  • Ninja 300 Automatic engine shutdown

    Hello Riders!!

Today I faced some problems with my Ninja 300. I was stuck in a gruesome traffic today morning as I was on my regular commute to my office. The engine killed itself after a while. Thought that it might be some intelligent ECU work to prevent over heating of the engine, as I remember that it was idlingfor about 5mins. After few seconds, I started her up, revved up and zoomed past the traffic. But after about a km, I had to stop a bit aggressively. I was braking and down-shifting almost simultaneously. When I dropped to the first gear the engine killed again. This happened again when I slowed down again near my office, and it was not so aggressive.

Whenever this automatic engine kill occurs, I takes me atleast 3-5secs to bring her back to life.

I had done close to 780 KMS on the odo so far. 1st service due on 1000KMS. I did her regular warm-up for 2 mins after the cold -start.

Any experiences or suggestions are welcome. Experienced riders please help this noob here ....

    Thanks in Advance!!

yeah I too hope so!! But only thing that tingles my mind is that the next time when the engine shut-down happened after a nice 5+ KM ride where I was cruising 60+ kmph comfortably. So I guess the engine would have cooled down back to its optimum running temperature by then. And this is the first time I am facing any issue with her. Now I am yet to ride back home for today So will check if the problem persist even now !!

I would suggest you to check if the fans are working. Just listen closely the next time you take her out. Also take a look at the coolant level.

My 2 bits as I'm no pro either...

^^^ if the temperature idiot light is not coming on then its not overheating. I suspect bad fuel. It is also possible that while filling fuel, water swept into the tank if it was exposed to rainfall.

This happened to me once more .. but just once more. Think I will wait as my first service is also nearing(850+ on the Odo), and will bring this to notice of the bajaj guys.

Got the Ride On Tire Protection Treatment done over the weekend. A 10 minute job literally, but peace of mind for the duration of the tyre's life time. Have had this treatment done on my R15 and can vouch that it works as advertised. Total cost for 2 tires was Rs. 1,900/-. Was impressed by their approach. Actually they are the guys who supply to dealers like Planet DSG, Bacchus etc. They are the wholesale suppliers for India and South Asia for Alpinestar and Progrip products. So its worth checking them out as they are cheaper than the outlets for obvious reasons. And my latest addition is a pair of all leather gloves from Kaulsons and a pair of oneal MX boots from US.
How much for shoes & gloves respectively ?

I got my first service done on 4th July at 1150 Kms on the clock. The total cost was Rs. 3900/-

I dont have the bill right now, but from what I remember I got charged for:

2.2L of Motul 300V Factoryline 10W40 engine oil
                              Coolant top up
                              Chain diesel wash
                              Labour charge

Well, here's a pic of my Serenity with new rim pinstripes

PRS sells them for 1200/- which I think is crazy and not practical. I got almost similar rim pinstripes from a sticker work guy in Mumbai Central for Rs. 300/- and he also gave me a word that if the stripes come off soon he would put new ones free of cost (But, the quality of stickers is really great and I am sure they wont come off anytime soon)

                              Presenting to you...Serenity!
