If battery is completely dead push start wouldn't work.

In case of low battery or faulty charging system you can push start the bike with the ignition key in 'ON' position provided there is enough current to power the fuel pump and ECU but the engine will eventually cut out once the battery get's exhausted.

I have a vibrating / rattling noise somewhere from the front part which gets annoying at high RPMs. Also notice windscreen rattling sometimes. Took my CBR to both the ASC's in Thane (Vihaan Honda and Sai Point Honda) and none of them are able to solve it, the head mechanics have the audacity to say that "Saar every CBR vibrates like this".

Can anyone suggest a good ASC in Mumbai or Pune?

Even I had the visor vibrating. I just tightened the screws of the visor and it was gone.

I've had the same problem for a couple of months now and Abdul (the main CBR technician at Vihaan Honda) always says the same thing, "Itna toh vibration hota hi hai CBR mein."
When I was getting the muffler cover changed once, I was told to purchase the cover at their inventory counter and give it to Adbul's assistant, Amol. While trying to bolt it on, he accidentally dropped the cover on the ground, causing a small scratch on the cover. So I politely said to him (in Hindi) "Oh, it got stained?" And guess what he said! "Ye pehle se tha. Itna defect toh hota hi hai inme." I had taken a good look at the cover before handing it to him and it was absolutely spotless then. Since the mark was negligible, I didn't argue with him, yet I wish I would have told him he shouldn't have lied.
It has been really frustrating interacting with these guys out here.
Thankfully, I am moving to Bangalore in a month, hope I find a good SVC there.

Have seen few similar issues with ninja 300 and changing the bearings resolved the issue.
Thanks man.. will look into that for sure... Any idea as to how much time and money the ASC will deprive off me for replacing the steering head bearings?

I have this problem. I also spoke to service center, they have no clue as to what is causing this problem. I feel 2 possibilities.

Like chans02 stated, it could be problem with the head bearings. I used to keep my bike exposed to sun and rain for the first 1 or 2 years of owning her and at that time I did notice a stiffness in turning the handle bar left and right. From center position if you move the handle towards right, first it is tight, once you turn it significantly then it goes smoothly to the maximum limit to the right, same way to the left as well. There is an initial stiffness when you start turning from center position and once you turn a bit, then it goes smoothly. But that does not explain why this swivelling happens when braking. That is why I feel there is another reason(atleast in my case).

Even though I had this stiff head problem, I never noticed a swivelling problem. It all became noticeable only after I changed the oil and oil seal of the front shock(right) absorbers. Initially when I got the bike I used ride with the same pace as I came until I reach a speed breaker and then I slam the front and rear breaks and a part of the speed is actually reduced by the impact of the front tyre on the upper inclination of the speed breaker. But that is also pressing the front shock absorbers to the maximum. Within a few weeks of doing this, the right front shock oil started leaking. The oil used to spill on to the front disc breaks and the front brakes were useless during that time as the oil will make the callipers slip. Finally I took bike to service center and got the front(right) fork oil seal replaced and filled new oil. Now as I understand the fork oil is a kind of oil that is compressible. I fixed only the right fork. The left fork had no damage so did not open it at all. I am guessing the service guy might have filled a slightly different oil or maybe the amount of oil he poured might be slightly different from the left fork. So when the front shocks compress, the oil is compressed unevenly when comparing left fork compression and right fork compression. So that would be wobbling I experience. Also, in my case the wobbling is minor when doing hard breaking but it is very severe if I go through a gutter. The bike will wobble left right for at least 3 times before I can make it come back to steady. Now I am used to it, I haven't bothered to fix it, the service people will waste my time, my money and my bike if I give for repairing things which they cannot the fault of.

Manu I am not sure if you ever had to change the fork oil, but I am sharing my thoughts here so if someone else had the same issue and knows a solution, please share it here....

My bike had this problem. All of a sudden everything electric stopped working except starter motor and spark plug. Anything required for the bike to run was running. Other than that, horn, dials, lights everything was gone. I did not notice the radiator fan though but I was mid way of a long trip so did not care to cancel the trip and we continued. My pillion and I bought a small pocket torch and stuck it to the back of the bike using cello tape and my pillion held a bright led flashlight over my shoulder. But I was riding using the light of the street lamps as it was a highway. Anyways after the trip I went to the service center and they found the problem was with a relay. It cost me 300 rupees to get it changed. That's all.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts buddy.... And I haven't changed the fork oil (Never even knew the forks needed oil ) But yeah I'll even get the front forks checked because as I drive in Noida pretty often, those unforeseeable speed (and back) breakers are quite in abundance there... Will be getting the bike checked soon and get back to the thread.. Thanks!

P.S. Sharing your experience like you did is a nice thing to do here... Everyone can learn from each others' thoughts and experiences.. Good job man!

Sad to hear about your muffler cover. I know these people are very careless in handling our bikes that's why I prefer to change all the parts myself whenever possible. Abdul is a very lazy person, have to pester him a lot even to get basic things done. His assistant Amol seems to be a hardworking guy but doesn't have much knowledge. Abdul is least concerned about the vibrations, Amol did try to help me by putting some double sided tape under instrument panel but that was of no use. The clowns at Sai Point Panchpakhadi tightened some underbelly bolt and later dismissed the issue saying all CBRs have vibrations.

I have heard good things about Kothari Wheels Pune ASC so will probably have to go there to get this problem solved. 150 kms distance from Thane via NH4 so it will be a fun trip.

Oh, I just got back from Pune yesterday (it was my first tour). It is indeed a fun trip! Lovely roads! Would make a good getaway once in every quarter to service the bike too!

                        • Crash guard for CBR???

I have a CBR150r with me. My parents forced me and a crash guard was installed on it. Looks pretty lame(Its like teasing the bike). But the fact is that it wasn't of much help.
I was riding in the city(40-50kmph) and a dog was crossing(idioit dog)...... CRASH... The front guard was bent and my leg got caught up in it(The dog was OK- Only scratched it).
I was surprised to see that my fairing was damaged alot too. I think these crash guards are more to protect the bike rather than the rider. Are these necessary in fully faired bikes??? Or are frame sliders better??

Fully faired bike's look ugly with crash guards.

Crash guards look really crappy, but you never know when they can save you from a fracture.
From what I'm aware of, frame sliders help to protect the fairings and have slightly better looking options.
But in both cases, the impact may damage the frame of the bike as well, which affects stability, ride quality etc. and can line you up for some heavy expenditure in the long run.
That is why a lot of people, including me, would abstain from using any such protectors for the bike. It's better to change damaged fairings and cowls rather than to have to deal with a damaged chassis.
For your own protection, use proper riding gear wherever possible. Once you get used to riding with gear, it'll be difficult to ride without it!
