Re: World of Sprockets!
You can try Bajaj New CT-100 sprocket which is 14T sorry I could not find any 15T sprockets having the same pitch and fitment holes. Pulsar 150/180's front sprocket may fit, though the chain pitch is minutely different.Originally posted by DebayanS View PostI am back!

Re: World of Sprockets!
Hello friends
After reading some posts here ,I got courage to do some sprocket ing on my pulsar 220 dtsi 2012 model
Currently it has 14/36 sprocket s
I want good touring speed ,currently it does 63 kmph @ 4000rpm
If I change the front sprocket to 15T what will be the effect???
Any direct fit 15t sprocket ??

Re: World of Sprockets!
It will make the gearing slightly longer and you would be able to attain speeds at lower rpm's than before. The ride would be relaxed at higher speeds. (to a small extent)Originally posted by vvk1987 View PostIf I change the front sprocket to 15T what will be the effect???
For direct fits, it must be somewhere in this thread.
Search for it.
Also, don't read 'some' posts, go throught this thread and know what changes are felt by the members who have done this mod.
Ride safe and have fun.

To gain top speed either we need to increase the number of teeth of front sprocket or reduce the teeth of rear sprocket.Originally posted by vvk1987 View PostIf I change the front sprocket to 15T what will be the effect???
I have changed rear sprocket of my P150 to HH Ambition's 38 teeth sprocket. P150's stock setup was 15/44. Before sprocketing i was getting 50kmph@4000RPM. Now i'm getting 60kmph@4000RPM. Previously my top speed was 108kmph, now its arround 120kmph(could get more as i have not tested countinuosly)
I feel really good when i go on highways. But it creates a problem when riding in city traffic due to longer gearing and some lag in accelaration.
So be aware that though it will incease your top speed but on the other side it will decrease the accelaration.Last edited by parag.warke; 02-02-2014, 01:58 AM.

Increasing one teeth up front would have the same effect of decreasing three teeths on the rear sprocket.Originally posted by parag.warke View PostNice explanation nadz11.ns

No Aditya, chain velocity doesn't anyway alter the rotational characteristics of the shaft to the wheel, but more velocity means the adjuster goes back even for a new sprocket, for which you need to lessen chain velocity by reducing the links!Originally posted by Aditya N Bharadwaj View PostI thought chain velocity has nothing to do with acceleration as long as the ratio is optimal. I.e for example d200 has 42/14=3.00 and my 200NS has 39/13=3.00 (stock NS has a 39/14). Obviously due to bigger rear sprocket on the duke, the chain velocity is greater. What effect does that have?

A 15T sprocket will help the engine cruise at a relaxed pace than at a revved pace. Though the front is cheaper to change than the rear.Originally posted by vvk1987 View PostHello friends

Re: World of Sprockets!
There are many bikes that have stock 15 teeth including our 150 and 180 not sure if the fitment and washer plate will suit it, but you can ask them at your local PBK or just by inquiring them would it fit on a Pulsar 220, if it does, then go for it. Again fiddling with front is far better than fiddling at the rear.Originally posted by vvk1987 View PostSearched in automobiles shop today ,got the 15 T(old pulsar 150) but it doesn't fit in chain properly

Checked it ,old 150&180 have 15T but their chain is regular chain not O ring type so the current O ring chain didn't fit even 20% on itOriginally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostThere are many bikes that have stock 15 teeth including our 150 and 180 not sure if the fitment and washer plate will suit it, but you can ask them at your local PBK or just by inquiring them would it fit on a Pulsar 220, if it does, then go for it. Re: World of Sprockets!
I would like to add some clarification. Regarding P220 incompatible with 15T of P150, it has absolutely nothing to do with O Ring Chain at all... It has more to do with chain pitch.Originally posted by vvk1987 View PostChecked it ,old 150&180 have 15T but their chain is regular chain not O ring type so the current O ring chain didn't fit even 20% on it

Most bikes (P150, P180 UG3, Discover, Splendor, etc.) are on chain .428 pitch (4/8th of an inch).
P220, Karizma, P200, P180 UG4, etc. are on .520 chain pitch (5/8th of an inch).
See the example of chain pitch below:

So, obviously 15T won't fit because its teeth gaps are made for .428 pitch and NOT .520 pitch.
There is just one rule: The chain pitch of Front sprocket, rear sprocket & Chain MUST BE SAME in any case for it to work. See the comparison of .428 vs .520 and another chain pitch in reality:

Watching the above image closely, you will see how .520 chain pitch has different teeth gaps compared to a .428 one.
Coming to your choices about your P220, sad to say but there's no proper known option for a P220's overgearing in .520 chain pitch.
You might have to consider downgrading to .428 pitch complete, which may help a lot with gearing choices.
Maybe some imported bike parts dealers might get you a custom .520 pitch sprocket that has a fitment to match.---

This is one of Legendary threads on Xbhp and has helped me gain a lot of knowledge regarding Sprockets.
Thanks a lot Samarth 619 for creating this valuable thread, and jotting down all the good knowledge.

Re: World of Sprockets!
O ring doesn't mean a chain will be a fit not not a fit. The pitch is all that matters, to keep it simple, a smaller sprocket will handle wider pitched chains (to specific sizes) but a wider sprocket will only fit a wider spec chain. O-rings are there for lubrication purposes, and that doesn't really correspond to a sprocket change job.Originally posted by vvk1987 View PostChecked it ,old 150&180 have 15T but their chain is regular chain not O ring type so the current O ring chain didn't fit even 20% on it

My 220's has 14/36 stock setup and CBR is 14T Front Sprocket / 38T rear, two tooth more than the Pulsar 220 which aids in low end pickup,

Beautifully complied, Sam as always. Just one snippet, most people can do is undergear their 220, or unless if someone who has good enough lathe job experience or persons who do aftermarket sprockets who can add one or more teeth to the front sprocket (which is cheaper) But again, Sam pretty much nailed it!
Cheers!

Re: World of Sprockets!
Guys,
Easy overgearing on .520 for the Pulsar 220, is still a mystery we couldn't solve. But I think we might have a way out soon...
Earlier, I was told that the Duke 390 has a 14/45 setup on .520 pitch, through various reviewers. That may be the 2013 version, or maybe the test bikes before the launch. But now, the KTM India website lists 2014 Duke 390's sprocket kit as 15/45 on .520 pitch. See below:-
KTM exists and operates around a philosophy of being READY TO RACE. KTM develops motorcycles that are tuned and ready to line up on the starting grid, right out of the box, without any modifications.
This front sprocket of the new 2014 Duke 390, may or may not fit the Pulsar 220. Can anyone try to fit it?
Your try may give a data, that other bikers can use for years as I will update this in Post#1 of this topic, with credits.
Meanwhile, I'll also try to get myself a worn Duke 390 front sprocket from Probiking... And I can compare fitment with my P180, as its front sprocket mounting is quite similar to P220.---
