Thanks for bringing that up. While you should never say no to safety. I personally never felt brakes were inadequate. I did have couple of close calls during initial phase of ownership, however, it is down to how well you understand the bike, her dynamics and her braking ability. I have had instances where I had to loose speed quick to avoid a crash, and the brakes did their job well.

If I were to buy a bike today, I would still choose Ninja over the competition. My eyes are on Z800 now for the next upgrade, but that can only happen if my family agrees, which at the moment is a very tough task.

my thought in bold. whatever it has, and if other bike has abs, i got lean towards that. all because game is on Indian streets. Z 800 is still costly, atleast to me. may be we can expect a 600 from ktm or honda, under 5 lakhs...

and i was surprised to see yamaha R1 has no abs but has traction control. well as to me, i can ride without abs, but at the end of the day its a peace of mind.

Not until 2017. And definitely not below 6 lacs.Market in India is not so big to warrant setting up manufacturing unit for i4 engines and related components. Plus stringent quality levels to manufacture an i4. No body sets up a unit for 20-30 pieces a month. Thats a more optimistic figure.People dreaming of cb650 to be priced below 6 lacs, i wud say All The Best. I sincerely hope I am proved wrong.
By the way Duke 690 is at the end of its life cycle. Ktm has planned to replace D690 by a twin cylinder engine of 800 cc. There are also talks of a 500 cc twin cylinder on same platform. In other words, its not coming so soon as expected.

              Had a Small Incident yesterday,
I was riding to office in the morning. The signal in front of me was Green and I was bit far away from the signal and almost at the speed of 60- 80 KMPH (May be my fault I should nt have been in this speed). All of a sudden the signal lights turn to be Yellow. Now I decided not to cross now so Made a Hard brake. and after that I noticed a few things.

              1. Felt like 60 KMPH to 0 stopping distance was bit longer than expected.
              2. Felt like The Brakes are not Biting the Disk it was smooth when applied didn't feel any jerk since i use to ride Pulsar 180 UG3 the disk is bit hard in that.
              3. The way it handles the mass Centralization Factors was really awesome. It made the stop with out any sliding to left or right.
              4. It burnt a lot of rubber compared to my previous bike.

And I have a question after this incident.
Do every Ninja 300 Owner feels that the brakes are bit softer? or is it problem only with my bike. I took it to the service center during my First service and said them the same. But they said every thing is fine. But Still I am not Comfortable with the brakes.

but cant we hope that as usual Indian market is dumped with last pieces...be it mobiles, tyres, etc... So maybe ktm will give D690 atleast for a year before they stop it.

Hi Vivek...I too commute to office daily on Ninja. My daily commute is total 60 KMs. Kindly have the brake pads checked and replaced. In just 4000 KMs my brake pads have just 500- 1000 KMs more life in them. Braking because of that I have realised has taken a slight hit. I plan to get the pads replaced this weekend.

Any idea where we can source EBC brake pads in Mumbai? Stock pads are not bad. They give a good feedback. But it seems they dont last long. Could also be because of my riding style. I would also recommend to check the tyres. My front tyres are lacking bite. It washes away very quick. I plan to get them replaced with Michelins before monsoon next year.

An update. Replaced rear and front brake pads with stock pads at 4000 Kms. Braking is back to normal. I do not remember the exact cost of the pads.

Also got myself a pair of Alpinestar SMX-6 boots, and Alpinestar riding gloves.

Looking for a replacement to my LS2 helmet, something that is lighter and has a wider range of vision.

The ones that I checked THH, HJC Kyt are either heavier or range of vision is nowhere as wide as I want.

I loved Nolan helmets I saw at Planet DSG. I may probably pick one of those.

Any suggestions regarding helmets is most welcome.

Ahh!!! that is because mechanic was struggling to remove the pads from calipers. He used a screwdriver to bring them out, hence the craters.
