    55500 KMS update:

Lost compression one fine day and found valves to be an issue. 48000 valve and re-bore was not done properly as per mechanic. He even opened things before me and showed few rubber washers missing which led to valve failure. The other reason he says that the valves were never changed at 48000 KM repair work.

So I had to spend another 5000 RS for the rebore work.

Last time instead of reboring for stock +.50, my original bore was rebored for +0.75 which cannot be rebored again.
It led me to procure a new second had bore from a 2007/2008 model scraped Unicorn and rebore it to stock +0.25 size.

After 500 KM running-in, changed engine oil to BP Synth 10W30 which i purchased online for Rs.380

600 KMS completed and I am getting a good fuel efficiency of 55KMPL (@45-50KMPH) when checked with 12 liters of petrol. The mechanic confirmed this to last for another 50000 KMS if I drive it the way I have been driving it all these years.

I have observed at around 69000 kms that I need to maintain the engine at a higher rpm than before to attain particular speeds than earlier. He suggested the replacement of cylinder kit. Is it so early for the cylinder kit to fail in a honda unicorn? What could have gone wrong? Possible solutions? Is it better to follow what he told and replace the cylinder kit? Please help.

I think the bore has served its life. You can re-bore the same cylinder to stock +0.25 size. Should also check if the valves & valves guides are good.
Valve/Head lathe work + Spares + labour will cost less than 5000Rs.

BUT ensure the person who performs the repair work is trustworthy and is capable.
My Bike was rebored at 37000 & 48000 KMs by a trustworthy neighbor who did a incomplete work.

FYI. The new Cylinder Kit (With piston) costs 4100 Rs. This is excluding the Valve/head work or spares.

OffTopic: The 220CC Avenger Cylinder kit is priced at only 1900 where as our Unicorns 150CC cylinder kit is priced at 4100

Are the vibrations getting vanished after crossing 50 ? If so, i think it is normal. Even mine does that around 45-50KM mark. The best speed to cruise in Unicorn is 60KMPH.

Must be an issue with the clutch plates.

    • Honda cb unicorn [ gear problem]

Model : HONDA CB UNICORN /150 CC
      RUN : 15000 KM
      YEAR of MFG : 2013

Problem arise recent that top gear [ i.e 3/4 th]of the bike's accelerator behaves as it is on 2nd or 1 st gear, No smooth pick up/acceleration .Its like holding the bike to backwards or its jammed the chianwheel, RPM jumps to 8000 to 9000 . At full acceleration bike top speed near about 60/65 [ tested on a Aero field ] At first I though it was clutch problem or air filter so i changed both .but problem remains.

      Need help .

        • Battery/Headlamp Upgrade

          Hello all,

I have recently acquired a 2006 Honda Unicorn CBF150 (kick-start only). And though it was in a very poor condition, I'm getting it back into shape step-by-step for recreational purposes(touring and stuff..).

This vehicle is not at all stock, at least not from the looks of it, and is mounted with pulsar classic round headlamp, which i kinda like on it.

Now focus is on the electrics, by which I mostly mean the inadequate headlamp.

I've decided to turn the Headlamp to DC and purchased a new 5Ah battery against the prescribed stock 2.5Ah. The battery sits perfectly in its new custom-made stay and is working like a charm.

However, since its been a while and now I can spare some money and time to move things ahead, before making the headlamp direct DC I want to ensure adequate charging of the battery. Though there a lot of posts and threads on the same topic but I still have more than a few doubts about the least invasive(want to avoid alternator coil rewinding) and most cost effective way to achieve this.

Considering that in Unicorn only head lamp and tail lamp are on AC (apart from ignition of-course), if someone could help me with the following queries:

          1. If the headlight is totally operating on DC (35/35W lamp), is there a possibility of installing a RR unit which can redirect that unused AC for battery charging?

          2. Are there low power led replacements available for other lights used in the bike for indicators, tail lamp etc. so that overall load on the battery can be reduced in favor of a high power head lamp (60/60W) after redirecting all unused AC for battery charging?

          3. What is the maximum capacity of battery that can be used so that the battery doesn't deep discharge?

          4. Is it possible to install an 35/35W HID without the need of a coil rewind or is it just not possible in a Unicorn?

          5. Is LED head lamp preferable to everything else?

Some of the ideas may seem over-ambitious but I feel it is possible. All inputs are appreciated!

P.S : This is my first post, try n go easy!

You need to rewind the coil and use ape RR unit for proper charging of battery. The current setup on your bike doesn't seems like reliable. You can get replacement leds for indicators and number plate lamps. HIDs can be used but i recommend a coil rewinding + ape RR unit first
Off the BOTTLE & On the THROTTLE

So there is no alternative except the coil rewinding + ape RR..?

Check for CDI unit as well, improper firing can lead to increase in rpm but not speed

Can someone please tell if there is any difference in the generator output of a kick-start and an electric-start Unicorn..?

The reason I'm asking, if they are same spec, how come the stock bike can handle a bigger capacity battery adequately..? And maybe, just maybe, if only the RR is different..I can just go for that instead of other hassles!

Please help..after so much research my head is spinning!

Few things i want to ask-
1.what should be the speed limit till first
500 kms? I am keeping it under 60 kmph
2.on traffic stops i shift to first gear & release the clutch to kill the engine,is that good or bad?

                            • Need help with touring modifications on a 2011 Honda Unicorn 150

Hello all. I have recently bought a Honda Unicorn from year 2011 which has clocked 42K+ kms and has got a perfect engine (as far as I can understand). I am planning to do the rides ranging from 58 km to 300 km in a day. I need to do some modifications for converting the motorcycle to a touring machine. I am not looking for cosmetic or performance modifications.

Below are the modifications I am thinking about (but not sure how to go about them)

                              1. Seating - I love the seating on a Unicorn 150. How do I make it better? I have decided on spacers for my stock handle bar to make it a little high. Is there anything I could do with the seat to make it more comfortable?

                              2. Luggage - I am planning on using 3 of my back packs to carry all my gear and cloths since these would be all small rides. My question is, how much can I carry in KGs just in case of a bigger plan? Can I install metal racks on this bike and carry more weight? How much weight can a 150 cc bike carry?

                              3. Is a bigger wind screen advisable?

                              That's all.

I am 39, live in Nagpur, planning to go to all the jungle locations to start with in next one year. I am 5'11 and 92 KGs. I have done 2000 KM rides in past on 350 cc bullets and not new to riding. I am sure I won't face extreme terrain.

Am I good to go? What else can you suggest?

                              Thanks in Advance.
