Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Value is setup for a preset minimum throttle position. If the free play is too much that minimum throttle won't come into affect and so the following symptoms. I checked his bike and the free play was too much that is why I am almost sure here. Legend Racer try adjusting the free play by reading the user manual. It should be good after that.Originally posted by junaid12345678 View Post

Congrats on your new buy mate. One great choice it isOriginally posted by Legend Racer View Postthen, my bike has some problems. hope you all will understand and trust me here.
im not using it as im waiting for my helmet and jacket. so rode only about 90kms to home from showroom. 2 mornings now...today also in morning i encountered same starting problem. ignition, engine on switch, wait for 3 seconds, press starter button, crank and crank ( i crank for 3-4 seconds continuously) . bike just does not start. after 4-5 attempts i switch off key and after sometime i try again.
again same. after trying around 30 times the started 3 times and that too whenever i gave a bit of throttle.
the timing and amount of throttle needs to be very precise.
just did a few rounds in compound and kept it. Alas, when i stopped, it was idling for 10 seconds and all of a sudden it shut off automatically, making a sound as if bike stalls in a gear.
i think it surely got starting problem. whats the idling speed in tacho?
If you had informed earlier about the delivery I could have joined

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
What if i complete only 700kms in first 45days...and do the 1st service. My question is, if i use it very less, will it have any effect on the engine power delivery or is it not good for the engine?

Sorry brother. i really needed you all. any plans of next SA ride? had spoken to jayamohan chetta. he too was busy...we need some better plans. got to reach to students somehow.
DukeDey If you were there i could have rectified it there itself. man it was horrible to start from there. horrible start of my life ever. cranked hell lot of times. let me see how can i adjust the throttle play... Thanks...I'm a responsible rider. It doesn't matter what you ride, but what matters is how you ride.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Some interesting things that I have been observing.
1. When the fuel is very low and when ever you hard brake using front. The engine turns of. What I think would be the reason is, ECU cutting off the engine when the fuel level goes below the fuel pump to avoid the damage to the fuel pump. When ever hard braked, the fuel moves in front of the tank, leaving fuel pump open. It is highly recommended to never let this happen. I forgot to fill the tank and two times it happened that tank was almost empty
2. The speedo meter reading stops for a while when shifting the gear, though the bike is gaining speed.
3. I am hardly using the rear brake, and it is worrying me. Does any one have idea if the brake lever can be lowered a bit?2007 - Hero Honda CBZ Xtreme

orange coloured rims are a big pia if you are some one like me obsessed with cleaning cars/bikes.I clean the rims too of my vehicles.the cost of 3k is what's holding me back from painting them black.rest of the bike is ok.like i said earlier the sticker work will not last long.
also the asc has rectified the coolant leak issue.as of now no problem.but I don't trust those guys.bro and me had to get a lil rough on them to send staff to pick up bike from home.one day later they returned it.
riazmomin, I have forgotten there's a rear brake too.I have used it once consciously just to know how it feels.somehow front brake is all we need I feel.I intend to use rear only on slush/gravel/sand @ low speeds.experience:front brake always caused bikes to slip for me on these surfaces.how's the windscreen mod going??attached supporting rods??Last edited by senotrius; 12-01-2013, 11:01 AM.๔ยкє ҭђгєє ภเภєҭұ เภ ๓ұ שєเภร

After riding more than an hour, my ankle starts paining because of the rear brake lever placement. No idea how to fix the problem.Originally posted by riazmomin View Post

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Yep, front brake can do the job well. But I prefer to have rear brake right under my foot, which is not happening in this case. My ankle has bit of issue due to a crash few years back. Si I cant keep the foot on the brake lever. But I just use it momentarily when I have time to react. But need to do about it something soon.Originally posted by senotrius View Post@riazmomin, I have forgotten there's a rear brake too.I have used it once consciously just to know how it feels.somehow front brake is all we need I feel.I intend to use rear only on slush/gravel/sand @ low speeds.experience:front brake always caused bikes to slip for me on these surfaces.how's the windscreen mod going??attached supporting rods??
About the windscreen mod, I am working on weekends too. And this will go on for couple of more weeks. Hardly getting time
. I just need 3-4 hrs time for it because I want to do a clean job. I have seen many who have fitted windscreens with some welding that look eyesore. I just want to avoid any bit of welding and do it by just bending the rods accordingly.
Same for me. Have to check out for solution.Originally posted by junaid12345678 View PostAfter riding more than one hour my ankle starts paining because of the rear brake lever placement. No idea how to fix the problem.2007 - Hero Honda CBZ Xtreme

Re: KTM 390 - The original Hooligan - Ownership Thread
Just got my hands on this beast of a machine... The Duke 390....
I have to say, it's a much splendid machine than I had even imagined ! The design is simply awesome...... No doubts in that department at all... The loud orange coloring is just top notch. And the engine... well, I like to describe my bike as an oven strapped to a thermonuclear reactor...

I can definitely list pros n cons as it is :
Pros::
- you gotta love the performance... Even below 5000RPM (recommended for the first 1000km), the bike is a bomb. I managed to hit a neat 97kph in 6th gear with crossing the 5000RPM line only once. The acceleration is phenomenal. You feel it's sluggish below 2000RPM, but 2000RPM is where the fun begins. Beyond that the bike simply launches itself !
- The brakes are MARVELOUS. The huge disc on the front, the big disc on the rear, and coupled with ABS, this thing brakes real smooth and quick. Haven't hit the ABS yet though. (Don't plan on doing that either :P )
- The bike feels planted on the road thanks to it's chassis, wheelbase, and amazing metzelers. Not for a single moment does it feel loose or out of line. It's pure linear acceleration and decelartion.
Cons::
- Riding position may not be to everybody's liking. The pedals are rather rear-set, which may feel uncomfortable to some. I felt a little uneasy in the beginning, but it got eased out in 20km of riding.
- The bike makes a hell of a racket below 2000RPM. You WILL feel the 375cc single knocker very hard. Also, revving it too low will cause it to shut off.(being a new bike that might happen more than a couple of times) But yes. Being a single cylinder 375cc, expect a lot of hard knocks on low revs. Ofcourse throttle it above 3000RPM and you don't feel a thing, 'cause the engine starts to sing !
- The rear seat is NOT meant for large passengers (no offence). But honestly, this bike isn't made for long distance double seat riding. You can, but both will definitely end with sore backs.
- The bike DOES heat up a LOT. Especially in slow city traffic. It's nothing to be alarmed about, and it didn't cross the 60% mark in my half an hour of mid-traffic riding on bajirao road pune. And according to me, if saturday night traffic on that road doesn't heat your engine up, you're fine ! But point being, be prepared for some heat on your legs. Adjusting leg position helps a lot.
- The suspension may feel stiff at times, but trust me, that's needed for a bike of this power and size. And it's not THAT bad either.
All in all, this bike is worth a LOT more than it's price tag. Explore it carefully, and you'll notice, it's a bike that literally BEGS to be ridden hard and fast.
I would definitely recommend this bike, but a word of advice, use the throttle very very carefully in city traffic, as this bike can speed up really fast and really quick.
Really happy with the bike
Ride safe!

Re: KTM 390 - The original Hooligan - Ownership Thread
how to set rpm2 speed?holding trip2 down only enables rpm1 editing.according to user manual holding trip2 again should show rpm2.but this is not coming up..the service guy had set it 7000rpm.500 below allowed level before first service/running in.
could someone post pics of the coolant level.I had given the bike to asc for a whole day following overheating issue/coolant leak.the say they fixed it.but now again I cannot see a level whatsoever.not even at minimum or below that.I'm scared these guys have slacked off again like they did at pdi.which all brands can be used as coolant? manual recommends one motel inugel.but I'm sure that will not commonly available?
the front disk is creaking when coming to a dead stop.normally this is due to debris/water but the sound is not going away.especially sucks when its a slow stop and everyone turns around to see.Last edited by senotrius; 12-01-2013, 04:37 PM.๔ยкє ҭђгєє ภเภєҭұ เภ ๓ұ שєเภร

I would say the bike shuts down as the fuel rail pressure is below min required as the pump starts to suck in air momentarily.

Need to observe this. What happens? The digits just freeze for a moment?

It can be, but is not a simple job. The mechanism is the same as that was on the R15.@ALL - Is the usage of tyre sealant recommended on the bike? If anyone has used it, please comment.Originally posted by senotrius View Posthow to set rpm2 speed?holding trip2 down only enables rpm1 editing.according to user manual holding trip2 again should show rpm2.but this is not coming up..the service guy had set it 7000rpm.500 below allowed level before first service/running in.
Go to trip 2. Now, keep pressing the MODE button for some time to set RPM1. Once that is done, in trip 2, keep pressing SET button for some time to set RPM2.

Coolant level is very clearly visislbe. Mine has stayed the same in the 1200+ kms that I have done up till now.

A good spray of water on the pads help.Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!

abhijeet080808,
I figured it out and sprayed some water before I saw your post and it did help like u said. the noise is gone as of now
still not able to set trip2.i set rpm1.then i exit the edit mode and then i press 'set' for some seconds?. have not done this.will this not reset trip 2 odo reading? within rpm1 pressing 'set' button for 5-10 sec does nothing but lower to 1500rpm.
still can't see coolant level.will have to fill up again.
anyone planning to use nitrogen in their tyres? will it increase tyre life?and what about slime as abhijeet said.๔ยкє ҭђгєє ภเภєҭұ เภ ๓ұ שєเภร

Yes, that is what is to be done. TRIP2 gets reset first. After some time, RPM2 comes up.Originally posted by senotrius View Post@abhijeet080808,
