Reporting a problem:
Rode my bike after a good 15days later, last night. There is alot of noise from the chain. My bike was serviced 16days back and the slack and lubing adequately corrected. The main area of concern is from the chain laced around the front sprockets (or atlesst where I assume they are, given the fairing covers it all).
Post my accident in April last year, I've never been satisfied with the pot-hole eating capability of my bike. Yes, the forks did bend and needed correction. Despite the best effort there has been no much improvement in the suspension. And no, no coneset or fork(s) was changed.
P.S.: When I joined the forum, today's moderators were those days Seniors. I used to ask noob questions too. And this being xBhp I always got my answers. Some were in a harsh tone. Some much harsher. It pissed me off bad. So I went about defending my noobness with lousy explanations in manners too rude to befit the stature of those Seniors. What happened eventually? They stopped replying to not just my questions but in any sub forums I was seen replying. (Its all there even now. xTracker.) So I met with this accident and I uplaoded the photos in this thread. Appraently, the same Seniors came up giving in condolences. And I apologized to all of them and in particular to this mathematical genius who today is a Mod. He then explained to me how he went through the same thing when he was a newbie and that as unapparent as it may be, the rudeness is given gratis to ensure xBhp's standards of sharing quality content doesn't lose out to rudimentary queries from a bunch of noobs who never learnt to Google.
Ofcourse, despite the best efforts from all the top Seniors (Abhimanyu, included) and the deluge of (noobs for) new-comers, the most knowledgeable members either left or chose to stay mum and eventually this forum lost its sheen. So this goes out to everyone, please ask questions which either Google or your SVC team doesn't have an answer to. Also if possible try to clean the chain either with WD40 or diesel. It keeps up the life of chain and sprocket.
And you must be already knowing how to keep the chain lubed in rainy season. So enjoy

How much has your chain stretched? Meaning which notch number is being used to adjust the chain? The thing is that chain stretching in not at a liner rate. Once the chain has stretched to a certain limit, then its all down hill from that point. If you notice while the chain is new, the rate of adjustment would have been some where around 2,500 to 3,000 kms. I put in a new chain at 19,000 kms and now it is at 23,000 kms, I have not had to adjust the chain. However, once you reach say 9,000 kms, you will need to start adjusting more frequently like every 1,000 to 1,200 kms. A chain's wear and tear depends not only on the lubing of the chain, but also on how much stress it is put up to i.e. sudden acceleration, jerky starts, high speeds. It is also dependent on the state of condition the sprockets. As the sprockets wear, the chain starts wearing out at a proportional rate which in turn leads to further wearing of the sprockets.Originally posted by ABikerAtHeart View PostReporting a problem:

As far as your forks are concerned; I do remember telling you that unless the inner tubes are straightened with a jig and hydraulic press you are not going to get them 100% true. That still holds true even today.
You have 2 choices if you want to see daylight to this trouble, first and the most obvious, replace the inner tubes and the second option is the jig and hydraulic press.Only a biker knows why a dog sticks his head out of a car window.

Even am not satisfied with the absorbing capacity of front forks after my crash. But I got a new fork (full set including inner tubes). What is the problem??? Conesets??? ^^^ sorry, I am not getting what you are trying to say. From what I understand, you seem to have replaced one fork. Is that right? And you are not satisfied with front end's performance, right? If that is so let me ask couple of question before I try to answer your query. 1. Why was the fork replaced? 2. When the fork was replace, was the other fork's oil changed?Only a biker knows why a dog sticks his head out of a car window.

Yes am not satisfied when I go over potholes. Cant explain how it feels,but not comfortable. *I replaced both my front forks [ full set,including outer tube (black one),innertube(steel one) and a black one which holds both forks together(not coneset) and whatever fork contains]
* it was replaced since I crashed head on with scooty (women driver
) and the forks bent inwards which was un repairable.
Even front rim is new and it happend 3 months back.
*this is the reason I asked does forks come assembled or they assemble at SVC. If in SVC, they would have replaced fork oil during that
So what is the problem??? Coneset or inaccurate fork oil level.

If the complete fork unit was changed then it would have come as a assembled unit from the factory. Check your invoice to see if its listed as a unit or as different parts of the fork. There is not much that can be done with forks as they are non adjustable. The only thing that you can play around with is the viscosity of oil and its level to modify the dampening and rebound rates (unless you can source springs with different rates).
If you have doubts about the steering cone, check it for any play that might be present. If there is play, you may need to tighten the cone set or replace it depending on the condition of the cone set.

I live just 300km away and could make it to anywhere in Mumbai on any of the bank holidays coming up this month (August 15th?)
P.S.: Despite the long period of ownership, my ODO reads on 3300km, all which have been clocked on the highways. Blame my 12hours x 7 days a week work schedule.

^^^ 1) check the chain adjuster plates that are paced on either side of the swing arm and are mounted on the rear axle.
2) If you see the adjuster plates, they will have numbers marked on it.
3) Find the number nearest to the grove in the chain adjuster that is used to adjust the chain.
4) Now count the number of groves from the number to the grove used to the adjust the chain. For example if the nearest number is 2 and the number of groves between 2 and the grove used to adjust the chain is 3, then the value that you should read is as 2.3.
5) Now ensure that value you read on both sides is equal. If not, then there is a misalignment and this will lead abnormal chain ware, vibrations, and notchy gear shifts, etc.
I can always take a look at your bike. It's the least that I can do if you are going to travel so far. Only thing is that in the second half of this month I will be traveling and not be present in Mumbai. But are really sure you want to travel so far just for me to take a look at your bike?

a potentially massive problem - is there supposed to be a small hole in the bottom face of the exhaust pipe somewhere in the region below the right foot peg ?
i am finding it hard to believe a hole is supposed to be there as a manufacturing design. i just discovered it today after i saw a very little bit of leaked petrol (in a pattern suggesting being sprayed from that hole) on the ground in the spot right below the hole...and the petrol's leaking seemingly only when i start the bike (so i am assuming it's a bit of accumulated petrol (vapour that later on condensed?) left in the exhaust pipe and the exhaust air spraying it off the hole just as the bike starts), and that too not everytime i started the bike to check for its occurence...and then it leaked a bit again just as i finally parked it for the day..god knows if it's leaking a drop or two on the road every now and again while on the run.
i am going for my first service tomorrow anyway, and will ask them and also check the other R15s kept there if any..but this seems to be a very troubling issue that will prevent me from sleeping peacefully today, unless it's there in you guys' and every other R15s by default as well..Last edited by aditya_YZF-R15; 08-02-2013, 04:07 AM.

Dont be so tensed its normal every r15 exhaust has a small opening to siphon out the water in case it manages to seep into the exhaust so no problems there and about the petrol there is no way petrol can stay and drip from the exhaust it might be water
