Hi guys! My bike had stalled after washing and I asked the SVC guy to come over and check the bike because the nearest SVC is 70 kms from my home and the bike just won't start.
The fault was diagnosed and rectified, the HT coil pins were bent somehow from day one, bike used to jerk from 2.5k to 4.5k rpm like there is no fuel in it.
And after I washed the bike the contact broke because of rusting amd the bike didn't start at all.
Now the bike is running but the jerking problem is increasing, so I went to KTM Faridkot Punjab, they did all the checkup and found no solution to the cause, the rpm used to fluctuate from 2.5 to 1.3 or 1.5.
So in the end I asked them to replace the ecu with a 2013 bike which they call M13 model and the new lot which is mine is M14, they agreed amd swapped the ecu with the 2013 d390 and the problem was somewhat solved, now they have ordered a new ECU for my bike which the owner was telling me is the best mapped ECU coz its mapped in July 2014 and they have solved all the issues completely.
After that one more thing which even they couldn't figi out was that the bike in 5th and 6th gear at 5l to 6k rpm vibrates so intensively that you can actually hear the foot pegs rattling, its very irritating, they tightened the chain and even tried loosening it but no good.
Whay can be the possible reason b3hind this thing??

            • KTM 390 - 2014 Ownership experience - 1000KMs

              Hey Guys,

I recently purchased duke 390 after gulping down almost all reviews on xbhp. Although I wanted to share my experience with everyone earlier and I indeed penned down the entire thing but I was at work while writing the review, I had to switch between windows for some reason the work was not saved and I lost the entire thing. I completed my first service today and this seems to be more appropriate time now.

              Run:In period:

Have been riding Enfield motorcycles for past 5 years and really wanted something different, some thing fast! A friend of mine suggested KTM when they were about to launch 200 in India. Gave it some time, saved up some money and then booked a TD. It was a short one but my wife was more thrilled than I was after the ride. It was on my mind!! I could barely sleep, literally.

The day of purchase and we were at the KTM Lajpat nagar,New Delhi. The dealer offered me a discount of 1500 where as other showrooms did offer very less discount. It costed me 2.02L on road. I am in debt now. He showcased two dukes and allowed me to choose between them. We were out the showroom by seven in evening and met the famous Ashram roundabout. Phew, seriously bad timing. But but, the fun started as I zipped her through the traffic and leaving everyone behind. It was just amazing.

Next day my wife accompanied me on a short trip next day towards Yamuna express-way for a short ride. We did about 100 Kms one way but we both reacted in the same way 'So soon!'. It was thrilling and just amazing. It was like everything I really wanted.

Well, I soon realized that perhaps this is fast but it is not really meant for city riding specially when you have to cross kalindi kunj ( nigtmare ) bridge at Delhi-Noida border. Here are some issues I faced:

Heat : Does generate heat and we all are aware after numerous discussion that duke 390 generates a lot of heat and is not good for stop go traffic. And, I still ride it everyday to work because of the fun have after I hit the free roads. The heat is not going to burn our skin and we just need to move around a bit on the seat during stop-go traffic

              Clutch : Very hard!

Suspension: Under the stock settings it just feels ok. The front suspension is a bit rough and I do not enjoy passing poth-holes.

Gear change: Makes the traditional 'Thak' sound and its not very pleasing. I remember discussions where it was told that this reduces post run-in.

              Post run-in:

Got my first service completed at 900KMs today( 21-Sep-14 ). It was at Deewan baja's work shop at Okhla. The place is quite huge with a separate section for KTM and Kk although, other bikes were getting serviced as well. The good thing is that you can see your bike getting serviced and ask questions. I paid 2100 for the service including pulsar 135 RVMs and 200ns tank pad. They dont look so good but the view is much better now that it was with the stock KTM RVMs.

I went for a 100KMs ride toward greater Noida. It was as exhilarating as it was the first time with some added smoothness. I touched 130KMs/H couple of times and I still had a lot of power left. It was again an amazing experience.

Heating post run-in: Well coolant was topped up and the heating did indeed reduce. However, I don't really care about the heat that much. On a hot day, I have a 4 wheeler

Clutch post run-in: Much better than what it was.

              Suspension: No change

Gear change: Nothing has improved. Still makes the 'Thak' sound. Not sure, if I am doing something wrong! The chain was cleaned and lubricated infront of me. However, I am still not sure what oil was used.

Overall I would rate the motorcycle very high considering the fact that the motorcycle enabled a service class man to afford such a machinery and it is amazing to ride on highways.

Query : I have these footpeg vibrations after the first service and this happens in the higher RPM range. Anyone concur?

                Hello fellow bikers,

I have gone through the entire thread, silently lurking and reading every post on this thread. There are issues (No bike is perfect) but my heart is set on buying this beast. I currently own a R15 v2 and would be pretty soon selling it off to "Go Orange". RC is out of my budget, so I'll settle for the next best thing i.e. D390 . So I have a few questions which I hope to get answers on:

                1. What is the OTR in Mumbai as of now?

                2. Preferred KTM dealership in Mumbai? I stay at Thane and there's one right next to where I stay."Thane KTM" on Eastern Express Highway. But I would like to know which has a better buying experience? TD, proper customer support, etc.

                3. Good SVCs around Mumbai/Thane? I've read SVCs being ill-informed. There are no perfect SVCs ever still I would like to know the ones who know what they are doing.

                Thanks in advance!

I am facing similar vibrations specially in the higher rpm range post first service. Hope nothing is wrong but may be need to get it checked.

Guys need some urgent help. My rear tire had a small puncture when the odo was 3k kms. Now at 10k kms, air is leaking from the old puncture.

How to fix it? I have a 1000kms trip coming this weekend.

Don't want any hiccups for the ride.

If u got the puncture repaired using a puncture sealing strip that is inserted from outside, then try getting a patch repair for your old puncture. The patch is stuck from the inside after taking the tire off the wheel. I think it should do.
Hope you have a great trip.

Can I maintain speeds between 100 & 120 after the fix? The Michelin dealer I talked to is against any fix, he insists stability will be lost and he's suggesting to use inner tube or get a new tire.

I got my bike from ktms Kanjurmarg dealership . It was a good experience.

They have their svc at ghatkoper that's pretty good too.

Otr prices I haven't kept a track of. But just give any of the dealerships a call and they will give u the info u need.
