KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
I follow that forum too. Few pointers.Originally posted by Gunslingin_Ridr View PostJust read a lot of radiator fan failures in US now. Been reading that thread for about an hour and a half on KTMDuke390Forum.com.
They say it's better to use a SPAL fan and Engine Ice coolant, they also say that the shroud does more harm than good. Considering US is generally colder compared to here, should I bother changing it or atleast removing the shroud? Don't have no issues but the fan is always running and the engine temp is a bar or two less than the safety "line" that we see on the temp guage.
1. Most of them are from florida, with similar temperatures like in india.
2. The fan case was for a specific batch i guess. Their issue was that fan used to eat into radiator. But ive never heard of such failure here. At the most fan slows down and eventually gives up. You can put spal, but it will be horribly expensive.
3. The safety line(below 2 bars on guage) is the bikes normal operating temperature.
4. Follow rc-390forum.com too, its also a good forum with loads of mods etc for 390.Last edited by ynike99; 07-23-2015, 06:45 PM.Motorcycling heals, big time...

1. I read a few failures from Canada too. Most of them were because of bad PDI, like the bike had no coolant.Originally posted by ynike99 View PostI follow that forum too. Few pointers.

2. The 2015 model has that fan shroud. It does prevent the hot air from flowing to the rider's thighs, but I've read that the shroud directs the hot air to the cylinder assembly, I don't think that's a good thing.
SPAL fan costs about 60$ without shipping. Link: A1 Electric Online Store: Spal 30103011 5.2" Fan (pull)
I think that's a safe bet. Worried about warranty though.
3. Good to know that, but I have experienced the bike taking hell lots of time to cool down after switching off the engine. Like I ride for about 30 mins, come back home and switch off. And when I turn it back on after 3-4 hours, the temp gauge will be having 1 or 2 bars on it. Maybe because of the shroud trapping all the heat.
4. Will do.

KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
So one year of ownership of D390 completed today. Till now its a somewhat pleasant experience with minor hiccups in between.
My bike's current odo reading is 7800 kms. This mileage has been covered 55% in highway and 45% in city traffic. Now coming to pros and cons of this bike.
Pros :-
1. Crazy acceleration and great handling makes it good highway bike.
2. Metz tyres are super sticky and does its duty very well. Still tyres can run about 2.5k - 3k kms.
3. Parts are not expensive and easily available at my svc. Chains and sprockets too have life of about 3k kms.
4. ABS completes this bike. In my city anything can come in between or from wrong side that can be some educated people to some two-wheeler and four wheeler guys who risks their own life and others life for saving their few minutes.
Cons :-
1. Seat is hard but thats ok for long tours you have to take timely breaks.
2. Tank cap vibrates which i think addressed by ktm in 2015 batch bikes.
3. Heat management is not up to the mark. It heats a lot in B2B traffic.
4. Low end torque leads to frequent gear changes in city traffic.
Parts replaced / problems faced :-
1. Replaced LHS mirror when bike was just 1 week old. Glass just cracked when i was adjusting it.
2. Replaced thermostats twice.
3. Replaced radiator fan because was bike was overheating a lot and was stalling at the middle of traffic which was quite scary.
4. Leg guard was taken off because bolt of RHS part of leg guard was broken and it's half part was stuck.
Conclusion:-
This bike is VFM package. I think no bike offers this awesome power, sticky metz tyres, ABS at 2.08 L. There are cons in every bike and good part is ktm-bajaj is addressing those issues with upcoming lots.
P.S - I have no idea why pics are not uploading in its full size and are looking blurry.

The shroud is designed for rc, theres proper channeling of air, hot air comes out near ankles. Using the same fan with shroud on duke may/may not be useful, but bajaj might have decided to use only one design rather than 2.
Spal with shipping and customs might go upto 100-120$ easy, our fan is abt ₹1500~.You may give it a try though.I dont see any issues with warranty as it will be a plug and play device.Motorcycling heals, big time...

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
It's not actually a plug and play, heard we have to splice the wires for it to work. The fitting is direct. They say the small casing around the SPAL fan does a better job in redirecting the air than the big -a** shroud. I might go for that in the future.Originally posted by ynike99 View PostThe shroud is designed for rc, theres proper channeling of air, hot air comes out near ankles. I am planning to buy duke390 with in two weeks. So i want to know what are the precautions and tips for first 1000km?I think many people are already owned the bike and having some experience by now so please guide me regarding this.
Regarding engine oil i read some reviews but unable to choose which one is better.Engine ice is good it seems but anything better is available?Cost doesn't matter.
