Hero Impulse ownership experience

    Did a 440 km round trip (highway, includes ghat and offroad). Max speed I could do is 103kmph ( aided by slope). But on flat roads, the bike takes ages to go beyond 96kmph which it can reach at 7500rpm in 5th gear.
    I maintained 80kmph which is achieved at about 6200rpm, at which speed bike is cruising very comfortable and is quite composed at those speeds. Frequently jumped ( didn't brake to slow down) on speed breakers at speeds of 70kmph which came in the villages through which the highway ran. Can't do the same stunt had there been alloy rims instead of the spoke and steel ones.
    Doing 78-80kmph, bike delivered 40kmpl.
    I think the 57 teeth rear sprocket is what cuts off the top speed on this bike compared to its 150 siblings. On the plus side, the acceleration upto 90kmph is quite good and inspires confidence.
    BTW, on ghats , while I was climbing inclines in fifth gear it occasionally slipped to neutral. Didn't have any problem when I downshifted to 4th or 3rd. I think eventhough bike is still in power band, 5th being overdrive, should not be used for heavy loading.
    I achieved that speed with crouch forward with lot of cross wind affecting the top speed. I was at flat straight section of road and that was quite impressive with my 95 kg weight because i rode my brother's R15 at same road and achieved the top wake of 125 Kmph.

    But i am disappointing with mileage because when u ride it to over 80 kmph with constant speed, it returns the mileage in the league of Bullet, CBR, R15 etc. The main pinch is that at 90 kmph bullet, cbr, r15 behaves much better (much much mature) while impulse runs out of breath.

        Buddy Same Problem here..........that was occur when i shifted from 4 to 5th and 5th gear was stuck for just of second and after that slipped to its correct position. At that time i was accelerate very hard say around 8500 rpm. It is only for cursing..........in normal driving condition 5th gear works perfectly.

                Going by your experience in biking, am really surprised and shocked to read such a thing happen to you. Very curious to know the details.

                  the bike going under water was totally my fault. me and my wife are bowled over by our impulse the way it tackled the mountain tracks. one word the bike is simply superb. will upload a video too of the ride.

                  • Just some random thoughts after about 800 km on the bike

                    1. the big HOLE (in ratios) between 1st and 2nd gears id getting more annoying every time I have to deal with slow traffic. I suspect Hero has messed with the 1st gear ratio. I hope they fix this soon -- First is too short and 2nd too tall.

                    2. I think the bike may benefit -- both in terms of top speed and high speed fuel economy -- the a 10-20% smaller rear sprocket


                    Question: Anyone one else hear a knocking sound from the engine between 6-8K under hard acceleration?

                    • a smaller sprocket will result in lower torque/acceleration which wud be less fun on dirt roads. This bike is not meant for touring because -
                      1.top end is hardly 100 kmph. comfortable riding at 80 kmph only
                      2.lack of windscreen , more fatigue to the rider
                      3.12 ltr fuel tank , less range

                          • Hi , this might not be the right place,
                            one person is selling his 1 month old red impulse run around 400kms.
                            I am planning to give my R15v1.0 & take impulse as i will not do much touring & ride mostly in city only. I am around 6ft so impulse feels comfortable. The suspension of the bike was very good for bad city roads.
                            What do you suggest guys?

                            • Go for it ... Dont think Twice, Its definitely not a fast machine but its very comfortable and can take bad roads with a smile and a laugh !! The riding Stance is great !!

                              • For city ride......Impulse is definitely quick motorcycle.......and in the hand of good rider it can easily outperform R15 in city traffic.......
