Agreed, the manual says that the coolant level has to be checked during each service and if required, to be topped up. Replacement is recommended at 20,000 kms.

How do you determine whether the chain needs to be lubed? Any specific pointers/ indicators? My R15 is @ 500 kms now but I think the chain needs lubrication..

Nope I did not. The same thing happened again yesterday. This time, I just used the engine kill switch, toggled it off and then back to on, hit the starter again and voila, it was back to life..I am ignoring this for the moment, if this happens frequently will take it to the Yamaha SVC.

I completed a 310 kms ride to mysore and back from Bangalore with a pillion (my GF) and a backpack (pics coming up soon). Did not expect it to be as comfortable as it actually was! The only thing hurting at the end of it were my bums

Changed my engine oil and filter. Surprisingly, could not see any metal fillings/ pieces in the drained oil

-Chain lubrication can be decided by two things, hard gear shifts and chain noise. False gear changes can also be taken as an indicator for chain lube.

-I am not telling you have made a blunder, but why do you want load a new engine that's just 200kms old with a highway run of 300kms? That too with a pillion & backpack? Just puts more stress on the engine internals.

-Did you find metal scrapings in the oil filter atleast ? If you see the drained oil against the sun in a transperant container, you will notice a million tiny specs of metal scraps, that may look like dust, and then there will be the big scraps that looks like comma's.

He leaned the bike to its absolute maximum(almost) but never shifted his weight. the first r15's rider did a bit, we can see his leg thrown out.
1.he lost traction of the rear tyre because of the extreme lean angle.
                2. he panicked and braked.

To avoid overload, I had frequent breaks, plus I consciously avoided constant throttle, kept varying gears and RPM (restricting it to 5k with 1/ 2 occasional bursts) as far as possible.

well i think centre stand does look good on any kind of sports bike. As it is a Baby SBK it won't look good. Well but there are times when we really feel that there must have been a centre stand. But you have to compromise in somethings. Well but paddock stands are very costly. I think it costs around 5-7 k and that is a lot.

                        Done with my 1st r15 v2 servicing.

                        Problems faced after that.
                        1. Chain noise....hissssss( continuous ).... Clearly audible at nights without helmet on ...as u dnt have ur ears covered.
Comparing the noise with the smooth ride be4 servicing

                        2. This one seems serious...the right fairing heats up.
I didn't notice heating problem till my servicing. Now the right side heats up In a strange manner. Left side is all cool...???? Weird ..very weird.
1'st servicing undergoes a coolant change right???
So is there any chance of coolant screwed up??? . Is the coolant divided in left and right zone?
And left being with less coolant...? I have no idea so plainly guessing.
One probable reason for heating of any bike engine is oil leakage.my zma had this problem...the oil used to leak and heat up sending fumes all around the bike tank.

                        Please help
The chain noise is fine for me! As DrVenom said, check for lube.

Regarding the second, even it has started to heat up more than what it used to before servicing!
Even I was charged INR. 250 for the coolant. Don't know if it was top-up or change! I wasn't allowed in the service bay.

The coolant level is fine. Its probably because we rev her harder than what we used to during run-in!

Originally posted by DrVENOM View Post

-For the second problem, A new bike in its initial few kms (read even till 2k km) tends to heat up significantly. Thats not an issue. And for my own inference, the radiator fan kicks out more air through the right fairing than the left fairing. This explains why the right fairing gets more heated up. And if you had been noticing all this when the bike was on side-stand, then its self-explanatory because hot air tends to travel up. As long as the engine-temp gauge in the console doesn't light up. Its all fine.

@ TO ALL OWNERS- No car or bike manufacturer, to my knowledge, recommends to change the coolant during the first service. Coolant is freshly topped up during the Pre-Delivery Inspection time. And that makes the coolant only one month old during first service. And life-span of coolant is 12-24 months depending on its chemical nature and riding conditions. I am sure Yamaha doesn't recommend coolant change during first service, though i haven't looked up the manual. Coolant top-up is all that might be necessary during first service, if at all. Stop getting ripped.

@ ALL- Do not quote all the pics posted by other owners in your post, not only it clutters the thread with same pics, but also makes it tough for browsing with mobile phone.
Thanks! So waiting for some more time, will check the heating till 2000 kms.
I was ripped regarding the coolant then..

                        Pics coming soon!

                        Yet to complete first service...
Will it vanish of @ the first service?
Yup! Once after the service, you rev her harder, smoother she'll get at the lower revs!

Perfectly okay! The lever is fit perfectly, and hence the hardness! Once you use it a bit more, they'll get smoother.

Paddock stand is not easily available.
So I think, we can get the center stand, and use it temporarily whenever we want to, just like the SVC guys do!
                        Any suggestions?
