  • Thank You Crvlvr.
Head light running off alternator is good news as it doesn't eat away battery and can be upgraded by rewinding alternator coils. But hope the flickering part is not a problem.

Recently one Impulse belonging to a friend happened to be dropped in parking lot by some curious security guy. Seems like after checking out the bike, the security chap didn't extend the side stand fully and left the bike. It seems to have folded under the bike's weight and the fall caused deep scratches on mudguard, visor and fairing. If only center stand was present , this might have been avoided.
Now I wonder how to protect the bike, when parked in public places.

    • got my Blue impulse!

Got delivery of my blue Impulse on 19th and have not been able to get myself off her. On 21st took her for 50km ride off bangalore and noticed that one need not slow down when riding over pot holes, speed breakers, etc, on the contrary one can speed through them by standing on the pegs.....
On 22nd i took her off road and jumped over a few crests the largest of them being about 1+ mtr or so.....she is very well behaved, calm and composed upon landing....waiting for the breakin period of 500km to try more tricks....
Bought Impulse for weekend fun, but have been riding her to office and my car is sulking at home for the last 2 days.
the handling on/off road is solid and cries for more power to match it...
the ride too is brilliant on/off-road...
the side stand is designed like a-la dirt bike where one can stand on the pegs and kick start if required....
the highway cruising is also pretty smooth, though the top speed is insufficient...
if only Hero bumped up the power to 20bhp...sigh! Well the fuel efficiency figures will douse my a desire a little here when i empty the tank i hope....
in summary, it can do street, dirt, cruise....the only question remains can it be good fun track bike with slicks on when compared to a pulsar or TVS apache....will be able to answer that in April hopefully....
Well it definitely is a very poor man's Multistrada....

      • trnaren,
Where did you buy your Impulse from??? Just to know which dealer is better.. Prakash Motors is quite close to my place but i don't get good vibes from them.. Something always seems off.. So wanted to know which other dealer I could approach.
        Thanks.

Bought it from Millenium motors, Domlur...the attention one gets is not great even at Millenium.....blame on Hero being the largest motorcycle vendor in India if not in the world.....

          • Thanks for the reply, trnaren.. How much did it come to?? I have got a quote from a dealer on RV Road for 82K, all included and for 80.5 K, on road only, from a dealer near horamavu.. Wonder why the difference in prices..

            • Price split up , in hyderabad is like this:

              Ex-showroom: 68089
              lifetax( @ 9%): 6130
              Temp reg : 450
              Subtotal : 74670

              Handling : 1450
              Accessories : 600
              2 yr Ext Wrnty: 570
              Subtotal :77290

              Insurance : 2211
              Good life card : 250

              Total :79751

Any price above this is a rip off and should be negotiated.
Permanent registration if opted from dealer can cost anything between 950-1200.
If you can get insurance done online, then it will cost only 1510 ( source: bajaj allianz). That is another 700 saving (vs INR 2211 from dealer).

              • Bought a Green Impulse

Bought this evening a new grassland green Impulse.
                Costed INR 79000 On road.
                Break up:
                Ex-showroom- INR 68089
                Temp Reg - INR 450
                Lifetax@9% - INR 6130
Handling & accessories - INR 2200 (accessories due)
                Ext wrrnty - INR 570
                Insurance - INR 1555

Didn't opt for insurance from the dealer , instead got myself an online policy from Bajaj allianz. Also didn't opt for good life card.

The overall experience is nothing to write about. The hero dealers feel like they are actually heroes.
They misplaced the muffler heat shield and promised to source new one from another branch of theirs.

PDI was pathetic. Though vehicle didn't have any scratches, They did miss out on one important point.
My tacho doesn't light up when head lights are switched on !!
When I brought it to their notice, they promised to look into it on next working day, since it was closing time. And next working day means on 27th since tomorrow is holiday.

Whenever I hold front brake lever or rear brake only the tacho lights up and along with it front pilot lamp too glows !!
I thought its weird . Did any other Impulse owners face this problem?
Also, the digital meter orange backlight stays on even without switching pilot light . I think something is wrong with electricals.
I will open the fairing tomorrow and check it out. Meanwhile any pointers will be helpful.

                • Regarding the orange backlight of speedo, it stays on through out in my bike too even without putting the pilot lights on. so in short it stays on through out the daytime too !!

Other owners please share your comments too !!

                  • behaviour of console backlight

Impulse owners of forum , please post if your bikes pilot(position) lamp and tacho backlight comes on "without" need to press either brake lever?

In my case, the self start works only when either front brake or rear brake is engaged. This seems to standard practice of hero bikes- so fine with that.

However, when I switch on pilot lamp (middle position in RHS switch gear), neither the pilot lamp nor the tacho light is illuminated. Only when I press either brakes the position(pilot) lamp and tacho light is illuminated.
I opened up the fairing and RHS switch gear to see if wires have been swapped. From what I see it appears that ground for brake lever switch, engine on switch and lights is common and hence without engaging gear lever circuit doesn't complete. So, it seems to be a design mistake.

Other owners ,can you please confirm the switch behaviour on your bikes.

P.S. The speedo (lcd) orange backlight though stays on all the time.

                    • Thanks for the meter light.

But for ignition , I can self start it without pressing any lever.
In your case this must be happening because as you said there is some ground that is open, when you press the brakes, the brake switch completes the circuit and your starter motor gets the ground connection. It is pointless to have brakes applied for starter motor to work, it should actually be the clutch so that the bike doesn't jump forward in case it is in gear and you press the clutch,

I have also noticed that the starter works even when the engine is running, it can actually damage the starter motor. They should have provided with some safety circuit that doesn't let the starter operate when the engine is running.

For other owners too , does the starter operate when the engine is running ?

                      • Hello !!

                        I have one question ..

I read somewhere in this xbhp website saying " If we change our bike engine oil @ regular intervals of 250 kms till 3000 kms Increases our bike Engine Life " --> is it true ??

My question is -- > If we keep changing the engine oil @ regular intervals of 250 kms , " No Sludge would be formed and the oil remains new , and what is the use of changing the oil ?? Am i Right ?

Please " Correct me if I'm wrong " .. I hope you guys would understand what i'm trying to ask and why i'm posting My question here because i can't find that particular thread on this website ..

You shouldn't ride hard all of sudden since you haven't crossed 5k rpm till now, instead increase the rpms gradually. I mean, ride in 5k-6k band for about 80-100km , then increase the band to 7k like that. Don't start ripping all of a sudden. Just my 2 cents, I don't have any proof behind that reasoning.

If any of the owners here received their accessories, could you please confirm the items. My accessories are due from dealer.

This evening I went for 140 km ride ( 100km highway and 40 km kacha roads with lots of bumps and undulations.) Could ride even at 50kmph on the bad roads, bike behaved very well. Didn't go above 5k mark. At 5k rpm speed shown was 65kmph.
Being a newly launched bike,it turned heads wherever I went.
