A very useful and practical mod and done well too . It's a quite heavy metal mudguard , you could have used a lighter plastic one ... but thats alrighty .

Why , whats wrong with it ? A properly functional front mudguard is essential and practical on our roads in monsoon . I often notice (not without some pity) impulse riders turn in at the petrol filler with their shoes and trousers thickly covered upto their knee with mud thrown up by the front wheel . Plus their pillion rider's pants too ! Practicality is the keyword with motorcycle riding , not pretense .

The attachment you have fitted to your leg-guard in lieu of a front mudguard shall impede airflow to the engine and overheat it , holes or no holes . There is no doubt about that . Moreover it shall increase wind resistance and reduce fuel mileage .

That filter can easily get wet and at best stop working . At worst it can suck in water into the engine and cause hydrolock or rust and damage to the piston , rings and cylinder . This is why foam air filters well enclosed in an airbox safely tucked under the seat is the norm on dirt bikes .

I got the idea what this word "Pretense" is about with a nice smiley.

I also pay attention to practicality over looks but there's a difference between a Mule n a Steed.

It's called Dirt bike for a reason which I see is not understood here, what else one can expect out of it if driven in rains.

It's not called dirt bike for it gets the rider dirty every ride ? I get what you feel perfectly and yes a low normal front mudguard may cause problem in dirt riding , but for that kind of riding we need to have a dedicated dirt-rider bike . For street riding during our wet season a front mudguard with good coverage is necessary , I feel - at least if you want to arrive somewhere in a respectable condition . I have even worse feelings for those riders with minimal rear muguards that throws muck into my face when they are in front of me . I do ride a lot in the rain and love that too .

nothing is going to happen if u remove that fly mudguard..its ur choice...but just try it... no need of that big protector which u fitted...then check with ur friend about a new look...thanks

----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

hai friend..plz check out a you tube video of adam riemanns himalayan adventure with our hero impulse.wath that video carefully.u can see mud and water thrown to all his body including his face blocking his vision....thank u

----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

if u put airfilter out side ..it will suck water too and injects water directly to engine through carburettor...and spoil the engine...plz try to fix this under the seat to get that roaring sound.

One simple suggestion to keep it simple buddy... why don't you buy some other bike which is good to ride in monsoons... And which according to you is practical.

We here love riding not just to commute but for sheer fun of it and its a welcome change in biking scenario in india where some of us are growing over commuting mentality. Its not practical to buy a bike that dose not serve your purpose at first place. And then making it what you call practical.

No hard feelings dude... Just a simple suggestion to keep things simple. Better buy a commuter or a royal but not impulse because its for people who love mud and dirt....

Thank u for putting it so well.

I wudnt have managed to b so polite n make ur point. Since what I saw n read from rusted biker was a rape of any "purpose built" bike lover's intelligence. Anyways, this forum celebrate the brotherhood n our passion/love for bikes...thats y I kept quiet. It's sad that people consider themselves to be bikers just because they have to ride the bike alot (mostly for work) that's y the question of practicality arises. U r right bavlo that v r here for sheer love n fun of riding our Impulse.

I like what u said

ID:	1854436dear friend bravlo...i get the feel when u ride impule..as i am a humble owner of this bike and 5 more bikes including royal enfield..i can proudly say impulse worth the money.no bikes in india in its price range available with srong steel wheels except impulse this time.companies give cheap alloy wheels to reduce the cost and buyers suffer it...but take it simple...its an off road on road bike wht company says..right? you can simply ride this bike on off road and on road too.but if u run this bike like a complete dirt bike style, i am 100% sure the bike will get ruined. forks are long but slim cannot afford long high jumps.( i am not talking about x games high jumps) but normal jumps& chassis is not srong enough too if u dont strengthen it by extra welding. Riding through mud and dirt or water,100% sure u will have to stop to clean ur face.. i have experience when i had a drive through thick long forest at normal speed level where we had to face the same dirt problem..mud sprayed on legs not a huge matter but on face its a big problem especially when we ride on dirt....i experienced it my friend...and i had the same problems on high ways too....that was the reason why i fixed a normal steel mud guard ..and i do the same off roading after fixing it....now there is no water, mud problem...now iam comfortable with my impulse.....i know most impulse owners dont like to remove that mudguard as it removes that sports off road thrilling look from it...at this point i agree 100% with u .i too felt sad to remove it but i had no other option....because i want to do pure off roading...and no time to stop and clean my face....if any impulse owners feel a different thought ,plz have a look at Adam Riemanns 4500 km adventure trip to himalayas with impulse(you tube).watch that video carefully how this mud guard gives him a feel where he drives through water and dirts and blocks his vision .......thank u all....

----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

one more thing i agree....when we do off roading ...sure we have to suffer dirt mud water etc...thats what off roading means...but all off road bikes are not fiied with high fly mud guards..take a look at on road off road bikes in google images....take husqvarna.. a swedish on road off road bikes manufacturing company..thank u impulse lovers

Hey friends,
All of you have shared good points. But let us not dictate what biking is according to our terms. It is different things to different people.
While I'm sure doing certain things might be practical, one can try and do it to look nice as well; there is no need for something functional to be not suiting the form.
Please do avoid being confrontational and critical about others efforts. You might express that "That wouldn't suit me" or "I personally don't like it" but going to the extent of calling it the rape of biking is uncalled for.
Just my thoughts, happy posting!

Thanks buddy! It does look superb....(u did not get knuckle guards with ur dragon?)

I ride within city limits that too not more than 20KM at a stretch so u can imagine the level heat i should be worried about. Its not that i ride from
Mumbai to Nashik everyday that everyone is making such a fuss about it(Not you). Also its not covered from all 4 sides, also there's a hole big
enough to pass air directly to engine.

Above all its NOT a PERMANENT contraption.

It sure looks firebird...all orange!!

Loved ur rim stickers, I got white rim stickers after I saw them on urs. I like the no. plate above headlight only, as removing it reveals those 2 screw holes on forehead.

I dont mind or care about it flinging mud on by legs, as its a temp issue only till monsoon lasts. I never experienced my Impulse throwing dirt from rear to mess up my clothes or pillion rider's..that's a pure exaggeration.

I love the wildness of Impulse; suits me.
