is suspect, is it safe to drive it to service tomorrow? The place is around 5 kms from my home.

I dunno about mumbai dude, but the service I went to in chennai had glass windows at the reception from where you could see your bike getting serviced. Also I was allowed to go in when they changed my engine oil and fitted the tank bra. Then after some time an executive came and told me to step out because lots of ppl standing outside waiting for their bikes wanted to come in too

I'v been to 3 yamaha SVC but there is hardly any scope for the bike owners to completely witness the service process due to space limitations.. The place where I service my bike is very conjusted & hence most of d small problems i have in my bike are taken care of by the mechanics there outside d workshop only. I dont blame them since one can clearly see the workshop is totally packed. Anyways I plan to visit a far away SVC which is very less crowded for my next free service
