    1. Change of engine oil to a nonhonda brand.
    2. Change of stock headlight to something practical for highway night driving and the new setup must have both the provision of High beam and low beam.

PS: Have already converted to dc setup. Now the light doesnt dim when clutch is pressed.
Go for gulf pride 4t synth 10w30. Don't use other graded oils for unicorn it is a must do precaution to prevent engine damage.
If coil rewinding is done you can use any 55/60w bulb from philips, osram etc... If not first rewind coil and use it. 35 w dc is much poor than 35 w ac.

      Thankyou for ur reply
Could not get hold of that oil in the local garage. instead used Mac 20w40t plus. Engine noise has reduced a bit
The Mechanic quoted Rs.1200 only to rewind the coil.

@sandeepcf: What steps should be taken to attach a auxillary light?

Any mechanic in Mumbai (Borivali to Goregoan) or near place who does Coil Rewinding with reasonable rate?

Don't mess with electricals such as rewinding etc.. unless you know a good auto electrician. Just get an aux lamp installed on the crash bar if you do not mind the looks. It's true the stock lighting of the unicorn is pathetic.. i wonder why. A friend changed the bulb to a phillips (do not know what the oem was) but still the lighting is bad. Maybe it needs to adjusted correctly.
Also the past couple of years the unicorns have been set to the leaner side and the 10w30 oil doesn't make the bike what it should be. A 10w40 or a 20w40 oil might help and shell ax5 is a very good oil and value for money. If you are familiar, try and richen the mixture by 1/4th turn and adjust idle accordingly. And also make sure the chain is adjusted corretly.

Bike is closing in on 12,000 KM. I have been using honda mineral oil from the SVC all this time. Engine is starting to sound a bit rough. oil was changed before 2500km.How long do you guys run on mineral oil ? The manual says top up every 3000km and replace every 6000, but most people have been stating to replace in the 2000-3000 km range.Planning to shift to fully synthetic. oil Price is not really a problem. Any one with any experience with regards to this? I hate having to change my oil every 2 or 3 months. Also any idea with regards to the oil grade to be used or which brand ? Thanks in advance guys.

Dont waste your money on synthetics. Get something like the shell ax5, or elf moto 4 , motul's 3100 ... you could use 10w30 or 10w40 no issues.. but do continue to maintain a drain interval of 2500-3000km, and check oil level every week.

Synthetics work a lot better than minerals. I'had used Castrol Power 1 Racing 10W40 (metal can) for 8000kms twice, Elf Tech 10w50 thrice, shell synthetic 10w40 twice, Castrol Power 1 Racing 10w50 for 3000kms(this was not upto the mark), Motul 300v 10w40 for 6000kms and they worked great for Unicorn.
Currently I am using Mobil Delvac 1300 15w40 for the past 15K kms with drain interval of 2.5K kms. When I transitioned to Minerals I couldn't take the harshness compared to synthetics.

Synthetics are definitely not a waste of money esp for Unicorn. Although Synthetics didn't make a world of difference in my friends Fazer when compared to Delvac 1300.
There is no harm in trying...

maybe no harm in trying.. but i wouldn't suggest a w50 on a uni.
my mantra.. start from somewhere in the middle wrt to price and move up or down in steps and find your comfortable spot. If a 500rs oil does the job well enough for 2500km, i think that would be much better than running a 1000rs oil for 5000km
the main point being following a strict oil change regime.. like i said my personal preference is a change every 2500km. Our tiny motorcycle engines work harder and have to make do with 1 to 1.5 litre of oil which i think would be more stressed than a say a car that gulps down 5 litres and can go a lot more km between oil changes.

I am also having 2nd thoughts on rewinding from an unknown garage. I dont mind Aux lights at all. Instead I'm looking forward to it. Is it just a bolt on kit? Which will be a better brand on aux light? I think Honda has 35w bulb

Yes, a bolt on with an extra switch.. brand i do not know (A friend had a local one installed on his platina, and it never gave a problem even after a cpl of years) Yes its a 35w bulb like most other bikes..but the beam throw & brightness seems lower (from what i have seen with a stock and a replacement Philips brand bulb of same rating). You could maybe try with Bosch's halogen bulb of the same rating.. from my experience i've noticed the bosch's to be a little better on the bikes ive used them on, and maybe it will help on the unicorn.

Best 10w30 for this particular engine is the veedol take off 4t 10w30 followed by gulf pride 4t plus/synth 10w30 also honda oem oil is good. As you are in 5k don't use synthetic oils now wait for atleast 8k.
