someone earlier said, the near to 80 , the better the mileage... normally i get 28-29 constantly with frequent shifts between last 3 gears. but with only last 2 gears and at around 70 mark mostly i got 34, being the best till date. but beyond 35 if anyone is getting, its spectacular, you got long long stretches...

it should be noted that to get better economy one must not try to stay in higher gear always, as this bike's engine braking is huge and causes knocking which in turn will ruin the cylinder. shift down as the bike asks, better, as the road demands.
I'm a responsible rider. It doesn't matter what you ride, but what matters is how you ride.

Got my second 'free' service done today at Popular Motor Corporation i.e KTM Mekhri Circle.

I had called Mr. Seabastien, SA, on Wednesday and checked about the availability for Saturday and he asked me to come at 9:45 AM. I went there today at 9:15 AM and none of the service guys had turned up. I was sitting in the showroom and drooling at N650 (5.7L OTR, Bangalore) and looking at the Finance options for timepass

Mr. Sebastien turned up at 9:45 AM and quickly got down to business. The job card was made within 10 minutes and then the wait began for the technician to begin work. More than 30 minutes elapsed after making the jobcard for the technician to start working. I made following complaints about the bike:-

        1. Handle bar vibrations as if two plastic parts are rubbing against each other.
        2. L.H.S bar end weight was missing.
        3. Remove handguards.
        4. Slight screeching sound from front brake.

I was told the bike will be ready by 1PM. I decided to wait. Initially, the standard service was carried out including:-

        1. Engine oil replacement-Motul 7100
        2. Oil Filter Replacement
        3. Air filter replacement
        4. Spark plug replacement
        5. Chain cleaning

Post these jobs, technician went for a short test ride to diagnose my complaint number 1 and concluded it was the number plate assy screws that need tightening.

For complaint 4, he cleaned the front brake pads.

Complaint 2 and 3 were attended to immediately after standard service.

All this was done by 11:30 AM. washing took another hour! and I was out of there by 1PM as planned earlier.

        Total bill was Rs.2163.

Handle bar vibrations have reduced significantly and the bike feels noticeably smoother. Front brake noise remains as is. Overall ok job.

A highside is this. Suppose you're taking a high speed corner, the rear looses traction and stays sliding, and then regains traction all of a sudden. This disrupts the the smooth motion of sliding with sudden unwanted traction (in this particular case)and makes the bike snap to the upright position, thereby throwing you over the bars. Hence you highside over the bars and are likely to incur fractures.

A lowside occurs when the front tire looses traction. This causes the bike to fall from under you, thereby both you and the bike slide along together. This is a much smoother transition from you being upright on the bike to being on your butt, and is more preferable to a highside which is more violent comparatively. If you don't hit anything else in the process, you are only likely to have some bruises, that is if you are wearing protective gear.

Hello to everyone. I would like to ask where is the speedometer sensor located in our Duke 390? Because im having this serious problem (please watch the video below) wherein speed is detected even if it is in neutral and totally not moving at all. Even in second gear im getting 90 kilometers per hour reading and at 4th gear im getting up to 172kph reading. While moving speed is at random reading 172-118-124-162-110-134 kph in random order which i know is inaccurate. Thank you in advance c:

                • Some problems and doubts on duke 390

                  Hi guys,
I have been using duke 390 for little over a month now. Did over 3k kms. I have some questions. Please do direct me if some of them were already on the forums.
                  Technical issues...
                  1. I have from filled nitrogen in the tires and the pressure seems to drop in both the tires by around 3 psi after a trip of 200-250 kms. I didn't experience this with normal air. Is it normal or should I go back to normal air? Also suggest any specific brand of tyre protectors or travel puncture kits.
                  2. The shifter is getting stuck while down shifting at the bottom position especially from 4 th to 3 rd. It will kick back only after fully releasing the clutch. Went to service centre several times but with no good response on the problem. Clutch is engaging fine. Is it normal? Could it be problem with loose clutch plates?
                  3. There is lot of engine noise compared to the 200 version . Should I be concerned or is it normal? Is there a way to reduce it? I did not notice it while riding with helmet. It is dominant while revving at around 3.5 to 4.5 k rpm.
                  4. The lower side of the chain is hitting the swing arm. The service guys said it is there in every 390. Is it true?
Need some thoughts and info on the following as well...
                  5. Any good graphics and decals shops in Hyderabad? List a few.
                  6. Any cheap paddock stand available in Hyderabad? For some DIY chain cleaning and lubing.

If you guys remember, I was saying that my bike used to idle high, around 1.8k-2k rpm all the time. Another friend of my mine who got 390 recently also has high idling. I checked with SVC manager and he told me that the new bikes have higher idling to reduce stalling issue and occasional cold start issues and its better if its kept that way. There was an old 390 in SVC idling exactly at 1.5k and he said older bikes were like that.

I am not sure if this high idling is supposed to reduce the same stalling issue which few people were facing when you pull the clutch in higher gears. Whoever facing this issue ask your SVC about changing idling, maybe it will solve it.

PS : The side effect maybe reduction of mileage by 1-2kmpl I guess.

My feb 2014 manufacturing bike was delivered yesterday. It idles at close to 2000 rpm as well.

The Annoying rattling sound coming from the Tank area has been resolved.

I have tried to locate the source of the sound in all possible ways.

                        Head light assembly
                        Fuel Cap
                        Overflow Pipe
                        Tank itself
                        Belly Pan.

At SVC, we removed the belly pan and observed that there was no rattle. The reason was because of bent bracket that was connected to belly pan. It was bent probably because of unusually build speed breaker at my home, which hit the belly pan when I went over it.

Bracket was adjusted and bike has become rattle free.

The fluctuation of RPM at around 3000 has gone after replacing the air filter.

I observed that even on my bike RPM is limited to 9500.

Probably new batch of 390s are coming with updated ECU, hence high idle and higher rev limiter. Patching the ECU was new updated may solve it.

                          Hi link

I'm not sure about the duke but if it's an electronic sensor then it is normally on the front axle between the wheel and the fork.
This problem should go if you disconnect the battery completely(always first remove negative then +ve and connecting first +be then -ve) then connect and try. If not then you will need to replace the sensor. Hope u r under warranty😝. Ride safe

I am facing a new issue for past 2-3 days. When I push the bike forward (in my parking lot), there is a tak tak tak sound coming from somewhere near the bottom engine area. It is not present when pushing back.
I suppose it is also present when riding but can be heard due to the sound of the engine.
                                Any ideas?
