  • Re: Big Bore kit and front mud guard modification

    Hi Joe,
The 165 cc conversion kit totally transforms the bike performance and I feel that should be just enough for offroading rides.
The best way to deal with Race Concepts is to catch hold of a friend in Bangalore. Ask him to pay an advance and then follow up till he gets his hand on the kit and then courier it back to Chennai. Based on my experience, I can tell you that, riding all the way to Bangalore does not guarantee you a ready kit inspite of their promises and your trip could be in vain.
I have also noted a lot of guys on the forum cribbing about the water splashing due to the high front mud guard position.
I tried to fit a wheel hugger to the front tyre but it looks awful. So I have done a simple mod by fixing a chopped barrier to the block.Got two pieces of metal sheets gas welded to the front crash bar. chopped a Yamaha R15 rear tyre hugger in half and fixed it to the metal pieces with nuts and bolts. All the dirt and water splashes on the hot engine block is history. You still get some splashes on your boots and shins when you turn the handle, but I can live with that. It's a simple DIY and cost me under 300 bucks.

Looks good, but in case of longer travel of the fork (probably in a off road jump) I thing it would take a hit with the stock mud guard. Have you faced any issue like that?

This is not possible without the rear paddock stand or a stool type frame stand like you have in your avatar.

I had this done in the showroom to fix a sticky rear brake. The inexperienced mech put the bike on the rear stand an removed the main axle. The wheel however would not come off because of the way the brake shoe plate is held onto the swing arm and because the rear sprocket is bolted directly to the hub (from what I recall, IIRC) so taking the chain off is unavoidable. The chain has to be loosened and taken off the rear sprocket to allow the wheel to slide backwards and also to release the brake shoe plate from it's swing arm anchoring point.

Side note: The brake shoe tension springs on the Impulse are of poor quality, they reminded me of a ball-pen spring when compared to the brake shoe springs on an RX100. These weak springs combined with a lack of lubrication on the cam shaft were causing the rear brakes to stick after the mech oiled the shaft during service.

Hey guys, was wondering if an engine swap from a Karizma can be done on the Impulse ? If yes, what all things would have to be changed ? And has anyone done it ?
                Thanks

                  Hello Experienced owners !!
Any Aftermarket free flow silencers available for impulse, or any site from where we can order online. i don't want those cheap 2000 rupees loud pipes which actually damage the engine. i am looking at genuine exhausts which actually improve power figures. Links and suggestions are welcomed.
One more question, would SAE 90 gear oil be okay for the chain or we have to use only Chain grease sprays ??

Don't know about the exhaust part.

Yes, you can use SAE 90 gear oil for lubricating the chain. Good and cheap. Clean the chain with Chain spray/kerosene/diesel and apply gear oil.

                    Ride safe and have fun.

after recent oil change which was Honda 10w30 mineral, my impulse engine is heating up alot even on highways. today i heard a loud thud sound from engine while riding on highway which somewhat unsettled balance for a second. i don't know what was it. Experts please advise. is it because of bad oil? though oil level is ok. i measured it this evening after the ride but i saw one drop of oil hanging from the drain bolt under the engine. i wiped it with a cloth. tomorrow morning ill check if another drop is there... but i could feel the heat on my shin n toes so much that i felt like not riding it.

                            Hey guys,
I am a new impulse owner. Don 70km uptill now. Taking it easy, not revving it beyond 4k.
Today I got engine oil changed from my local mechanic. He was not very happy I bought this bike as he says there is a problem with the cone set bearing and steering assembly of this bike. He took a small test ride and told me that even my bike does not hold straight line when u leave both hands and also the steering is not very free. I had observed that as well but thought this was due to the high cg of this bike. My cbz classic (and all bikes according to the mech. if the setup is right) does go straight with both hands off the handle bar. Needless to say my impulse does have the Tak tak sound as well.

Point is I am ok with tak tak sound ( knew it before buying) but will have sleepless nights if the balance is not right.
Could impulse owner verify wheather their bike goes straight hands off or starts falling left/ right. I am confused wheather to get the problem sorted at service centre or my mechanic as he has repaired an impulse before.

get it repared at servicecentre. generally when they deliver bike they don't do much on your bike. But why you went for an oil change so early? oil that comes in your bike is good to use till first service. which grade oil is this?

regarding con set and steering problem i will suggest you to take it to a good ASC. there is no problem in other impulse bikes and they hold straight when both hands are taken off the steering. yes tak tak sound is something that you have to live with and that too can be reduced when taken care by a good mechanic.

Remember you own a great bike. it will always put smile on your face. So forget about that mechanic and his words that why did u buy this bike.... enjoy and welcome to the impulse club.

Check your oil level once again. If the level is fine, the oil is not the reason for the problem, considering it came from a sealed Hero-branded oil can.

It sounds to me like the problem is with adulterated fuel. Poor fuel quality leads to detonation and knocking in the engine, which will increase heat generated as well.

Your options are to drain and replace the fuel, or to dilute the existing fuel by topping up the tank with good quality fuel.

Your cones area has probably been tightened too much to combat the tak-tak sound, making the handle tighter and making you feel like the bike is pulling to one side. You need to have the cone nut loosened suitably to make the handle move freely once again. That is all, pretty straightforward and simple. One additional thing to check when you loosen the steering/cone nut: Make sure the handle is aligned straight with the forks/wheel, just like how you might have done on a cycle.

If this doesn't fix the problem of the bike pulling to one side, then your forks may be bent, you will need to get them trued if this is true, but it seems unlikely.
