Has anyone of you installed an aftermarket ABS kit on their N300.??
I was planning to upgrade to a N300 from a D200, currently. But the lack of ABS is holding me back.

Which is the aftermarket abs available ? If you are talking about mechanical abs, then its as good as s**t. Someone has tried the duke abs on Ninja. But it requires duke alloys, discs, cables, sensors and anything and everything. But I don't think the 300 requires abs here. Its breaking is perfect, but again abs is an added advantage. I would suggest you to wait till the abs version gets introduced rather than going for aftermarket ones.
Ride, ride and ride.. But always do it responsibly..

Any inside info from the dealers or SVC managers about the ABS version of the 300? There's no info on the news except rumors, Considering the US spec Ninja 300, the difference between the ABS and Non-ABS version is just $500, I hope the price difference here in India would be the same..

^^^ you want ABS, then wait till the Government mandates it on all bikes. The proposal is in the pipeline and will be initiated with bikes above 200cc if I recall correctly. Kawasaki will have no choice but to bring in the ABS version.

Personally, I do not prefer the ABS as the brakes are not as sharp as the non ABS ones. But once the choice is out of picture it will not matter I suppose.

IMHO, this holds good only in wet/gravel conditions. For dry patches, the stopping distance would be similar if not same.

Yea, even I read the news, but it was 125CC and above. I don't want to buy the Non-ABS version now just to regret it 6 Months later to find an ABS version parked next to my Non-ABS Ninja some day...

A little off topics here but I am surprised in a very good way to find that there are people who agree for more feel of braking and improving skills as a biker than rely on electronics stuff that might fail anytime.
I don't like ABS as they rob the feel and learning from me. I have more control over the throttle, I am more into reading the riding conditions and I learn the braking capabilities of my bike better.

I agree with Sir. Lack of ABS is not a deal breaker atleast on ninja. The amount of feedback you get is enormous. Plus, braking is an art and before you learn to ride fast you should learn to brake. Which is possible with the current setup I have on my Ninja.

My friend disables ABS on his RC390 every time he rides. But yes, for somebody who is new to biking and does not have enough experience with panic braking, ABS is a life savior.

I have a question for all.
Does ABS kick in every time a lever is pressed hard or only when the wheels are about to lock? Asking because I've never braked hard on an ABS equipped vehicle.
If it's only when the wheels are about to lock, how's the experience different from a standard vehicle?

Sent from my phone. Kindly avoid it while riding.

As per my limited experience, it only kicks-in when the tyres are about to lock, irrespective of how hard you press the lever. If you press you lever hard and release the brakes immediately, the ABS does not kick-in. I don't know about the experience most guys are talking about, but, what I have gathered from riders going for regular track-days is that without the abs, they have a finer control on their bikes speed. It allows them to brake quickly, at a shorter distance from the corner, so as to extract maximum speed before they have to slow-down. This gives the best riders a very huge .1 -.3 sec difference at every corner.
I know that after reading a lot of stuff on the internet about effective braking, some of us think we know better than an electronic chip, but the fact of the matter is that due to the road conditions and basic lack of traffic sense in India, its foolish to think that one would never have to do panic braking - and in case of panic braking nothing keeps you safer than a certain chip present in bike for this particular scenario.

Amit, your concern is valid, however, we sitting on our computers do not know the level of rider others are. So, yes, it is true a chip saves lives, but lets not raise a finger on the level of others.

If somebody says he/she has experience of panic braking, lets just give him/her benefit of doubt.

Oh I it was never my intention to point a finger on the level of others, sorry it came out that way. All I wanted to say was that, learning to brake is all well and good when riding in a controlled environment, but, on Indian roads filled with pot holes, debris, animals and lots of vehicles going without any traffic sense, it is prudent to have a safety net; after all there is a limit to what every person can do and its impossible to take into account each and every factor every time.

I'll tell you why I feel ABS "should" be present on bikes.
As AmitRavi07 said, it may irritate riders on the race track. But how many kilometers do our bikes do on one? ABS is fine for our roads.
Under panic braking, an expert rider may stop his non ABS bike in say 200 feet, ABS would do in similar figures (max within 250 feet) in dry conditions.
Under panic braking, you have an option to STEER away from danger.

Let me provide 2 examples for the same:
1. I met with an accident last year on the BLR-HYD highway. I'd say I run over a dog which was crossing the road (rather than saying it hit me). I was doing 85-90 kmph or so.
I braked to whatever speed I could without locking the front and yet I couldn't steer away completely from it! Took me 4 months to recover fully.
ABS *may* have provided me an opportunity to steer away while not worrying about the wheels locking!

P.S - Just like the ABS chip, your brake's master cylinders can fail too. Any time!

2. I and plasmabhai were on a trip to the western ghats. During one of our photo breaks, we saw a D390 rider approach the road real fast. A Swift/Ritz was inching towards the road. The Duker slammed the brakes and we heard it! That pumping action of ABS. He shed a lot of speed as well as steered away.

These 2 incidents have at least in my mind put ABS as a valid life saver. You maybe a good rider, but the other who wants to crash into you maybe not.

Divya, there is no controversy. No one is taking it away from ABS. Yes, they save lives. I ride with a lot of new riders. Fortunately they have ABS. And I have seen them being safe in situations where I had crashed during my early days.

But, having said that, few like me, try and improve our riding every time we are on the saddle. And it is those incidents in the past that have have taught me how to brake effectively and how to respond to situations.

There have been numerous such incidents where my experience helped me and my bike come out unharmed.

1. A truck immediately changing from right most lane to left most lane on a 6 lane highway while I am on 120.

2. Autowalas deciding to take that immediate turn without any signal in the city.

3. People coming all of a sudden infront of you on a National Highway, or on a ghat section.

4. Front just washing away under hard front braking.

The thing, is I have paid a huge price in the past, however, it has also taught me lot of valuable lessons (like staying super calm in panic situation, use of engine braking, steer), which would not have been possible if i had aided brakes.
