  • Planning to book the 650r on friday.
I read quite a few pages of this thread but didnt see the answer to a big question.
How does it handle the speedbreakers in our country. Does it scrape / has to be taken diagonally ?

They didnt have a test ride today, so delayed the booking. From what I understand the service stations are giving much better customer service after the DSK takeover ?
Also can someone direct me to the aftermarket parts available for this bike

well congratulations on your yet to be purchased bike

i got GT250R 5 days back , which is also almost same dimension and size, and so far i have scraped only once on speed breakers , that too if any big guy sitting on back seat and now crossing speed breakers like cars [slight diagonal], in overall only very few SB's which are very high and pointy will scrap belly of bike.

service i heard is good, and yet to give bike for 1st service , may be next month

      • I've been having a horrible experience with Sathya Mithra motors ever since I booked the bike. Booked last friday, she said the bike would be reaching Bangalore on Monday and I could take delivery on Wednesday. I had applied for a loan from Tata Capital, when they didnt call for verification by Tuesday, called SM motors, they said someone should be doing it soon. Next day i went to the showroom and found out that the application for hadnt even been sent and someone would collect it later ! Got a call for verification yesterday and again no update.

How did it go for other guys who bought the bike from Bangalore.

well service heard its good, i too faced similar issues with sales, they are very lazy , if you want your work to be done .. you need to bug them... i use to call them almost everyday .. till i get the bike... try it will work. apart from that i found it much better than yamaha or honda showroom.

                  • Completed 1 year with my GT

Time flies and how, its been a year since the GT entered my life and i have had tons of fun on it. Small weekend dashes, inter city runs, the 1100 kms trip to himachal and what not. I remember everything, after driving cars for a week, sitting aboard a sportsbike on weekend is an all together different experience, the torque, the thrust, the acceleration is yummy, i can only imagine what fun the guys with inline 4's have

Was only able to do 5500 kms this year, thanks to the scorching delhi heat and my busy schedule, also got a VW Vento recently and the spotlight moved on it wherein i hardly got any time to ride. The winters are here and i hope to clock some more miles or maybe a quick dash to the hills as that is what the GT loves.

The expenses so far have been :

                    1. Fuel expenses - delivers around 18-21 km/l on how you ride, never got below 18 and the figure has been constant around this mark.

                    2. 1st service costed 3300, 2nd service costed 5600, got the rear brake pads changed last week for 1300 incl labour (earlier it used to be 2500-2600, now DSK has either brought in something else or slashed the prices). Its been easy on the pocket.

                    3. Unfortunately missed the 2 scheduled services as i was out of city and busy, so my 1 year warranty is now gone. The 2nd service happened at 2600 kms and i have run only 3000 kms after that so nothing to worry on that aspect, bike is running on fully synthetic Motul oil.

Nothing much to report really, havent faced any serious issue or niggle which demanded a visit to the workshop, going smooth so far.

I had an issue last week, would explain and request suggestions if it could be anything serious.

I didnt ride the bike for more than a month, it started fine on the first crank (took a little longer thats it), ran fine but after warming up significantly (temp touched 4 bars), i parked the bike home and noticed that the bike was misfiring, the idling wasnt smooth as before, after a minute of idling the bike shut down on its own while the radiator fans kept running.

Now i tried to start but the bike didnt, the display dimmed out and the crank was unable to start. The moment the radiator fans stopped, it started again normally.

After 5 minutes i did the whole thing again and got similar results, bike shut down on its own.

This thing is giving me jitters from past few weeks, hesitatingly i took the bike for a weekend ride and did 150 kms in one shot but everything now was normal. What i have been experiencing is that after warming up, around the 2000-3000 rpm mark, the bike misfires maybe once in 8-10 kms in 2nd or 3rd gear and i am now worried about the bike shutting down in traffic and leaving me stranded - what could be the issue?

                    1. Battery - ? Its only a year old, could it be that the battery wasnt charged as i didnt ride it for more than a month? It only happens when radiator fans kick in. Could it be the famous Hyosung rectifier/regulator issue?
Would they change it now since my bike is out of warranty, i can claim this was a defect in earlier lots.

                    2. Service due - could it be dirty or clogged air filter? The bike has done only 3000 kms since last air filter cleaning?

                    3. Bad fuel - i had refuelled from a not known/ever used petrol pump prior to this fiasco. But why misfires only when hot

                    Confused.

A pic of my beauty after a cleaning and polishing session.

hmm weren't you a pilot as well.. check the spark plugs, their color should tell you if the mixture is lean (being an FI if this happens some sensor could have broken down ? not sure). Fuel is also know factor that causes misfiring especially when they adulterate it. I had the exact same problem on my Z250 when I mixed fuel from multiple pumps and 1 of them was bad. Had to drain all the fuel (took out tank) and bike went back to normal.

                      Other reasons for misfiring
                      1) spark plugs
                      2) incorrect air/fuel mixture (multiple reasons for this)
                      3) negative pressure in tank (old bikes had this problem, try opening tank and running bike to check)
                      4) coil
                      5) valve timing
                      6) petrol + water mix in tank
                      7) air filter blocked

I am Barkha and currently have a CBR250 which i share with my partner.I am happy with the bike and its been around 11 months now with us,and we are thinking to upgrade to GT650R/N. Not looking at N650...too buly in front ,,, narrow in the rear....looks like a green tree frog...sorry no offence...my partner seem to like it...green...ewwww.Ok back to topic. GT650 looks good.thinking of Red..he wants black with red cats-eye strips on the wheels.but thats not the problem either. No not even money...its the fight between clip-ons and straight handle bars(GT650R or N. I had a thunder bird TBCI and now the CBR. so clip-ons is not a problem.so guys help me out. (1)clip-ons or straight handle? bike will only be used in weekends/rides and not for daily commute.roads are good here with very less potholes and speed-brakers are huge in length and not in height so bike wont scrape...CBR never did. (2) Nearest Dealer si 600 odd Kms away.service will be a big headache.(not for me as my partner will have to take it to service...i am allowed some perks...am i not?) . i have read in the GTN forum that spares are hard to come by..is it true? is there any doorstep srevice fecility given by DSK? (3)Never faced any heat problem with the CBR , in about a year the radiator fan has come-up only twice.read in the GTR forum that bikes gets heated up quickly,i Might take the bike to beach (shorts, tees and helmet)(do u recommend or ill have my legs cooked?.....please help me,i am confused on everything even with my own questions. my partner sent a mail to DSK ..no reply till now. Hi Barkha, you might want to keep an eye here also for more details:

As a GT650n owner I would say you just wait for some more bikes to launch (Read CBR500R, Duke390). The biking scene is just getting more and more exciting.
Now if you've decided for Hyosung I would suggest you to go for the Naked/Straight handle bar version. It generates less heat and is absolutely tolerable. The riding position is very comfortable. The R version is extremely aggressive and good for track use IMO. For tourers 'N' is more suitable.
Coming to the parts availability minor parts are available although for major parts you may have to wait from 1 week to 1 month. Still it's better than Kawasaki who's parts are not at all available...not even the brake shoes. If you have the mollah to afford N650 I'll suggest you to go for it for Guranteed long time ownership pleasure. May be some fellow riders will not like this statement but I'm just trying to be honest. And yeah there is an effective Hyosung Road Side Assistance center toll free. First 100kms of towing is free in case of bike fault.
