Re: KTM 390 - The original Hooligan - Ownership Thread
1. Even I hear the wierd noises from rear chain sprocket combo. Unable to figure out the issue. Removed the tyre hugger and noise still persists. To rule out that the noise is coming from engine, I switched it off once while coasting at low speed and confirmed that it is coming from the rear.Originally posted by Mik View PostA few more kilometers logged and here are my observations.
1. Weird noises persist. Its as if something is loose and gives a sound similar to a very loose chain.
2. Stop go traffic is a nightmare. I am simply not able to slot into neutral properly. Have to switch off the bike and then sometimes the starter plays foul
3. The grip - Heavenly
4. The power delivery and balance - Neat and non fussy.
5. Real time mileage has varied from 35 kmpl to 21 kmpl.
6. Overtaking, slicing through traffic, befuddled car guys - an absolute joy.
My wife is already complaining. She is scared of being thrown off the seat and demands that the Pulsar-220 not be sold
2. I have ridden it over 500Kms and never once did I face the starter issue. [Please do not give throttle while trying to start]. I have ridden RX100 for quite a long time and I never found it difficult to find neutral in 390 because I think it is more or less similar...
3. Need to check the grip by taking it to winding roads. 99% of my riding so far has been on highways...
4. Power delivery - I agree with your point...
5. Mileage gas never gone past 24 for me...may be because of my riding style...
6. Overtaking...Yes, I love overtaking speeding cars to see their befuddled expression :-)
My wifey has already told me that she will not sit on this bike and I have bought another new Yamaha Ray for family purposes ;-)
I changed to mineral oil at around 300Kms and felt that the engine is little smooth now after the oil change...
I feel that the engine breaking is little on higher side and speed reduces fastly even from 6th gear...
Changed the headlight bulb to Philips X-treme vision and I feel that the brightness has improved only marginally [may be 10%]...Need to compare against another 390 with stock headlight....

(Primarily to save the car from scratches
)
Do let me know the brand and grade of the mineral oil you changed to.
If Philips X-treme vision is not much of an improvement, wonder what will be. It sure needs an upgrade.

Re: KTM 390 - The original Hooligan - Ownership Thread
An 100/90 watt headlight would be a good upgrade. But i dont know if its possible as more power is needed from the battery/alternator. Also the wires should be able to handle higher wattage. and you would need ceramic headlight holder. The heat from the light can melt the headlight plastic cover.Originally posted by Mik View PostAnd I bought her a TVS Wego

Or one could use HIDs. But that could void the warranty.
I ll post in the duke 200 thread and find out if anyone has used a 100w bulb.I bought the Ninja 250R !!.....And then i woke up :(

Re: KTM 390 - The original Hooligan - Ownership Thread
Today first drive went to Sohna from South Delhi it's fun to drive in traffic and without traffic. I do not understand why do some people on car develop who problem with my speed. They try to make short races between red lights. My wife was sitting pilon it was not at all comfortable for her.

Awesome job with the rim strip!!! I am a fan.Originally posted by riazmomin View Post
BTW, got the Carbon Fiber like material (not carbon fiber imitated) rim strip. They look excellent. The METZLER text got it cut and is on both the wheels on either sides.

Re: KTM 390 - The original Hooligan - Ownership Thread
The mail I wrote to KTM after getting fed up by the bull shit from the dealer:
Respected Sir,
Kindly note your South Mumbai KTM showroom has a bunch of MORONS (trying to) running a show (but badly failing everytime).
I waited 5 months for the bike. Everyone did. I paid 40,000/- in advance. I never created a fuss or said a word. The dealer never called or sent a mail notifying me anything.
Finally, bike came in showroom (warehouse) more than 20 days ago. I called as i came to know about it. The dealer never called. He said I should come and make the balance payment. Which i did, the same day.
The dealer said 5 days and you'll get the bike. The agents have been delaying my paperwork since more than 2 weeks now. Remaining bikes from my lot were bought to the showroom in a truck for delivery, mine still staying back in the warehouse. I was given the option of taking it myself from the warehouse,a good 60kms from the city as the dealer said he couldn't afford to hire a truck for just 1 bike. (Quite funny considering its the premium bike of KTM, Europe's largest manufacturer...).
I said, i'll go and get it rather than have a guy ruin the engine of India's premier sportsbike during run-in. They agreed HAPPILY. After delaying with their agent inspite of me following up and asking them to comply with their own agent, their paperwork wasn't done on time.
I still kept calm. They said anyhow all will be done by Tuesday and Tuesday eve the number would arrive, wednesday morning being a holiday I could finally go collect the bike from the warehouse on 2nd October.
I called the agent and followed up all day. He said please ask Sai Service to send their demand draft for the RTO so he could continue with the formalities. I've been going out of my way to ensure after failing periodically on the last 2 time linesOF LAST WEEK, THEN MONDAY, THEN TUESDAY, he complies AT LEAST THIS TIME.
The dealer called saying the number will arrive, I should come to the showroom to collect papers and go for delivery tomorrow. Also, I must get my brother to sign the delivery note as the bike is on his name. HE stays in a nearby city, travelled 65kms to make it.
I called the dealer before leaving to still confirm. HE said you come, the no is on the way. After cancelling all my meetings for the evening abruptly, calling my brother in an hrs notice from another city, the dealer says, after me spending 7pm to 8.30pm in the dealership, that the number hasn't come. I can't take my bike.
ZERO COORDINATION AMONG THE WORKERS AND DEPARTMENTS. WASTE OF MY TIME AND MONEY. 2 HRS WASTED AT THE DEALERSHIP. DEALER SAYS COLLECT THE BIKE ON FRIDAY.
AM I A FOOL?
IS MY TIME OF NO VALUE?
CONFIRMING AND CALLING ABRUPTLY, THENJ DENYING THE DELIVERY DUE TO GOOF UPS AS USUAL. HOW MANY TIMES ARE YOUR EMPLOYEES ALLOWED TO APOLOGIZE????
ITS A 2 DAY JOB TO REGISTER AND MORE THAN 15 DAYS HAVE PASSED
AFTER SPEAKING TO YOUR AGENT AT 8.30 PM TODAY, THEY CONFESSED THEY TOOK OUT THE DD VERY LATE AND COULDN'T SUBMIT IT TO THE RTO ON TIME(OTHER DEPARTMENTS WERN'T EVEN NOTIFIED) HENCE I WAS MADE TO WASTE MY TIME AND GO ALL THE WAY TO VASAI A GOOD 60KMS AWAY ON A WORKING DAY TO TAKE DELIVERY.
I'M THE ADMIN OF KTM 390 DUKE MUMBAI OWNER'S CLUB (THE DUKES OF MUMBAI)
I APPRECIATE THIS ATTITUDE OF EMPLOYEES, RETURNED THEM ALL MY RECEIPTS. I DO NOT WANT YOUR BIKE. OUTSIDE SUB-DEALERS ARE SOURCING BIKES FROM THE SAME SHOWROOM AND SELLING AT A PREMIUM AND GENUINE CUSTOMERS BEING TAKEN FOR A RIDE.
I WANT MY MONEY BACK WITH INTEREST AND HEAVY COMPENSATION, ELSE I'LL BE FORCED TO SUE YOUR DEALER FOR INADEQUACY AND DEFICIENCY OF SERVICE, DISRESPECT OF THE CLIENT'S TIME AND MONEY.
ALL RECEIPTS ARE WITH YOUR DEALER. I'M AGITATED, PISSED, PATIENCE HAS BEEN TAKEN FOR A RIDE.
THEY CAN KEEP THE BIKE AND TAKE OTHER PPL FOR A RIDE.
I WAS FINALLY PROMISED DELIVERY ON WEDNESDAY, I WANT THE BIKE DELIVERED (NOT RIDDEN) TO MY ADDRESS BY TOMORROW EVE, ELSE ASK YOUR DELAER TO REVERT WITH THE FULL REFUND + COMPENSATION FOR MENTAL HARASSMENT, NEGLIGENCE, DEFICIENCY OF SERVICE.
EITHER THE BIKE OR 2,50,000/- RETURNED BY TOMORROW EVE.

Re: KTM 390 - The original Hooligan - Ownership Thread
Sure guys. They said collect the bike from vasai, a good 60kms away on Friday. I said I want the bike on wed as promised or my money back with compensation.
Funny thing is Inspite of me following up and doing their job, they'll
pay the dd on Thursday and get the number Thursday eve.
I wanted to get a special no. Asked them to inform a week before the bike comes. They confirmed late. I said new series will come in October, so go ahead with random number as I want the bike asap.
The joke is, it's now October, registration charges still not paid, their goof ups as usual and I didn't get to have a special number nor the bike.
