Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
My R15 is 3+ years old and has clocked 25K (16k after pimping). The theoretical speed remains the same as the gearing has not been changed. However, acceleration has changed, 0 - 100 kph in 9.5 secs vis-a-vis stock 14 secs.Originally posted by ABikerAtHeart View Postabhimanyu31: odo and topspeed after pimping? All the modding makes me ask, you got any trackdays under your belt?
I have not done track days for quite some time now... Work and personal demands

Well let me explain.Originally posted by aditya_YZF-R15 View Posttrue, but i dont ride vehicles into the red line anyway, ......
...... as possible.
Revv limiter has to be there. even powerful bikes have it. there is a reason for it too. no matter how much you debate on this but the final thing will be "Revv limiter has to be there".
and regarding the top speed and the 6th gear stuff: the 6th gear is there only for highway cruising, which means it wont have more power to push you ahead but to maintain a good amount of speed and also you wont hit the rev limiter at 6th gear everytime. do not expect the 6th gear to push you ahead more then 5th gear. you will gain immense power n speed till 5th gear but at 6th you will get little lesser power since its job is different. if you happen to be lucky to get a longer stretch + less cross winds + proper throttling and gear shifts at 10k rpm and not 10.5! + full crouching you will attain the 140kmph mark (on the odo) and also if the road is little ascending then you might get lucky to cross 145 kmph. not to forget the riders weight also matters here. if you are 60+ then forget about this, because it will be 1 in 20 attempts you will do this. while riding form krishnagiri to bangalore i faced so horrible winds that from 120kmph i came down to 90kmph even though i was at 6th gear with full throttle open! so winds can have lot of effects on the bike.
I had my good run in the beginning with the bike
doing those speeds were thrill but i was like any other new rider testing the bike and its limits. now i hardly try to hit top speeds n al. just love to ride around 120ish and very rarely i try to push ahead. top i did was 152kmph. perfect conditions. it was speedo indicated, anyone please dont start off debate on this like kids
and to all Please treat the bike like a 150cc and also expect what a 150cc bike would give you. if you get anywhere close to 130kmph then thats just enough. going beyond this depends on lotta things.'On the Road that never ends...'

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
good to hear this from another rider, as this totally confirms my observations so far...massive acceleration till 5th gear and then 6th gear doesn't really pull and seems to be there just as a constant source to maintain speed..Originally posted by Ron Syl View Postdo not expect the 6th gear to push you ahead more then 5th gear. you will gain immense power n speed till 5th gear but at 6th you will get little lesser power since its job is different.
my weight is only around 54 kg or something hehe :P
will keep in mind about gear shifting at 10000 the next time and not at 10300 just before the rev limiter kicks in...
yes winds matter a lot, of course.. but yesterday was a windless day here, totally stagnant air with not even a little breeze ever..hence i was expecting it'd go a good deal post 130 on the expressway on account of absence of cross or opposing winds, but only the normal air resistance....but i suppose there still was enough wind to not allow it to go beyond 9000 in 6th gear...anyway, as i said, it doesn't really matter to me, except for testing purposes (as i am a new rider at the moment) and occasional enthusiasm for top speeding, because it does post 120 easily and that's really more than fast enough...and i like cornering a lot more than drag-racing anyway, so it's not like i'd be disappointed in not always managing to go or cross 140...in our highways, at least in UP's highways, national or state, even 100-110 is freakingly fast..i dont think i'd ever be taking to 120 and higher on the highways here..that's only possible in the golden quadrilateral bypass/expressway, which has been playing the role of my personal test track these days

152 kmph ??
damn.
absolutely massive braking power and stability by the way..love it..have to say this explicitly at least once.Last edited by aditya_YZF-R15; 08-11-2013, 07:30 PM.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
HI!! My bike vibrates when is rip it in lower gears(1,2&3). I feel the vibration only at the fuel tank and foot pegs! no other kind of vibrations, vibrations are felt only from 7k to 8k on the tacho however there are no abnormal noises, there is a bit of vibration on the pillion seat too... I ride mostly on highways without a pillion rider.. I ride at about 90 to 120kph most of the time, occasionally reach 140+. Odo reading is 12k and bike is 14 months old. I tightened the tank bolts and there were no vibrations for 70 kms, vibes were back again after that, i told the service mechanic about this, he did not solve the problem for me! I feel very disappointed about this. Other than this the bike is fine. why does this happen? is it because of speed and ripping? How do i correct it? Please help...
----consecutive posts auto-merged-----
Same experience here bro..! 130kmph is guaranteed, anything more depends on winds and rider weight.. i lost 7kilos due to jaundice and the topspeed increased by 8 on the same road and same conditions.. its even worse with a pillion, i was able to reach only 125kph..Originally posted by aditya_YZF-R15 View Postgood to hear this from another rider, as this totally confirms my observations so far...massive acceleration till 5th gear and then 6th gear doesn't really pull and seems to be there just as a constant source to maintain speed..

but mind you every bike it differs. its not that even you will get the same top speed i got on the odo, due to speedo error n other things obviously. your bike is still at 1k kms right? i had done max of 135kmph at this stage. after around 2.5k i was able to ripp till 150kmph. so let your bike set properly.
many posts back i had told this, if you treat it very softly now its gets soft later and ripping wont be fun and attaining higher speeds will be difficult. if you start ripping now you will get a grunty bike (read as little more power then the softer bike, plz dont assume few HP increase ! i mean the way it accelerates) and expect little vibes at handle bar n other places.
as all know i owned 2 r15v2s till now. the first one i treated like a drag bike at it was just amazing in terms of acceleration and top speed but obviously with vibes. had done 152kmph on that.
the 2nd bike was done a very boring runnin till 2.5kms by the first owner so it became a softer bike with lesser top end and not the same acceleration as first bike. top was 148kmph something after riding miles together crouching. so totally 2 different behavior depending on the way you shape it to be. think wise.
check for proper fastening of the screws. have you done a service or the periodic maintenance of the bike at 12k?Originally posted by Gurudatt View PostHI!! To all those how-to-run-in-the-bike-oh-it's-so-confusing. Here's an advice.
Read and follow the OWNER's Manual. Keep it simple.. Old School technique will do more good than harm your bike

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Hi ,
I hope all of you are doing well!
I haven't been on this thread for a long time now. I frankly don't have anything to report on!
The bike has been an angel to me
But one thing about the tyre pressure. How often do you go for filling up air in your tyres?
I am asking this because I see that that the tyre pressure goes down (on an average) every 3rd day and I literally feel every pothole on the road. With proper air, no such issues (it glides!!)
Is it something I should be concerned about. Daily commute-30 kms odd.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Long time this thread so looks so different.
I have a query-
At times the handle bar feels tight, not ready to turn. I checked if there is any puncture, its clean. Any idea why is the tightness in steering, also, it happens at its will, not every time. Anything got to do with no retracting brake pads because of rains and muck or cone set or anything else that I'm missing.sigpic

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Get the handle bar greased. May happen due to muck. As it is your bike feels a tad too tighter than the rest of our bikes read Kuntal's, Gaurav's and mine. Lets meet up gotta ride to know itOriginally posted by Eshan-P180 View PostLong time this thread so looks so different.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Hi Ron!
Wow :|...I guess I need to check my tires. No punctures from the time I brought my bike
Can you tell me how to start with this? I did try looking at my rims sometime back. I didn't see any gaps between where my tires and rims contact each other
Anything else needs to be checked??
