Buro - did not notice the idle RPMs, will check it. But I guess it should be what the owner's manual says, which I don't know since I didn't get the manual yet!

I realized that I was shifting the gears too soon from 1st to 2nd. The gearshifts will not be clunky if we shift at higher RPMs (shift indicator is helpful) compared to the smaller capacity bikes that we are more used to riding. I really need to unlearn the riding I have been doing before, and start afresh!

According to the manual 1600 (+ - 50) rpm is the norm.
You are exactly right I too had change my riding style to get the second gear right.

@All Duke 390 owners - How is the clutch on your bike? I had to ride some 20+ kms with around 10kms in peak traffic. My left hand almost fell off trying to operate the clutch! Please tell me the clutch gets better as the bike is run-in.

It is still stiff after 2000 kms. But yes, with time you get used to it.

Well, I hope I get used to it!

Also, has anyone got any aftermarket levers fitted? I think they might be a tad longer and hence give more leverage.

It is pretty hard when used with naked hands. Few times i felt hand numb. But never had problem while riding with gloves.

Simplest solution is to adjust the clutch so that it disengages when you do the initial press itself. By this there is less pressure in operating and helpful in quick gearshifts.

But I always ride with my riding gear on, which includes Alpinestar SMX2 gloves. Of course it is an another matter that without the riding gloves, the grips feel awful!

Edit - Yes, I get what you are trying to say. If I move the clutch bite point a little outward, there will be less pressure when the clutch is fully pulled in. I was planning to try this out.

Should one be able to go past 7K RPM during the initial break-in period? Reason I am asking is that I tried to do it today and the bike didn't want to go above 7K RPM mark at all. I was under the impression that they set only the RPM warning indicators but not really the limiter. Just want to hear from other owners before getting worried

I actually rode above 7k many a times.

Thanks Atul. My bike is still only run 200 kms so I probably didn't open up enough. I will try accelerating in lower gears and check it out soon.

In my case the bank (HDFC) got an on-road price of Rs.2,00,500 from there sources, proceeded with the formalities and asked me to pay Rs.40k+ as downpayment. But showroom guys told me its Rs.2,05,500 and asked me to pay Rs.5000 more. Later they made a refund of Rs.3000. So effectively I had to pay Rs.2000 extra.

They are charging me Interest of 9%. Will NEVER advise anyone to take loan from HDFC, so far they have been very unprofessional, stupid and full of people who do not know how to work. Stupid people delayed my delivery for over 2 weeks just because their people are lazy bums who do not want to work. Will never ever take a loan from them.
