Open simply by removing the snorkel joint and then another set of screws that tighten the air filter. Clear the dust that accumulates nearby. Blow air if possible thought the blower side of a vacuum cleaner. Fit it back and ride.
Hey Guys, I feel that water gets in easily especially when you pressure wash and that too changes of water entering through right side panel are high. If you observe carefully I see that there is a enough gap on right side panel than left.

Not sure if shane#1 has experienced that or not but I didn't want to take chance on this rainy season So I removed just the rubber nozzle (without cutting the it fully.... uffff... did it with great difficulty) and fixed back the cover. Vrrooooooommmm problem solved !!!!!!!
Just to be on safer side also ordered for air filter cap on Hero website today.
Thanks a ton to sancreation and shane#1 for their valuable inputs here

Here are the pics of mod, also wanted to post the mod of tiny project lamps.

Yes. I had to ride about 5kms with that flat on rocky mountain trail to get to a puncture guy. Ceat tyre and the rear rim did a good job of holding up against the abuse.

                  Hi guys,
I was thinking to upgrade the stock headlamp bulb to a phillips hs1 12v 35/35 crystal vision. But i am in a chaos whether to get hs1 or h4. will the hs1 suit impulse???
and what i need is a pure white light, is there any better bulb than phillips crystal vision?? i need to upgrade the parklight to a white one, suggest me a gud headlamp bulb and parklight.

I got an LED lamp (h4 I believe), white, bright and very low power consumption. My local mechanic charged me around 1 grand. You can also search eBay and get as low as 800rs. But the one I got was a better quality.

If you go LED you will need to DC your bike. I can't help you there but if your mechanic can't do it - get a new mechanic, coz it seriously takes 20-30 minutes tops!

Parking lights also can be LED wedge type.

Wow man, congratulations! Planning leh next year myself. Any issues with the bikes? Did you have to adjust tuning (AF ratio, etc) for high altitude?

Some technical details would be highly appreciated!

Yaah lots of A/F calibration all the way. Starting from 12000ft+ to highest at Tanglang La 17000+ft. I had a Mikuni's 105 mainjet installed on my Impulse's Keihin carb. Keeping it down to 118jetsize (as per the Keihin to Mikuni conversion tables). So this down jetting to 118 main jet kept my Impulse climbing nice and easy over 12000+ft at the cost of a lil top end (due to the low jetsize).
So now crossing 14000ft i started to have problems, i noticed slight hiccups but the momentum kept me going and climbing all the way to Kunzum and down below.

Whereas problems start to shape the same way around Sarchu-Pang route where i was left with no option but to wire the jet. Opened up the carb and wired the 132 size jet (stock on the impulse), comparing consequently the size with the Mikuni's 105 which i removed thereafter.

So now having the hole slightly narrowed than that i plonked the carb back and got it running. No diff. I felt.
Removed it back and plonked it again thrice with the wire getting more thicker and the jet hole going more narrow than the last wiring.
.....and with jet size now reduced to 60-70% almost of the original it rode great with no hiccups and altitude sickness all the way to Leh and back. Vehicle now wasn't crossing 80+kph mark now with jet size reduced to that extent. But i rode nice and easy & l70-80kph was enough and back till Manali i was on the same wired jet. Just to notice how it performs (curiosity!).
Post manali, to dehradun i plonked in the 125jetsize that of Zma. That always is on my Impulse's carb riding at sea level too.

So that was all with the jet sizes and altitude variations ! Apart from this vehicle ran great. Carried a lot of luggage and flew past the several Enfields i met overtaking across the way. No punctures no niggles of any sort other than that!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience.

In your opinion, would you recommend taking different sizes jets along the way instead of doing a quick fix? I am riding on stock at the moment.

If you were to ride again, what sizes would you bring along?

Either you can take different jets along with you and plonk in smaller jets when you hit altitudes but that would take hideous amount of work removing the carb and installing it again every now and then fighting with the correct jet size.
Another way is to get the jet wired once at Manali or some mechanic enroute and ride hiccup free impulse to leh and back.

and if i will ride to leh again I'll take along the 125jet (running on my impulse everytime here at kow altitudes i dont use the stock132 jet) and the Mikuni's 105jet and few 3 or 4 jets too as per Keihin 100-115.
