I am Maneesh Joshi from Pune.

I have a 10 year old Pulsar 150 - the very first model, wire wheels, round headlight, analog instruments. The front spkt is 14 teeth, 2 holes and rear is 42 teeth, 2 holes. Chain is 114 links, pitch of .428

I am a tourer and need low revs on the highway. Last Sunday, I did a Nasik and back trip to check out my bike for the forthcoming trip to Leh in July. She was doing exactly 60 kph at 4K rpm and 70 kph at 5K rpm with a total load of about 120 kgs.

Any suggestions for overgearing only the front sprocket by about 2 teeth? Let me explain. In mountains, I would prefer the low gearing of the stock setup to enable comfortable climbing while in the plains, the high gearing would ease cruising. Also, it is much easier to change the front than the rear, as all of us on this thread know.
Try fitting the Pulsar 180/ 150 UG3's 15T front sprocket like lijok suggested. On the first page of this topic, you can see its image in my post. That might help you.

16T sprockets are a rarity. Below 40T sprockets are also pretty rare.

Moreover, let me tell you that I tried 3 teeth less at the rear (which is somewhat equal to 1 teeth in front). On highways, it was fun as I could cruise around 85 @ 6000rpm with good torque there. Within the city, I was just doing WWE with the gear lever...

I wouldn't recommend 16T even if it was a modified bike, because its quite old now. Heavily modifying it for top speed isn't worth it.

    • Please suggest me some 15T front sprocket which is a direct fit in Cbz xtreme. And what would be the approx cost of it?
First think you are special then work towards proving it.

Try the front sprocket of Unicorn. it's 15 teeth.

However, I'm not sure if it's a direct fit...I think it should be since Unicorn and CBZ share the same engine...

Bought Pulsar's 15T. Direct fit in FZ too.

            • I wonder if people are using this web-site to simulate and assess on-line, different sprocketing combinations for their bikes. The site has almost all Indian bikes on its database and saves lots of guesswork and calculations.

The Unicorn's front sprocket (15 T) is also a direct fit on the Stunner (stock 14 T). I'm using the Unicorn's 15T sprocket on my Stunner for the past 3-4 months and have had no problems..

You can also update the "Direct Fits" section with this info.

I am looking for a 14 teeth front sprocket for my Karizma, ...which bike's 14 teeth will suit the ZMA?

I am not sure about a suitable 14 tooth front sprocket for the ZMA (maybe the one from Honda Shine though the chain pitch would differ in all probability.) Almost similar gearing can be obtained by using a 38 tooth rear sprocket from the P-200. Of course using the 14 tooth up front would give still taller gearing comparatively.

                      • Today I installed the 15T gear sprocket on my JRTR192 which comes with a stock 14T gear sprocket. 15T gear sprocket is of the UG3 Pulsar as I learned from this thread. Thank you guys.
Few tips though - buy a sprocket holder ring and the nuts to suit, as the stock ones do not match the Pulsars sprocket...

Result - the awesome acceleration of the joelled RTR180 has faded away... but still good. Top end.. well, yet to hit the open highway, but I noticed that 100kmph is reached in top gear at a shade below 7k rpm mark.

First I got confused about this "JRTR192"! But then I paid attention and found that it was Joelled RTR 192cc, which was 180cc I guess.
Thanks for updating the tips, I'll update my first post.

Thank you so much Sir, its a very useful link. I have added it to my first post. Often when all things are changed together, tyres, both sprockets, then it is very useful.

For overgearing the Karizma, you can try 14 teeth front sprockets from P220, P200, etc. They all have the .520 Chain Pitch. Their rear sprockets are interchangeable so I think maybe front sprockets should be too.

Your Stock Gearing is 40/13= 3.076
If you keep 38 teeth rear of P200, the new gearing would be 38/13= 2.923.
If you use 14 teeth front, it would be 40/14= 2.857.

Using 14 teeth front would have slightly more overgearing, although a difference this small can be ignored.

Negative. The shaft of ZMA design is different from the Pulsar's. So 14T of P200/220 wont fit into ZMA.

Only option to taller the gear is to change the rear sprockets to P200/220DTSFi/220DTSi which has 38/37/36T's respectively.

Else you will have to get the front sprocket made. (I donno how and who does it).

Or if you are with 428 chain pitch then replace entire chain set to Unicorn's (15/43) or Old CBZ's (14/46) etc.

Thanks for updating. So, while chain pitch is the same, the 14T front sprocket doesn't fit due to the shaft, ok.

I had a doubt regarding this, that's why I never updated the first post with this option.

I think it would be best to get a 38 or 37 teeth rear for roughly the same gearing as a 14 up front.

guys quick question. My city is out of Stock on Stock ZMA Chain Sprocket.
What are the other options P180/200/220 ? or Unicorn
I don't mind if performance loss/gain - No one priority is to get the wheels rolling as soon as possible

Appreciate a quick response , I cant wait to fix this... Than you!
