I believe 06 model came with spoke wheels.

Stock tire size of Unicorn (Alloy Wheel)
Front: 2.75-18 42P
Rear: 100/90-18 M/C 56P

Make sure the tire (if you are upgrading. for example 110/90-18 from 100/90-18) does not scrap the swing arm.

Do I need replace plugs at 15K kms?

I see no signs of leakage from the front shocks, should I still replace them?

Early model Unicorns came with paper type filter.
Later they moved on to viscous filter claiming they need less maintenance. AFAIK, there is no harm in changing to a paper filter of old Unicorn if the dimensions are same.
It is good to replace spark plugs around 10k kms.
If you have a stiff ride and have run around 15-20k kms, it is better to change fork oil.

Honda Unicorn kickstart engine issues.

Hello folks,
I have a Honda Unicorn model year 2005. I am from Pune. Recently I experienced some sound from the engine. Confirmed it was due to bearing wear(con-rod & crankshaft).
The service guy also showed me some scratches on the piston and engine block. And asked me to get it changed.
I just want to know how much it will cost to change the engine block, bearings, valve tappet lapping & setting, engine oil change and labour.
Service guy told me rough estimate of 9 - 10k... Is this correct or I am getting duped??
Help me guys..

Mileage query

Hello all,

have a honda cb unicorn 150 2013 make... Just needed to know does the bike give low average on steep ghats... Actually had taken my unicorn to lonavala and from there to lohagad... Have observed that i got only an average of 34 kmpl

i am confused why such low average.. Normally get an average of 43 45 kmlp... Is there any problem with my bike.. I drove at a speed of around 50 to 60 kmph shifting in 4th and 5th gear..?

You might be getting that 43-45 in ~normal conditions, right? Then there wouldn't be any problem

On hills equivalent power required to move vehicle is increased by 20-30% , hence the lower mileage. Its like you walking on plain road and hill road. simple

The cost can be brought down to half if the work is done outside the service centre. The best way to do is buy the genuine spares from service centre and get the work down with a reliable mechanic in front of you.

Last time when i got this done it costed me close to 6 K.

So i got my bike serviced on Saturday. Sat and watched the mechanic do the service, took around 4 hours!

Apart from the usual things, I also got the oil changed. Everytime they service, they add Nulon additive to the oil. This time i followed the advice I had received here and asked them to not put Nulon.

Today while riding at ~60 kph, i experienced vibration in the footpegs. Also the gearshifts appear to not be as smooth as they used to be. Is this because i didn't put Nulon in my bike?

Also, is it normal for the two large nuts on the swingarms that hold the wheel together to get loose after some time? The mechanic tightened them too.

Cost in ASC will be always high compared to local mechanic, but you get some warranty on the engine overhaul.
Otherwise, as Abhi pointed out, you can consult with your local mechanic and purchase the spares on your own and then have the engine overhaul done by him.
Note that genuine cylinder/piston kit itself will cost you around 3.5k. There will be lots of parts that need to be changed when you open the engine (valves, timing chain, cam etc). Also, your crank needs to be repaired. Mechanic may insist on overhauling the clutch as well.
With all these works, cost will be around 8k-9k, even in local garage.

If you are going for local garage, ensure you are buying the spares on your own. Mechanics usually make money out of spares purchase

I recently helped in rebuild of uni's engine , me and mechanic went to spare shop . Although i was in sun badly ,but i saved HUGE money by doing so.
