We care our bikes as babies. But I doubt if the dealers do so with our bikes. An incident made me to think like this. Last friday I was going back to home from office. I was doing 70 - 80kmphr. I saw 2 unregistered Hounda Activa scooters overtaking me. It seems they are the workers at a service center. I'm sure if they get an r15 they will ride it at 120+. And which will be sold to us.
Love the ride, not the destination

      This is 100% true.
Even i have seen many bikes like these. And not only bikes but even cars. They ride it at top speed. It is obvious because nobody has the patience to ride slow if its not his bike . The SVC guys dont care.

And even we cant help it. we dont have any option.
The best place you could buy a yamaha bike is from its factory shop. they get the bikes delivered in the trucks.

            • RIPPED it HARD!!!

Hi friends test rode the new r15, the handling and the stability of the new version is simply the best. The previous versions handling was no doubt good but yamaha made sure that this bike gets better handling and looks than the previous one.
Coming to the ripping session i was with the salesman who was pillion behind me and all i could remember was the 4th gear got over at 111-112 and the 5th gear on full slope got completely over at 128-129km/hr @ 10.5k rpm. unfortunately in mumbai city there are no proper stretch so couldn put 6th.
And as far as i remember on the first lot of r15 the 5th gear maxed out at 132km/hr and the recent one maxed out at 129. Does that mean the v2 r15 doesnt have greater top end than the v1??

**NOTE : This bike had done just 20km on odo so does that effect on gearing ratio?? I HIGHLY DOUBT!!

the 2nd at 150-200 (its excluding the first 50)
also the 3rd (its excluding the 150-200 + 50) and so on.

                  Correct me if I'm wrong.

It's just that it is a fairly agressive schedule and method. My 2 cents for the whole thing is that if you are not confident about the running schedule then it's best that you stick to the running method and schedule recommended by the bike manufacturer.

Also API FS is a standard and it is not necessary that a oil that meets this standard is a fully synthetic oil. And also note that the advice that most people give about running initially on mineral oil for 'x' kms and only changing to fully synthetic oil after may no longer be valid. Many cars and bikes now come with fully synthetic oil from the factory itself.

Sorry, forgot to add: Joel was not recommending the said running in method for a stock bike. He was responding to a discussion that was taking place on another thread for his 165cc big bore kit, which incidentally runs far tighter tolerances than the stock piston and bore.
Correct me if im wrong, but isnt this kinda (extremely) similiar to the motoman run-in methode.. First P220 now R15... Guess its high time to realize that our commuters can, in no day match upto SBK's capabilities.

And about the R17, the MOTOMAN run-in can only be recomended for it if the pistons are honed to perfection like the ones they use in performance bikes. But since I'm not sure about their build, I guess joel would be able to proide rest of the details.

Thats what I was talking about. MOTOMANS run-in schedule. But not recomended for our commuters. Suitable only for SBK's.

And I've read somewhere in xbhp that the best way to run-in R15's are by letting it run on idle for 3hrs. Not sure, but will post the link to the thread when I find it.

Idling for 3 hours is the worst you can do!

I have run in my R17 with motoman's method, i'm still running in, my first 42km's were run very hard, hit the rev limiter twice, though not my intention, changed the oil, full of metal particles, ran up to 165km's then next oil and filter change (this was yesterday) now i'm at 330 km's, next oil/filter change will be at 500km's.

Now with motoman's methods, the idea is to load pressure on the piston rings to get a perfect seal, now to achieve this on the road, you need to accelerate with full throttle (rpm's are not imortant, 7.5k rpm is about as high as you will need to go) you do this through the gears as much as you can, you also need to decelerate through the rev range, also hard (engine braking) the idea is to use mineral oil for this process, why? because you want friction, otherwise slippery synthetic oil will make the process go on for ever and you'll end up using oil.

Ultimately it's up to you as to what you believe, after all why would a manufacturer want your engine etc to last forever without problem?
Remember the sale of spare parts is bigger business (profit margin wise) than the sale of a new vehicle.

                        so if i want better performance the i have to follow motoman's method and if i want better FE then follow the normal method? am i right? {i mean for R15 V2}

Performance and FE are closely related, efficiency is the name of the game, ultimately you have to make your own calculated decision on how you want to break in an engine.
