Actually.. Asking this question is pointless.. Its you who rides the bike and you are the only person who might know if there is anything wrong with it..
If you don't know if there is any problem.. Ask the mech to ride it and he will do that for you..

As for the sound, when does this happen..? When the bike is turned on ? Or when..?
Because when the ignition is switched on, that sound is of the fuel system pumping the fuel..
Don't know whether you are referring to this or not..

    Ride safe and have fun.

Is it possible to reverse the gear shift pattern (like in race bikes, 1up 5down) on the R15? Is there a simple mod?

        I know where you're coming from .

It's just not recommended for road bikes, but anyways it is possible. You would require some machining though. On the R15 the connection goes like this:
1st link from the gear rod coming out. 2nd link connecting the 1st and your gear lever. 3rd link is the gear lever itself.
Now what you require is to remove the 2nd link in between and get the 3rd link (gear lever) cut and welded correctly at the point where the 2nd link used to connect with the 1st.
And if I'm correct these parts are aluminium so a normal weld may not be good enough.

2nd option: remove links 1 and 2. turn the 3rd link around and get a slot cut out (similar to the one that was in link 1) to connect to the gear rod. So simply, your gear lever, instead of going out to your toe, will now come from the gear rod towards your toe. But you have to think of a way to add a bolt to the joint (lever and rod) just like the standard setup of gear rod and link one. Hope this helps

The biggest benefit to a reverse shift pattern on the track is that up shifts are easier to make while you're still hung off the bike exiting a corner. This applies to both left- and right-hand corners, though for different reasons.

That's 100% normal.. a tick tick tick tick for a few seconds after shutting down the engine. My assumption is that it could be the catalytic convertor in the exhaust causing this as it cools down. Don't worry about it.

dont know, maybe i am already used to it by now, but i think i am more comfortable with this 1 down 5 up shifting pattern even while hard corner exits...of course, on the other hand, i have never experienced the reversed pattern, so dont really know how i will feel with that reverse pattern...i think i find myself more in control of the ease of the gear shifting force required by the foot on the lever with this 5 up pattern...imagining the opposite, i am not so sure i'd feel that comfortable with the reverse 5 down pattern...

it might also be down to the silly fact that my feet/boot just tend to go lower that the gear shift lever in general, so up shifting feels much much more natural than downshifting...but i guess thats the case with everyone of us..so yeah okay, i guess actually i think it's just a matter of being more comfortable/used-to with one of the patterns as compared to the other...

since i know i am never going to be a track-only (or even, mostly-track) rider, i'd prefer the standard road bike pattern on the occassional, if any, track day bikes as well...

Just returned from a trip to Horsley Hills. We were doing some offroading too and surprisingly the R15 held up quite well. It didn't give any trouble during the entire trip and was quite fun to ride it. Hoping to put many more miles on it.

                • Stuck at 8000rpm on 6th gear on Yamaha R15 v2

                  Hello All,
I don't know if this has been asked before or not, I did do a few searches and couldn't find anything regarding it.

I'm Vikas from Bangalore and I have a Yamaha R15 V2, The problem is the bike doesn't accelerate above 8000rpm on the 6th gear. The other gears are fine. I asked the SVC mechanic what might the problem be and he said might be a dirty sir filter and I got it changed and yet still the same problem. Help Please. Please direct me to a good mechanic who can fix this issue. The bike has done 13k on the odo

                  Best Regards

I believe your bike is just fine. Until ECU is replaced with a custom one it cannot cross 8k rpm. Mine did 150kmph at 7.9k rpm in 6th gear and did not go beyond it! And lastly, a stock ECU which our bikes come with cannot be remapped!

                        Try this:
Go all the way to 10k in 4th gear then shift up and see if you can reach 9.5k in 5th.

                        Assumptions:
                        - your tire pressure must be correct - atleast 28psi front and 33 back
                        - you are not riding against a head wind.

If you are able to do this then there is no problem with the bike.

Guys had a freaking incident today.. Was extremely windy today.. Crosswinds pushing from sides and i couldn't cross 100kmph. Its a highway (my daily route to college) and i was doing 90kmph due to heavy winds. And then suddenly a plastic part(Battery cover i guess) from the splendor well ahead of me flew off and fell in my path. I freaked out on seeing this and thank god i didn't apply brake. Just ran over it believing it would get smashed. Phew!! Noting happened except a huge thud and the part smashed.. Sigh!! This one was scary. If i had applied my brake in panic am sure i wont be talking here. Why the hell people don't maintain their bikes properly?? Risking others life
Funny part went ahead and told him. He touched to feel it and he was like WTF!!
Its better to sweat than bleed!! "AGATT "

The max I could do is 129! well I went to mangalore recently with two of my friends both r15! all completely stock, they were cruising at 135 and were redlining at 6th gear and i was falling behind. I could hardly maintain 120 on the hassan-bangalore 4 lane road! I used to shift down to 5th, redline and then shift up again rpm dropped back to 8k!

Well I'll try that tonight on the hosur road! and thats the thing I get my air checked every week and only fill nitrogen. My air pressure always drops to 25 front and 28 rear, always even only after a day or two! I know there are lot of environmental factors to be considered, but given the same conditions my friends reached higher rpms and top speed than me! And I did clean shifts at 9k rpm.. and at 5th i redlined.. No problem in the lower gears but 6th is just weird. My friend suggested that I might be a clutch plate issue but the service center guy insisted that i was just the air filter

Get the compression checked. Also get the valve clearance checked. It seems unlikely that the clutch is slipping only in the 6th gear at the top end of the rev range.
