Changed the setup on my 15/46 .520 pitch Hyosung Gt250R to 13/46. The gearshift feels much smoother and the acceleration is significantly improved. Also the engine feels 'happier'

Which is better, changing front or rear sprocket?
I have pulsar 180. I read in the intro page that for undergearing, duke 200 and for overgearing, p220. Has anyone done it?

First if all, what do you want ? Overgearing or undergearing ?

          Ride safe and have fun.

I want both. Short gearing for city and long for highways. As i don't go on highways often, swapping wouldn't be an issue

My bike is 22000 kms old now and most probably it will require a new chain set after some time and this time I am looking to overgear it for slightly better top speed and more relaxed cruising. It will improve mileage also by little margin because bike will be able to attain higher speed at lower rpms. I am looking for some inputs from you guys. Please advice me if somebody have some knowledge or experience related to the same. Its default setup is 14T front and 42T rear. Unicorn's front 15T will be a direct fit or I should go with fz's rear rear 40T...??

Has anybody tried a 15T sprocket at the front.I opened it yesterday and found the default setup itself to be a very tight fit. Dont know if it can take a 15T sprocket.

If i want to switch to 40T Karizma sprocket at the rear..should i buy the karizma chain as well or use the Duke's chain itself? In am trying this to make the duke more relaxed and highway friendly.

I plan to under gear my 200 NS 16/45. does anyone have info on what bikes have compatible sprockets in either 428 or 520 pitch? The KTM rear now has a compatible 6 hole pattern I am told (as of 2015). Or if there are after market sprockets available?
                  Thanks.
edit, ktm is not the same, even the six hole version.

Owner of hero honda cd deluxe 2009 model stock 14/44T I have been doing research today and I am getting Bajaj boxer chain whole sprocket set of Rs 530 with 13/47 teeths as this will fulfill my all needs of increasing acceleration but I stopped from buying because of fear of unfit of front sprcket & rear sprocket on wheel hub of hero honda cd deluxe although no. of holes for sprocket fitting are same of both front 2 holes & rear sprocket 4 holes. Please help whether they will fit on hero honda cd deluxe?

Hi, This is my first post here. I ride Apache RTR 160 and planning to try out sprocketing. I have few questions.

In the initial posts, it is said that when changing gear ratio with sprocketing, one should not go beyond 6% change on stock motor.
Why this figure of 6%? if the rider knows his driving style and never red-lines or goes into knocking zone, it is ok if one goes higher, say 12%? if one goes beyond the said 6%, what could be the expected damage?

I went through sprocket combos of few bikes from same category. FZ using 14/40 vs 13/44 of RTR despite having BHP and torque figures quite close (in fact RTR has marginally better power and torque but much lower gear ratio). Hunk/CBZ xtreme has 14/43. Now if I change to 14/43 like Hunk or 14/40 like FZ, it is well beyond 6% limit.

100-110 CC bike like TVS Star City uses 13/41. How does it handle such a gear ratio despite having low BHP and torque?

I went through many pages but could not find answer to these questions. If someone has already answered this, please redirect me to the appropriate page.

Answering a part of your question.
All these vehicles have different transmission ratios other than the sprocket ratios (Primary ratio & gear ratio) and an optimum blend is chosen for balanced performance and efficiency.

                        • World of Sprockets!

Hey guys, It's been nearly 1.4 years with my r15 V2 and I've completed 21k Kms so far. 95% driven on the highways for long rides. I'm not a great fan of acceleration and hence I just end up cruising at around 75kph at 5k rpm all day. Has anybody tried over gearing their R15 V2? I don't want an increase in the top speed but just want a decent enough cruising speed at the same rpm range of 5k-6k. Tried gear commander and the gains were decent with the loss of acceleration when compared with bigger rear(driven)and smaller front(drive) sprockets. Given that the bike has a 15T drive sprocket and a 47T driven sprocket, What could be altered? The 42T rear sprocket of the V1? or a bigger drive sprocket? Or both? Help would be much appreciated![emoji4]

Here are the readings that were found while experimenting.

                            1. Stock Sprocket Setup.

I believe that there is some kind of error since the bike does 75kph at 5k rpm in 6th gear but on this site, it shows 72kph. Let's keep an error of 3kph.

                            2. Rear 42T setup.

At 5k rpm, the bike should be doing 83kph, adding the error of 3kph.

                            3. Rear 40T setup.

Now it's 88kph with the error corrected.

All these seem pleasing but I have no idea of how much I am going to struggle in even moving the bike from standstill. Here are a few more interesting stats that I came across.

                            Gear-Rpm charts.

                            1. Stock 47T

                            2. 42T

                            3. 40T

And finally the comparative analysis of the 6th gear in all the 3 Setups.

                            1. At the M.P RPM (Max Power RPM)

                            2. Concentrating much on the 5k RPM range since I'm in need of a relaxed cruising setup.

That's it. These are what I came up with. Do correct if I have done any mistakes and all I can do now is wait for your valuable suggestions. [emoji4]

Try a 16/45 gear ratio with a 428 chain and see what you think in the calculator.
