Had an extended test ride of the GT650R. After almost 4 years, I am getting on to a super bike (an accident put me away from biking world). My experience is from my Buell riding days. I had initially booked CBR250 and then cancelled when I realized GT650R and Ninja are coming to India. With me back to India was at Eswari motors,Adyar, Chennai to check the GT650R. Following are my quick observations, need input from the owners so I can decide on the purchase

    Cons:
    1. The finish and the quality of plastics leaves a lot to be desired on 5 lakhs plus bike
    2. The electrical (protruding connectors seen by naked eye) and the lethargic way in which the bike has been assembled left a bad taste in my mouth. I can understand this is not a CBU but still Garware needs to get its socks up
    3. The technical knowledge of the service engineer who was supposedly trained by Hysoung was lets says below average. Even simple questions like torque or EFI settings was answered by a blank stare. When I asked him why not use semi sythetic for first 5k run-in and do a freq oil change, he wasn't able to substantiate the logic. He only kept saying Hysoung told us so!!! (and may be I make money @ 1200rs/ lit of synthetic oil!)
    4. The test bike gears were pathetic to say the least, I had to literally fight to get the gears changed!!!!!!!!!! I am assuming this eases out. Need input on this please, this is a major turn off for me.
    5. I felt the EFI was working in a sporadic manner below 5-6k Zone. I felt as if the bike was switching on and off, as if fuel supply was cut off and switched on. Did not find it free like my Buell or the Honda
    6. Vibration was far more than my previous bikes, does this settle with time? Any aftermarket addons you guys came across?
    7. None of my questions on spare part pricing was answered, they kept saying we are yet to receive the pricing list!!! When asked about what will be the expected maintenance cost, they said fairing is around 60k etc!!! I told them it aint maintenance cost, I am talking about routine maintenance like clutch plates, brake shoes, cables etc...no answer

    Pros:
    1. The styling looks really awesome except for the freaking indicators which seems to have been taken from a Sunny! They should have integrated it in the fairing
    2. The grunt of the V-Twin was hard, unfinished, and rowdish if I may say so, kind of liked it better than the more refined bike more like my RD350
    3. Color choices are excellent, Ninja should learn from this, not everyone loves green!

Whats with the complimentary stuff Garware is giving? I felt insulted when he told me we will get a Vega offroading type helmet, some stupid googles as starter kits!!! Are they serious? How do they expect a rider, riding a GT650R with that stupid offroading helmet? I felt cheap and insulted by this Garware indian mentality!!! They could have just given a good t-shirt and a cap and be done with it!!!!

All in all, I have a mixed feeling about this bike, though I loved the bike, the technical incompetency packed with Garware's amatuer approach is making me think "Wait, watch, and then decide!!!"

    Sorry for the long post...
    bro,

And BTW about your question on the front no plate, in my Fazer i have removed the no plate and put a sticker but cops caught me saying its not legal and I had to pay fine for it. Better get the dedicated no plate I guess.
      Kashyap,

You better wait till they open showroom in Bangalore..... You need to pay 50k down payment and the 70% of the Ex-showroom price you get it as a loan from HDFC bank. Its good to check with the showroom guys regarding the loan tie ups... Right now you can book in Chennai... its lil expensive compared to B'lore...

        MADCATR,

Here are my inputs about the GT650R...

        Cons:
        1) Yes, the bike is over priced for the plastic they have used.. I'm not very happy with the finishing.
        2) Initial gear shifting is really pathetic.. it makes a weird noise "Dhud" for the first gear and the rest all were almost smooth.. but not like the i4's.
        3) EFI works fine in a long run but in city traffic and slow revs it stops suddenly with the hick ups.
        4) Since it is V-twin we can expect lots of vibrations but you wont feel it while moving.
        5) Engine gets heated up in traffic signal, so need to turn off the engine.
        6) the complimentary stuffs they r giving is off cheap quality... thats the worst part.

        Pros:
        1) It has the perfect seating position with adjustable handle and foot rest.
        2) Looks eye catchy with the better color combination.
        3) Since they are new they are making the best in customer satisfaction.
        4) Have good servicing but need to wait till they come and fix it.
        5) Exhaust is amazing.. u will start loving it.
        6) It suits well in both city and highway with good grip and control on dry roads.. not that great on wet surface.

        • Sriki: Nope, I was riding it in Adyar.

Patty: Thanks for the summary. Guess you seem to have similar observation of the GT650. Since you already own one, whats your impression? does the clutch become better after use? Any adjustment on EFI for city riding? hows the service?

Clutch you can get it adjusted.... Not sure about the EFI, even it happens for me too and have to keep the rev up every time when it slows down.
Service is pretty good as they are concerned about the customer service... the engine oil started leaking due to faulty O-ring and they have sent the technician from Pune and also they will assist you if needed....

Hello bro.During the 1st service of the bike which is done after 1000kms,they do change the oil to a semi synthetic one.The costing is Rs 1,156 for 3.2Ltrs of ELF brand. You can also bring in your own engine oil brand if required.

                • Got one on 16th AUg

Well, finally after a long long wait, I got the Red-black combo delivered at my home in bangalore. The looks... mmmm, need not to say anything, its just jaw dropping gorgeous... I took it to NICE road to rev it a bit ... didnt take it more than 110kmph, the sound is amazing... everyone on the road tends to go gazing when the bike passes by... the minute you stand at a red light, people just keep pouring questions. the ride is pretty good, seating is amazing... pickup is vrooomm... it goes to 80 in like blink of an eye... Some things negative though, the speedo has some sound coming which I have seen in other posts that is some problem which other buyers faced as well and it is rectified in the service. The idle RPM is less and bike stops every now n then if u dont concentrate in city rides. But on roads like NICE road, it drives like a dream...

all in all, absolutely impressed, thank god I didnt go for Ninja...

Looking awesome bro, but i still believe all RED is best

BDW, anybody felt this thing that rear tyre wobbles on braking specially at high speed like 100 or on turns, or is it me who is getting this issue. I have asked the same thing before too, but still need confirmation.

Also i have got my LS2..its so perfect one. Uploading some pics here. Didn't get a model with red and black combo, so all black n grey is there.
