frnt mud flap?? not yet. we dont even need it for the front, the mudguard itself is sufficient.

There will be lots of mud/slush thrown onto radiator because of openness of the front mudguard. Few bikes that were delivered came with it. I might be getting it soon.

Went on a 240 kms ride yesterday.
Duke performed really well and planted at corners at good speeds with a pillion. Ride report will be updated in below thread.

Took delivery of my 390 last Saturday evening...have been riding it since then [300 kms so far]. Bike is simply amazing and my experience mirrors the same as what others have told in this forum....

Two issues reported in various forums seems to be definitely resolved [Heat and start up issues]

Heat - Radiator fan blows air out towards front mud guard when the bike is stationary. I noticed it multiple times and even checked by feeling the hot air blown outwards on my hands. I think there is a speed sensor based on which it works because some times fan blows the hot air towards your legs when you are going at crawling speeds in traffic and you can definitely feel the heat of it....

Start up issues - I never faced this issue even once. Trick is not to give throttle when you try to start it.
But one of my friend took a test ride and stalled the bike twice or thrice before moving. Each time he tried to start by providing a little throttle and bike didn't start. I asked him to start without throttle and it started without any issues.

Really interested to know the pillion's viewpoint of the ride , especially regarding the seating dynamics! (my main concern)

The next day (21st Sept), I & Abhiman(creator of KTm duke 390 owners group in FB) went on for a ride (>100Kms out of Bangalore) to Chunchi fall (Dont knwo if I have named it correctly. Didnt wanted to go long distance because, mine was hte new bike with only Insurance paper, also by the time we set the plan it was late afternoon.

This ride made me realise that we dont just pay for the bike, we pay for bike as well as for so many more things, that cant be expressed through words.

Let me just give you an update on last few rides I had in my life (before getting my hands on 390)

I learnt riding on Bajaj Classic SL , a 100 cc scooter, when I was in 10th. Then it met with an accident & we sold it for 15k.
Soon we realised the importance of a two wheeler in a middle class Indian family & purchased LML Pulse(new costed 22k), I was in inter & sometimes I used to take it to my college.
During second year of my degree, I thought Motorbike is the best ride (Stylish, attention grabber) in a college... so insisted my dad to take a bike. there was a big NO... after asking for soo many times.. atlast my dad aggreed to get the bike.. but he said it should not be more than 50k.

I heard of Yamaha being the performance bike (RX100, RX135 effect) so told my dad to take Yamaha Crux R (106 cc, 7 bhp). That was the first bike I came across in my life.. in 2004.

I was riding hte yamaha till 2007, when I came to Bangalore to do MBA.

From a 106cc to 373cc, from 7bhp to 44 bhp.. for me 390 duke is any way a milestone bike & a kings bike.. (I am not saying Crux R is not a good bike, it is still part of our family)

Coming to the ride, so we stared @ 2 Pm from bangalore (through Bannerghatta - Nice road - Kannakpura route). In nice road first time I saw 120Kmph in my bike...Woo I was flying like a new bird.

We stopped in between to take few snaps, the ride was so much fun that we dont wanted to stop for pics..

Road towards kannakpura was awsome with less traffic (that day it was little more), nice curves (remember these curves doesnt excite all Man, it only excites BIKERS..). This was my first ride with such a poerfull machine, still I could able to take corner at 80 & more than 90 Kmph with ease (thanks to metzeller super sticky rubber)

Actually the plan was to go till kannakpura & return back to Bangalore but after having such a nice ride till kannakpura, I wanted to go little ahead. Abhiman switched on his mobile internet to check the nearest place to go & come back soon to Bangalore. We found Chunchi fall is the neareast one... So headed towards Chunchi fall, with very few stops only to take pics...

I see more and more folks removing the knuckle guards.

Knuckle guards may for sure have utility, especially in a bumper to bumper traffic country like India where it is not uncommon to clip rear-view mirrors with anothers, in crowded bazaars. Having said that, purely from an appearance perspective, in my view, this makes the bike looks more 'compact', and in line with the naked street-bike looks.

Surfing the net, I did not come across any country where the knuckle guards have been provided, at least as a standard accessory. In India, this has been done probably to satisfy the 'demanding and paisa-vasool' prioritizing India consumer, who seeks a differentiation between the D200 and D390. Looks as if Bajaj took the easy way out by throwing in some (cheap) knuckle guards. After all, plastics in India do not cost the earth, especially vis-a-vis power part accessories made by Euro earning factory employees abroad.

In fact, if I had to hazard a guess, even the orange wheels were introduced basis early 'differentiation' feedback along the same lines : the initial pics from November 2012 upto Feb 2013 or so, carried black wheels.

Anyone done temporary registration for their 390 duke? My residential address falls outside of kolkata, hence I need to do temporary registration to take the bike out of the showroom. The showroom guys are asking for 3000 Rs when I think the Govt. takes only 200 Rs for temporary registration! This is daylight robbery! They used to charge 1500 Rs for Duke 200 whereas Govt. charges 190 Rs for the same!

Samik, it is like that with most of the showrooms not just ktm's. Do a little research on what's the exact price according to the govt policies and get back to them with full info. They should do as you say afterwards.
