  • All the bike heats up. Some more. Some less.

In the context you have referred upon, you feel more heat on the CBR\GT because they have artifical cooling. When the engine heats up beyond a range the radiator kicks in and cools the liquid that covers the block. The radiator blows the air to cool the liquid and this passive air hits you.

The Pulsar has a oil cooler that works on a similar logic though.

The Apache has a Air cooled engine, so there is no fan and the wind blast cools it.

The benefit of having a Liquid Cooled Engine is that you can push the engine to higher rev ranges (both as a rider, and as a manufacturer)

    Hope it answers your query

A new engine has a very high tolerance in parts and hence mechanical friction is high. As the engine is used (run in) the internals are smoothened out and the friction reduces.

    • Love @ First sight...

It was an early Sunday morning for me, haven't been able to sleep much lately, the anxiety was keeping me up well into the night. Waking up early in morning was never my forte, especially on weekends. I knew the reason for all this sleepless and anxiety. It was because of the GT650R...
It had already been well over 3 weeks since i booked the bike and it is nearly delivery time. I knew that i was going to get that call from the dealer anytime now.

Around 11am into the day, was sitting around not doing much and that's when the phone rang. I saw the dealer's name on the display and knew what it meant. I was told "Sir, your bike is here". I was happy to hear that and wanted to look at the bike ASAP! Grabbed my helmet, jacket and keys,
everything else for the next 20 mins was a blur, i may have broken a couple of traffic rules. But smiled all the way, till i got to the dealership.

As soon as i entered the showroom, there she was - Completely covered in red from top to bottom. The first sight i had was breathtaking, never knew that the full red GT650R had so much of presence, until i saw my bike for the first time.

This was the first view i had at my bike.

It was Love at first sight... yet again. My GF was calling me at that time, i switched off the phone. I wanted to spend more time with my new found love.

The Bridgestone 160 section rears were accenting the rather large exhaust quite nicely. Somehow, everything was looking quite different compared to the test bike. Somewhat more alluring and in a way, more attractive.

Got around to the other side and what was evident immediately was how bulky the fuel-tank was.

Just stood there for a few minutes to let the beauty sink in.
The dealer was saying something about paperwork and registration but
i was only hearing, not listening. He got the message and went to get me the keys.

This gave me enough and more time to look around. Most of the covers were still in place and i was unwrapping the bike happily like a kid with its birthday gift.

Meanwhile, the dealer was back with the keys - For the first time i saddled up on my GT650R. The smile was now getting larger than ever. Looked at the console and it was quite plain initially, turned in the key and there was the humming sound of self check and it was alive.

Unmistakably, i was thoroughly happy with the colour choice, it was better than what i had hoped for and clearly made the day for a ducati999R fanboy.

Registration, etc is going to keep it away from me till wednesday. If all goes per schedule, will be taking delivery on Wednesday!

Yeah, I had left the showroom around 11.45 once i was done ogling at it, the black GT's (Test-ride) front disk lever is broken and the bike sort of wobbles a bit since someone dropped it during a test ride. Take care - if you happen to take it for a ride.

                      • @Brat: you are correct about the Front brake lever...unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to test ride as that is only restricted to the buyers ...I felt the clutch cable is tight...Hope you had a trial run on the black one before, just check that on urs, too...for me the surprise was the front disc...the lever is little hard to pull, but with a small tap it's a hard brake itself...probably, I'm used to with my bike...so suggestion is, not to apply in slow speed say < 25KMPH, use the rear only, otherwise the fork will dive deep suddenly
I couldn't understand the fitting of air filter in it...is it not easily accessible/removable from outside?

Yes, i did have a run on the black GT earlier. I had noticed the heavy clutch during this time, it is common for a new bike to be setup this way. After the 1000km service, they will reduce the tension and this wont be an issue.

You would not notice the front brake lever being hard to pull while you are riding it, i had forgotten all about it and was enjoying the grunt from the exhaust note.

The bike never takes a sudden deep dive even when fidgeting with the front brakes and it is reasonably well-balanced, was trying this on low speeds (<80k) though and i felt that response was above average. If you want a harder setting, the front forks can be adjusted for both damping as well as compression. There's an Air Cleaner located right below the fuel tank. Housed in this is an Air Cleaner Element. The fuel-tank and 6 other supporting bolts have to be removed before you can get to the Element for cleaning or replacement. It is not removable from outside.

                            • @melroyal: How much is the Total Quartz engine oil?
Another option in semi-synthetic is TVS Tru4 10w40.
Check the Engine Oils thread for more info.
I say, if you get a Motul SS in the same grade, go for it.
