Of course, people have changed sprockets but not with your objectives. You obviously want to undergear it, right?
2 Xbhp members (Aparajith & one more guy) have installed a 14 teeth front sprocket of R15 and FieroF2 each, for over-gearing their RTR.

I haven't yet seen a 12 teeth front sprocket, and the 46 rear is rare too, leave alone confirming the fitment to RTR.
A 46 teeth sprocket is used in RTR 180, but Service Manual says it won't fit in RTR 160. That's it!

I suggest you talk to Joel. He lives in Bangalore and he's a genius at this work! Send him a PM...

By the way, RTR is already undergeared compared to regular bikes in the same segment. So, why do you want more under-gearing?

      • i bought a chainset from bajaj authorised svc in march

it has done only 3700 KM of normal driving, and now it is needed to change,
what could be the reason of this short life span?

i'm not using any chain cover but i clean it at regular basis

        Bike - Pulsar 180 UG1

and also i want to overgearing a bit, which sprocket setup would be nice for me

        • To increase the initial acceleration / pick-up

I am riding my GS 150 for the past 6-8 mths. it has done about 6000 kms. to increase the initial acceleration / pick-up what do you suggest, changing the front or rear sprocket?

You have to clean it by a procedure:-->

            1. First, clean the dirt/ oil/ slush using a cloth and brush..

            2. Then, apply a good quality chain spray/ liquid on the lower section of the chain while running the wheel slowly using your right hand.
I don't recommend used engine oils, but you can use them once if you have no other alternative.

Do this once a month... Check the first page of this topic for more details (I have done the same on my P180 ug3).

CAUTION: Don't do any of this, while keeping the engine running on main stand. People earlier, have lost their fingers when they got entangled in the running chain!

But, no matter how much you misuse/treat a chain, it shouldn't give up after 3700 kms. Please get things checked & adjusted from a different mechanic...
An ideal adjustment (considering rider + pillion) should allow a chain play of 35-40mm when you move the lower part of the chain vertically.

@ kb100: The 14 teeth front from Discover 135 Sports, can be used in P180 ug3. Can't say about rear.

@ santoshs: GS definitely needs some undergearing.
For undergearing, you'll have to get a smaller front sprocket OR a bigger rear sprocket, either one of these. As of now, I don't know which ones will fit your bike.

Which one will be the best setup :

              14/38T of the P-200
              14/37T of the P-220 DTS-Fi

Please suggest me a chainset other than P200 stock chain set if i want a Taller gear ?

                    • Sprocket guru's here a query for u.
MY 220 dts-fi is 1year and three months young. the odo reads 15.8k . massive city rider.

i have a wierd tendency to exploit the throttle when i see a patch of sand on the road. a small blip and the bike slides.

anyways, coming back to my problem, there is a wierd TUK TUK TUK sound from the rear sprocket. the sprocket under inspection reveals a little play when moved along the direction of rotation . ie front and back. i hear this is normal. side wards play of the sprocket is also 1mm. so that doesnt bother me. i wanna know why the sound arrises. my chain off lately is very well taken care of. but i;ve noticed the links in the chain are a little uneven due to old grease and what not. does cleaning this help or is there something wrong with the sprocket bushes inside the alloy?

                        Hi Sammy,

You can get a 14/37 teeth setup of Pulsar 220 DTS Fi (old P220).... It is a direct fit!

Additionally, Pulsar 220 DTSi's (new P220) sprocket set which is 14/36 "may" fit. I'm not sure about it... Check its fitment if possible.
                        Good luck.

Pros: Slightly better top speed & highway mileage. Less vibrations on a particular speed, as revs are lesser for each speed.
                        Cons: Less acceleration

Good luck bro. I knew about this mod from another friend, but my pc was out of order these days.

is there any 15 tooth front sprocket that will fit my Pulsar 220 DTSi?
I don't know about any such sprocket in the .520 chain pitch.
Bigger Pulsars have 14 teeth each. Karizma has 13 teeth. that's about it.

Ensure that the problem is from the chain only and not other components like rear disc, etc.

Secondly, ensure that you chain is properly lubricated. The Probiking guys just use old engine oil to lubricate the chain. This is WRONG!
That old oil may lubricate but its a dust magnet. And the dust which sticks on it, can cause this sound.

Get a "Chain Spray" from a good brand, clean your chain using water & cloth. Wipe using a dry cloth. Then apply the chain spray.

As per my interactions & experience, 15.8k is not the time to replace chain sprockets, unless you misused the bike heavily...

hey!! the sound is from either the front sprocket or the rear.Never have i seen the PBk guys use old oil. i have bought my chain cleaner and chain spray the day i bought my bike. No heavy abusing either. will look into it once i open up the sprocket cover.

                          • please help me.

                            Hi guy...
i am having a avenger 200 oilcooled model with odo of 4k.
i want to tall gear it desperately, its stock is 14 front 38 rear with chain pitch of 520.
also the rear sprocket is having 6 mounting holes. I have enquired following
                            1. As a change in front sprocket will have more effect on gear ratio i searched for 15 or 16 tooth front sprocket but i was unable to find one with 520 pitch (please suggest if you know any).
                            2. Rear sprocket of pulsar 220 dtsi will do( 36t) but what about mounting holes will they match?
                            3. And lastly can we get a custom made sprocket from somewhere?

                            Please reply.....

Guys, one of my friend told that changing sprokets in any bike give better acceleration and top end... and i searched in xbhp and finally found this thread...

Well, coming to the point.., i have P150 ug3.. i want better initial acceleration than present and i am not bothered abt top end since mine is restricted to city driving. Now which sprocket should i change ?? front or rear and what ratio ?? pls help ..

Also, expecting clear and detailed explanation as i am new to "World of Sprockets! "

                              • I own a 2010 Stunner.

I don't know how many teeth it has in front or rear.

I just want to reduce the vibrations that creep in after 60 Kmph.

I am ready to sacrifice the initial acceleration a little if it increases the top end and helps reduce the vibrations...

                                Suggestions?

PS: I would prefer if the mod doesn't involve a chain change and doesn't cost too much. Any direct fits?
Signals which are timed for 50 Kmph are also timed for 100 Kmph :)
