. Since, last few days am observing that she too runs kind of rough at higher than 4K rpm

After running in period of engine...what is the ideal range of rpm to drive in?

Are there any recommended rpm ranges to shift gears??
Is it ok if I drive upto 8k rpm?

I would say don't cross 6-7K rpm till u are done with your second service, that would be not going beyond 80kmph. This is done so that ur bike gives you consistent mileage and power.I guess you have done ur run-in process properly.
During second service mechanic looks into the engine for inspection if you do not have any issues with engine and mileage tell him not to meddle with the Carb settings.
As for the recommended rpm ranges practice will make u perfect just make sure you don't run the engine at higher rpms(5-6K) at lower gears initially.

Red Wings, I didn't do any great deal of changes its a 4month old bike, just changed the way I was riding. Replaced the oil(Honda recommended), tightened the screws/bolts and every time I start my bike in the morning I just run the engine at lower rpms for about 3-4kms not exceeding the speed of 40kmph (no sudden acceleration) later on I just start cruising at top gear.
Your bike has already done 15K so I can only advice you from my knowledge, try lubricating the chain or check for worn out. I believe you change the engine oil at regular intervals.

hey guys
my dreams of owning a R15/P220 came crashing down when my dad crashed his honda shine (he is fine.). now i'm looking to buy a bike for my dad. i reside in chennai.

i was looking for unicorn but waiting period is 5months. 2nd option was dazzler its the same unicorn but my dad found it too odd (me too lol). then the new yamaha SX isnt up for sale yet and also mileage is a big question for a yamaha. so i introduced my dad to the gs150r. my question is

my dad wants unicorn or whatever unicorn stands for. mileage (around 60kmpl @ 40kmph), smoothness, comfort, handling. which of these bikes (dazzler or gs150r) come close to the unicorn in these aspects? what are the cons of going for any of these other bikes?

my dad needs a bike so he cant wait the 5month period. we spoke to the dealers but they wouldnt in anyway reduce it.

Unicorn has min 3-4 months waiting period everywhere now and we can't do anything about it.

IMO Dazzler is better. Only concern is looks. Also ask dad to take a test ride. If he finds it comfortable, go for it.

Well...I believe GS 150 is a better bike..But if ur are one who looks for resale value..it is Honda all the way!!

Unicorn Mileage Problem

I bought honda unicorn on Dec 15, 2009. The bike was good initially, pretty impressive. It was smooth noiseless, it offered 52Kmpl. After first service I got 55. I was happy, but after second service it offered 33Kmpl, I complained to the service guys during third service, they said it might be because of dirt in the filter, I didn't understand that part. Now the bike offers 35Kmpl only. I even had plans of selling this bike and getting a new one and never give it for a service. I don't know what could be the problem any suggestion guys. Now all free services are over.

One more thing, during all services the bill amount was Rs.192. They change oil and 12mm drain washer, nothing more nothing less.

i would say go find out some good mechanic may be ur service center guys r not able to find out. or may be somebody has meddled with ur carb settings..
if still it does not rectify the problem complaint honda plp..

Guys I need a help. My friend owns a 20k kms old Unicorn. For the initial 1000 kms he was using it gently and it then returned a fuel efficiency of about 62kmpl. But then, he started abusing it badly. Now the bike is returning figures of only 40kmpl. Also all the parts are starting to vibrate badly. Especially the muffler guards. have given for service and the problem still persists.Now even when rid slowly or to say gently, the average figures go upto 45kmpl and nothing more. What can be done to get the steed in normal condition?

PS: He changes oil every 4k kms only.

Since you said that the bike was abused badly, I would go and check the carb settings, check for any worn out piston rings and check the valves. Also, check for the engine compression.

For vibrating parts, I would ask him to completely dismantle cosmetic parts and try to put back in place also check if there are any missing bolt/nuts.

To my knowledge, yes, muffler does vibrate a bit, however, should fix should it rattles bad.

If you could bring him along for the weekend meet shall discuss.

Thanks pal, yeah the Honda service center guys are dumb.
Got my vehicle serviced by a trusted mechanic. One more thing guys, Honda's headlight is pretty bad, the focusing and light intensity, how to get this fixed? Can you suggest some good components?
