Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
I was looking at the terms and conditions for warranty in my 390 booklet and it specifically says that the recommended oil grade of 10W50 should be used.Originally posted by timuseravan View PostI did my second service on saturday and wanted to use 300V. But the SVC refused saying it will void the warranty. This is ridiculous. Is your warranty voided?
I plan to write to KTM about this.
While I've been told the 300v is better (although it should apparently be changed much earlier), the warranty clearly states the oil grade and we know 300v starts with 15W50

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Personally if you live in state where the temperature are always on the clouds, 15w50 is absolutely not a problem, unless you live in severely cold areas where the prefix number comes into account. I've used and been using currently 300V 15w50 for two consecutive changes on my 220 and it's seen good bad and ugly but so far so good. I absolutely don't see anything that's a mismatch here, it purely comes down to one's own discretion. 300V is a good oil, more finer oil, double ester, whreas the 7100 is a single ester fully synthetic oil, both are if not, almost the same stuff with the 300V having a very slight upper hand.Originally posted by sachin.s.savur View PostI was looking at the terms and conditions for warranty in my 390 booklet and it specifically says that the recommended oil grade of 10W50 should be used.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

If I am not wrong, Duke's brakes are steel braided, but covered by a plastic outer, rather than the plain types where the steel mesh are exposed as such in other Pulsar series. While I get your reasoning and I definitely conform to the same, one cannot deny that you need to stick to the warranty limits to continue being covered under it. It doesn't matter what we know to be correct. We also know that no SVC would like to agree on this point. I'm only stating to what the SVC guys can point to; and you can't deny that they are correct to follow these guidelines.Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostPersonally if you live in state where the temperature are always on the clouds, 15w50 is absolutely not a problem, unless you live in severely cold areas where the prefix number comes into account. Actually I didnt know it was steel, I asked at the service centre but they had no idea about the steel braided break lines and NGK spark plugs I read within this forum that both duke 200 and 390 can be fitted with the same ngk pulg.Originally posted by AmitRavi07 View Postdukes already have steel braided brake lines and as far as I know ngk only have plugs for 200

Why would you want to ask them ? The 300v is anyday doing a better job at keeping the bike cooler and smoother than the 7100. It also depends a lot on the grade of the oil. Honestly for a short stroke high compression engine in our hot and humid conditions 10W40 is non-sense. 15W50 or 20W50 is a given.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Another funny thing is that he EU manual suggest an oil grade of 15w50 while our manuals have 10w50 listed as standard oil. This makes absolutely no sence as the numbers before the "w" is supposed to denote the oils capability in cold temperatures. ie. the lower the better for cold temperatures.
There is no logic why the indian manuals should recommend a lower w number in a hot pressure cooker of a country like india.
That being said, the "50" value that denotes the performance capability for high temperature performance is the same on the Motul 7100 and Motul 300v.
The SVCs should ideally have no problem with the usage of the 300v whatsoever as its clearly the better oil performancewise. Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle!

And these guys use the 10W40 7100 while servicing, which can be attributed to a lot of the gasket leaks happening. The oil is just not viscous enough for our operating temperature.Originally posted by The Pain View PostAnother funny thing is that he EU manual suggest an oil grade of 15w50 while our manuals have 10w50 listed as standard oil. Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
As others have already stated for Indian temperature conditions, 10 or 15 should not make any difference. Even 20 would not be a problem - as a matter of fact the D200 has 20W50 as the recommended oil.
The worst part is that Europe with colder temperatures gets a oil of 15W50 :@
I am drafting an email to KTM regarding the oil grade and warranty. Will update on this thread.KTM Duke 390 | RE Interceptor 650
