these two are my options that's it

im a student and a daily commuter
and travel nearly 20kms a day and once in a bluemoon highway rides

im not here to start any war between the two
        i just want some suggestions
as i cant test drive either of the bikes as they as available at showroom but not for test ride

sat on both the bikes ,
        fell in love with ninja

and lastly the mileage and any niggles with the ninja 300

so what can i expect from ninja 300 ?

and there is no waiting period for ninja 300 in my city i can go and pick the bike and ride back home after the payment

        so fellow ninja owners
please share ur views on the bike

        thanking u in advance
        Hi buddy,

I own a Ninja 300 for past 1+ month (1200+ KMs). This is my first bike, I literally learnt to ride on her. And my so far experience is great.

Engine is butter smooth almost no vibrations over the whole rev range if you ride her after a good warm up. (I had revved her just across 10K mark).

Never found her heavy in delhi traffic, she is just 172+ kgs on paper never between your legs!! And good amount of usable power and torque available down from 2K rpm. But sure she will not be as flickable as duke200 (and also duke390 as they are to share the same chassis).

Pretty stable at 100+ kmph. Not at all scary. You can feel her saying "This is nothing dude!! I can make all these girls on road to bite my dust!!". Not tiring either. I had done a ride at Noida - Greater Noida expressway corridor and she ran without breaking a sweat. Feel like overtaking, just signal, look, and slightly open your throttle!! Vroooom.

Handling I felt is top notch(Lol !! I had hardly ridden a bike before, you could ask me how can I rate this ... Hmm... Just from the confidence that the bike inspires in me to hangout clinging the tank without backing off the throttle when I approach a right angled corner in dilli roads with the 60Kmph on the speedo)

You might find seating a bit aggressive as compared to more upright one on dukes.

A large 17L tank will quench your touring thirst easily. Mileage I think it would vary from 20 - 30 kmpl depending on how you break in your engine.

        Looks!! Should I say anything??

VFM -- Hmm it has loads of technology. Slipper clutch had saved me once in my initial stages of learning how to ride. And that acceleration, that rush, that taste of adrenaline in the tongue... I feel she is worth every paisa. She will also be worth every paisa that you would invest on her maintenance in future.

Mileage -- Sorry never cared about that.

Conclusion : She is the best what 3.9L(approx) can buy for me.

Some of the key deciding points that made me choose Ninja 300 over duke390:
        1. My first bike -- wanted a bike that is both forgiving, on which I can learn and hone my riding skills and aggressive when demanded. Felt 390 less forgiving than Ninja.
        2. Sports bike -- This narrowed my decision pretty quickly. As I wanted a sports bike.
        3. Inclination towards touring -- 17L tank, lower compression ratio of the engine allowing you to use the normal petrol that is available all over India.(vs 11L tank and high compression ratio)
        4. Ease of cruising at high speeds -- Faired, so protective against wind blast.
        5. Ninja. -- Full stop, that's it as it is an adjective for reliability, quality, technology, advancement, speed, enjoyment and list goes on.

This is just a so far experience from a newbie rider. You can just use them as a guide.

Go by what your heart says!! Love your bike, you will never regret buying any of the two!!

All the best !! Cheers!! Ride safe!!

DONT BE CONFUSED, IF YOU CAN AFFORD THE NINJA GO FOR IT WITH YOUR EYES CLOSED.
Well i have been riding one for the past one month now have already done 2000 Kms on it , so lets put some facts for the prospective buyers:

          1. The machine is a CKD unit and none of the parts are made in India, Duke on the other hand has parts sourced from Bajaj and is being made in India hence cheaper. The quality of parts being used is already questionable.
          2. I have driven it in bumper to bumper traffic with out any problems , in the city it handles and performs comfortably as a daily commuter bike. And it has been returning a constant FE of 30Kmpl.
          3. The 390 looks just like the 200 except for the decals, and since you already have the 200 you might not visulally upgrade from the 200.
          4. 300 or 390 with a few Bhp here and there wont make much of a difference when you ride sensibally with out trying to race other commuters on the road, and more so its neither advisable or safe to do so on our roads.
          5. Touring is comfortable as i have already done 4 stints of 300kms each apart from taking it for a spin in the mountains of Himachal.
          6. And surely its a head turner where ever it goes.

THE BEST PART IS THAT YOU CAN KEEP YOUR 200 AND OWN A NINJA AS WELL: BEST OF BOTH THE WORLDS

The problem is I can't test drive either of the bikes

            I already used duke 200
And wanted a smoother engine this time
So I'm more inclined towards ninja

I just want some ownership experience from fellow owners

And congratulations abhi for ur white ninja
Thanks man... Ok, here are some facts: a multi cylinder engine will always be more smoother than a single cylinder thumper (even if it has a counter balancer). This is a fact. At the same time there are certain trade offs... for example, its more expensive (more parts) to make and maintain. These are facts that are universally applicable to all IC engines.

Now coming to the specific question of the Duke or the Ninja... quite frankly, the initial cost of almost Rs. 4 lacs makes the Ninja somewhat of a elitist machine. You wont find too many of them on the road (till date I have seen only 2 of them). On the other hand the Duke is very reasonably priced and there will quite few of them on the road within a short span of time. The Ninja is expensive as it is CKD assembled from 98% imported parts whereas the Duke is 'manufactured' by Bajaj with quite a bit of indigenous parts content to the bike, thus keeping the initial pricing low. The same facts will also be applicable for the pricing of spares. The Ninja parts pricing is to say politely 'expensive' (its daylight robbery in my opinion). While Kawasaki has give a wishy washy statement saying they are 'exploring' increasing indigenous content, I wouldn't hold my breath for it. You have mentioned that you already have a Duke 200, so your experience with the bike and its servicing will be a good indicator of how the bigger Duke will be for the same.

The Ninja 300's servicing experience is not going to deviate much from the Ninja 250's. The servicing schedule is identical and many parts are shared. So go through the Ninja 250 ownership thread to get a idea of what you are looking forward to in terms of servicing if you select a 300.

And the showroom already has both the colours on display so I can go pick it up and drive back home anytime I wish

Hello bikers, myself vishnu from cochin. Booked and paid advance for the 300 last saturday at the cochin pro biking and they have promised to deliver the bike within 2 weeks time, in the mean time I would like to get a few inputs regarding what all accessories, I mean really useful accessories I can get for my little greenie. Frame sliders and tank pads are already under consideration, but im in doubt regarding which brand should I opt, the brand is not important, I would like to know which one will do the purpose of a frame slider best and so is the tank pad case. Please suggest me the brands I can opt. And is there any other accessory which I should go for ? And regarding keeping the bike free from scratches please give your valuable inputs, thanking in advance

                              Hey guys

I'm here with a bad news

                              For some reasons
I decided not to pick up the ninja

I was confused whether to pick It up or not
And finally decided to go for it
And somehow I decided not to go either with D390 or N300
                              Due to some reasons

But once again thank u all
                              For ur valid responses

                              Cheers
                              Happy riding

I booked my Kawasaki ninja 300 pearl stardust white on Rathjatra... Scheduled to be delivered on August 2, 2013. feeling excited.

                                ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

As per my plan I am gonna ride the bike 1000km in 4-5 days, so that I can bring it my current place (around 470km from Kolkata) after first service. Now should I use mineral oil for first service?
Also, is there any 10w-40 mineral oil available or I go with 20w-40?
