Should the engine oil be changed at 300kms? Anyone who did that saw any benefits?

      Dear Dukers,

I wanted to know your opinion on Duke 390 vs RC 390.

I am looking for a bike for a year now, had booked DS but never got convinced with RE relaiblity, wanted to test ride D390 before i make final payement for DS,yesterday i got chance to do a TR, a long one. And i was impressed with the ride, i returned with smiling face. I was going to do booking yesterday only but somehow resisted my urge to give myself couple of days to think over it.
Now as i read that RC will be released in sometime soon so is it worth to wait for it?

My basic requirement is weekend Fun rides and some touring once a month or so. I might take it to office once a week. The way to my office is 80 percent highway. I am quite satisfied with Duke 390 but dont want to feel that i have missed something if i liked RC 390 later.

What do you suggest for my usage which will be a better buy?

      Thanks in advance.

It's kinda impossible for anyone to help u with this decision rite now as the RC has not been launched yet. However in essence the engines on both are exactly the same spec so it would come down to whether u like faired bikes, a forward leaning or an upright riding stance. The stiff ride quality is probably going to be the same on both if not stiffer on the RC.

It all comes down to which style you like more personally I like naked bike for all purpose use, as it will be more comfortble on long rides i.e. better posture in terms of comfort. Also in case of D390 and RC 390, RC390 will have a slighter smaller tank. Also in event of crash/fall there will be much smaller bill to pay for D390 as compared to RC390.
But if you plan to do track day then RC390 will be a better pick not that D390 is not good on track

Imo no need. I have always changed at 1000km for all my bikes. Besides the manufacturer itself recommends 1000km.

The RC will be more track focused so the seating wont be upright. I personally find upright position great for longer distances.
In any case, the RC is supposed to be launched on 9th Sep. Wait for test drive.

BTW good call going for Duke rather than RE. RE reliability is poor.

                      Hey Guys!
So i tested my theory and it holds water, i completely burnt off any speed 97 i had left in my tank and refilled with 93 octane IOC and BANG! the 'average mileage' increased to what is was ealier when i wrote about it here, like the avgerage is 26-27 kmpl, while with the speed 97 it was a constant 18-21 kmpl (lowest 13 kmpl) , and this average kmpl's i'm mentioning is like driving in PURE office traffic , for the ones in delhi , u know the maharani bagh-ashram- lajpat nagar stretch during office hours, so yep!

So there is definitely a difference guys, try it out atleast once, because im sure there is sum tweaking difference if the manuals of the bike getting exported and the bikes sold here having different octane rating mentioned on the manual. i guarantee ull better mileage, because it surprised me also , because when i bought the bike i was getting a solid 26 kmpl almost all the time, then i met the guy the owner of another 390 at the service station , and he said he gets 18-22 so i was surprised because i had never seen those low numbers, but voila ! i filled 97 and mileage dropped down right in that range which he mentioned.

Let me know how it goes for you! i would love some feedback from you guys !

I got a call frm my friend on saturday night from Mysore, it was an emergency and i had to take a parcel from him and deliver it back here in Mangalore. I had to deliver it before 4pm on sunday. And so i left at 6am from Mangalore, yesterday. I was in Mysore at 9.30am, finished the job, had breakfast, left Mysore at 10.30am. Was a bit relaxed on the way back since i had enough time, reached back at around 2.30pm and wife was happy that i joined her for sunday lunch. Got my sunday's kick, family happy...The End...

Just completed 250kms of initial riding.

The coolant splashing has stopped. And had an issue with rear brake cylinder as it leaked from the cap area. Removed the cap cleaned it and fitted it again. Now looks like the issue is solved. Apart from these minor niggles there is nothing except that the bike just make u smile every single time.

Are here are the few pics from our Sunday blast with our riding group GEARS in Goa.

Distances are automagically reduced when on the D390 ;-)

Have not checked the average but the 97 octane Speed does reduce the heating of the engine. I have noticed this while switching between the 97 and the normal petrol.
