Another way is to get the jet wired once at Manali or some mechanic enroute and ride hiccup free impulse to leh and back.

and if i will ride to leh again I'll take along the 125jet (running on my impulse everytime here at kow altitudes i dont use the stock132 jet) and the Mikuni's 105jet and few 3 or 4 jets too as per Keihin 100-115.
    Ok brother, two questions:

    1) what is "get jet wired", I am somewhat familiar with functions of carb, but don't understand what it means.

    2) how come you decided to downsize from the stock jet? I read somewhere on this thread (could be your post) that impulse mix is reacher then regular, but then it said that it assists in cooling the engine.

I also see you talk abt two different carbs (mikuni and keihin) what's the story behind it?

    Thanks in advance.

      In simple words :
Carburettor has jets through which the fuel is supplied to mix with air which makes a mixture of Air and fuel and that burns later in the cylinder after being supplied by the carb. So jets in the carb are responsible for the amount of fuel and that depends on the size (hole dia) of the jet. Big size equals to big dia and thus more fuel.

So in order to reduce fuel as compared to air, we reduce the quantity of fuel by blocking the diameter by passing a wire through the jet. Making its diameter small and thus reducing the quantity of fuel. (Which is too high in Impulse and thus it runs abruptly at high altitudes because of lots of fuel and less oxygen. So in order to make up for less oxygen we decrease the fuel too, which keeps the A/F mixture balanced. And no hiccups then.

Yaah the Air/Fuel mixture is rich way too rich on impulse due to the big 132 size jet. I found it when i took it to nearby hill tops around my place. It didn't even climbed the way the 100cc ones do. Running problems were there at mere 8000ft , wondering about what might happen at 10000+ft led me to some tinkering and one thing led to another and thats how i found it. And thus the down-jetting and constantly aiming towards to make the mixture Lean as compared to that over rich stock.

I also see you talk abt two different carbs (mikuni and keihin) what's the story behind it?
      Keeping it simple again.
Some bikes come with Keihin carbs and some with Mikuni. They have few structural differences but they both do the same thing, just the make is different and thus the jet size nomenclature of both are different too. So the sizes engraved on the jets of mikuni (for ex 110) will never be the same for keihn (110).

Check your ignition system. Starting with your spark plug, ignition coil, CDI... it will be easier if you replace each part from another impulse one at a time till you get to the defective part.

Thank you for the explanation. I am assuming it's much easier to stick the wire in the jet then to replace the jet. I have not looked inside the carb of my impulse yet, can I count on your assistance if I hit a dead end and can't figure out where to stick that wire?

Did you notice any performance drop when you downsized your jet? I am assuming that the mileage has increased, am I correct?

              Sure ! You can.

And yaah the bike's top end goes up for a toss. Decreasing jetsize had the top speeds to go down. And yaah Kmpl figures goes up.

Kaarizma has a 125jet and Impulse 132 and thus thats the reason Karizma has more kmpl figures than Impulse. Ive witnessed it personally over long tours!

Easy way to check if its filter - just remove the filter and see if problem persists. Don't drive around too much without the filter, but a few minutes on a non-dusty road would not hurt the bike.

I just bought a new stock air filter. Let me see if they have more. Where are you located?
