I forgot to mention that I'm from Delhi and I've no experience of riding a 2 wheeler before. Please help me out.

Re: Honda Unicorn
Unicorn has a analog speedo and can be reset. Ensure if the 2009 model really has run only 30K kms. Better to purchase a bike from a known seller.Originally posted by Aniket Lamba View PostI'm going to get a used bike for learning purposes. My budget is 25K +-7K for the riding gear.I searched the internet and found 3 models of Honda Unicorn 150.the 2009,30K kms for 20,000 INR - https://www.bikewale.com/used/bikes-...unicorn-s69670 and https://www.bikewale.com/used/bikes-...unicorn-s72912 2012,43K kms for 26,000 INR.Should I go for them? My advice would be to stretch your budget a bit and get a new Bajaj CT100B. I believe you can get it for less than 40000 on the road and is a value for money bike.

My Chain was making a lot of khat-khat noise while accelerating. Found that the chain has extended to the maximum level.
I did some juggard in a professional way. Removed a couple of chain links with the bosh cutting tool i have. Changed the front Sprocket from 14T to 15T. The rear is stock.
Now 60KMPH comes at 4900RPM instead of usual 5100RPM.
I have run 1000 Kms with this setup. No issues so far. Mileage fluctuates between 50-55 KMPL.
This is the first time I am doing chain link removal and would not be recommending it.
Will be changing my entire chain-sprocket during the 61K kms service.2005 - Hercules MTB Thriller | 2018 - Apollo Evade

pickup drop in my honda unicorn 150 2009 model, After done the engine boring and valve adjustment
Hello, Please help me here,
Recently i bought a unicorn 150(2009 model) and engine service had done. After the service i was facing some sudden drop in the pickup while accelerating(feels like clutch is engaged) and the power is not delivered to the wheel. I just consulted with the same local mechanic who has done the service, he told me to ride for another 1000 kms. But it is quiet irritating me. Just tell me what could be the issue? Is it related clutch (As per the mechanic clutch plate has replaced)?
And i am getting low mileage.

Your title says you have performed a engine re-bore. If so the mechanic should help you out. Sudden drop while accelerating may be caused by many reasons. Take a second opinion. Replacing clutch will not solve the issue in all cases. I know a bike which has three clutch plate sets changed within 10000 Kms. Then the reason for pickup was found as clutch bell.Originally posted by jithuvijayan View PostHello, Please help me here,

Should I adjust my tappets? when my mechanic says your cam shaft is a little worn!
Hello fellow and senior bhpians,
I am Piyush and I am in a great deal of confusion right now lacking a trustworthy mechanic!
My bike 2007 Honda Unicorn has an engine noise sounds like tappet and a little rocker noise to me!When I asked my mechanic should I adjust my tappets as my bikes is too old and engine is making noise! He answered with a smile sir your cam shaft is totally worn you need to overhaul your engine, if you try to adjust the tappets the bike won't even start the next time!
I overhauled my engine at shop cheap aftermarket shop 10 months ago. I believe my cam may be worn a little but after the overhaul tappet were never adjusted so I think tappets are the real reason behind the humongous noise even if not the sole reason.
Help me to understand it clearly thanks!

Re: Honda Unicorn
I have unicorn 2013 model and it has run around 33k kms. My bike skits when i am making a turn.
My tyres are lost the grip though, are there any chances which other parts causing this issue?
Recently changed my Rear break shoe. As i cross checked with local mechanic, bike chain has room for an adjustments.. so..
If tyre need to be replaced with new suggest one. As of now i chose Ceat zoom xl 100/90R18.
Added to it, head light dome is broken in an minor accident and i haven't rode the bike for while. Planning to have customized double dome. Suggest pls.
Rust has formed in handbar and slicener. Spraying paint will suffice or it requires any special treatment?
Sorry for so many ask!Last edited by DbRacer; 12-17-2017, 09:06 PM.

Re: Honda Unicorn
Hi, did you change your tyre before in this 4years/33k kms. If not you should do it. Go for softer compound tyres, the tyre life is less but have a better grip.Originally posted by DbRacer View PostI have unicorn 2013 model and it has run around 33k kms. My bike skits when i am making a turn.

Do you brake while taking a turn. Golden rule is complete your braking before you enter the corner.
Adjusting the chain slack is very important because you have better pickup and increases gear box life as you ride on correct gear.
Did not understand about headlight,a little more explanation please if possible.

No, i haven't changed the tyres yet. I have been tightening the chain on regular basis and i don't apply break while making a turn.Originally posted by thousifkhan24 View PostHi, did you change your tyre before in this 4years/33k kms. My headlight dome is broken. Planning to replace with customised dome. Any recommendation would help.
So i have been using castrol engine oil (20w40). Any other recommendation on oil?

Re: Honda Unicorn
Please change your tyres as soon as possible. The rubber parts tend to harden with age and provide less grip even though the threads in them appear fine.Originally posted by DbRacer View PostNo, i haven't changed the tyres yet. I don't own a unicorn so don't know about the particular engine oil.my father uses elf semi synthetic oil of same grade on his shine.he says that it is smoother with it.
I use shell engine oil on my Gixxer. I haven't come across any modified headlight domes for unicorn yet. Personally I feel it is best looking part on an unicorn with it's broad shape.

Re: Honda Unicorn
The rear tire on my Unicorn has completed 60K kms and into the ninth year. Still has good threat depth left. I believe 33K is very early for tire change. These MRF zappers are hard compound tires which usually last long but a little compromise on grip. Not a deal breaker.Originally posted by DbRacer View PostI have unicorn 2013 model and it has run around 33k kms. My bike skits when i am making a turn.

The Front MRF which came with my Unicorn has completed 70K kms (48K in Unicorn and rest in a family's Splendor) and can still go for some 5000 Kms.
Yes, As someone mentioned above, rubber becomes very hard after 4-5 years.
Customized double dome looks good but it is useless. My friend has one and it can only signal others that there is a vehicle coming by. Also it requires rework of many items costing money. Better stick to stock.

I have been using HP Racer4 Synth 10W30 for last 3 oil changes. Never felt any oil better in Unicorn that this one.Originally posted by DbRacer View PostNo, i haven't changed the tyres yet. I have been tightening the chain on regular basis and i don't apply break while making a turn.

XXw30 will be thin than XXw40 in engine operating temperatures. So as per Honda's recommendations, better stick with 10W30.
I am happy to say that after using this oil, I am able to cruise at 6000 RPMs & 5th gear without any vibrations. Also I am getting 57-58 KMPL constantly (Average for last 40 litres of Petrol). I am fueling from a BP bunk owned by TVS or at Reliance at any cost.Last edited by BlackPanther; 12-23-2017, 10:00 PM.2005 - Hercules MTB Thriller | 2018 - Apollo Evade

Whining sound while driving from Honda Unicorn
Hi,
I don't know this problem has been discussed here before, I did some search before posting but couldn't find anything relevant so posting one.
My Honda CB Unicorn 150(2009 Model) gives a whining sound while riding, but never gives the same sound when bike is in neutral. When the bike is in neutral, how much hard I rev the engine, I can't here the noise. But while riding after crossing 3000 rpm in any gear it gives a whining sound. I can here the same noise in other old unicorns as well(new unicorn never gives that sound).
When I checked with local mechanics, one guy said that sound is coming from clutch plate, it needs to be replaced. Another guy said, it coming from the meter, if we service the meter whining sound will be gone.
Any thought on this guys. Thanks in advance
