And during delivery, I believe the vehicle is filled with Bajaj DTS-i 10000 oil. They change that to Motul 7100 FS in 1st service. Motul 300v is the best engine oil from Motul.

First of all, Engine Ice is a coolant liquid. It can be used but will cost a lot and it gets drunken up pretty quick.Originally posted by wrecker View Post

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences

No, engine ice is not 'drunken' up quick. If it is, then it means you either have a leak or the coolant is mixing with engine oil and you need to get the issue fixed.Originally posted by Gunslingin_Ridr View PostFirst of all, Engine Ice is a coolant liquid. Unless you are parking the bike under the hot sun regularly, you wont see a drastic decrease in coolant levels. The coolant expansion tank (plastic tank) has a vent/opening which might lead to more evaporation if the bike is parked in the hot sun for long periods.

you could search the forum, i've posted the link to both the user manual as well as the full blown workshop manual.Originally posted by drive_angry View PostCan you please share the link of user's manual for D390?
for some reason, the ktm website now doesn't seem to have the english owners manual.. duh!

http://nexgenbikes.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/KTM-Duke-390-2015-Repair-Manual.pdf?2fb5c5

Guys,, has anybody tried adding bar end mirrors to the 390?
I am thinking of getting a pair, checked out the following:
Will these fit?

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Guys, need some urgent help.
Today morning while starting to office, I realized that I left keys on bike last night.
Since I cover the bike every night, security wasn't an issue.
But today, when I pressed the starter button nothing happened, then the console started to act weird.
All sort of error messages were being displayed one after the other.
One second it shows low fuel, again it shows all fuel bars and now suddenly the temperature gauge is full and high coolant warning message is shown.
Low battery message is shown in between, again overridden by something else. All these warning messages were shown at random.
I tried to push start the bike, but nothing happened. Tried several time before giving up and called service station.
They were not of much help, they asked me to get the battery recharged and then get the bike to service station for diagnosis.
I was pissed off by this time, removed the battery and took it to a near by battery shop for recharge.
Left the battery there and reached office by auto.
Here are my questions.
1) What is the warranty on stock battery?
2) If I get the old battery charged to full, will it work normally or should it be replaced?
3) What is the cost of new battery and any recommended alternatives to Exide?
4) What if the same scenario happened while touring? What's the alternate way to start the bike?Last edited by sriharsha_madineni; 09-03-2015, 05:12 PM.sigpic

Jumping the battery seems like the only option. I saw a bunch of YouTube videos which showed that 'dhakka start' method doesn't work with the Duke..Originally posted by SDS17 View PostDon't have answers to your questions, but was the key left in the 'ON' position??

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Leaving the key in 'on' position and killing the engine using the kill switch does consume the battery.. which is most probably what happened in your case.Originally posted by sriharsha_madineni View PostGuys, need some urgent help.

Warranty on battery is 1 Year. The battery warranty card is present towards the end of the owners manual
Getting the battery charged should mostly work. I suggest taking the battery to the svc since they have a trickle charger compared to most local battery wala's who do a quick charge in a couple of hours.
no idea on the price of new battery but i remember someone saying that if you get the battery thru the svc is does cost significantly more than when bought directly from a battery shop. the battery is 8Ah rated battery, and finding this spec seems to be difficult. A few people use the Amaron 9Ah with a minor tweak to the battery box. I have seen this at the ktm banjara svc.
I've never push started the bike so can't comment on if the bike will fire up.. but if you are stuck in such a situation, you can try jump starting using the battery connection from another vehicle. carry those thick cables made specifically for jump starting
Finally, I was told a few months ago by one Mr.Karthik the ASM of ktm for AP/TS that 'Orange assist' was launched in hyderabad.. this as you might know is ktm's road side assistance plan which helps you is breakdown situations. Ask at the svc about this.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Here's the update. I got the battery back, after getting it charged.
Installed it and everything checked out fine.
Parked in office for 4-5 hrs and luckily it didn't create any issues while getting back home.
Parked it overnight and it started without any issues this morning.
I guess, it was just a battery drain. But I'll keep an eye for any anomalies.
I was told that we need to subscribe for it on an annual basis, but nothing much was informed to old customers and even I didn't bother asking.Originally posted by s1d View PostFinally, I was told a few months ago by one Mr.Karthik the ASM of ktm for AP/TS that 'Orange assist' was launched in hyderabad.. this as you might know is ktm's road side assistance plan which helps you is breakdown situations. After reading a few not so good experiences from friends regarding their Orange assistance experience, I think it's better get the bike towed by yourself.sigpic

the battery should hold up normally hereafter, as i suspected it was just a drained battery.Originally posted by sriharsha_madineni View PostHere's the update. I got the battery back, after getting it charged.

yes orange assist is an annual 'membership' for around 800rs i think.. a single tow itself might cost you as much at times if you do it yourself. But as you said, it all depends on luck on what kind of an experience you receive

Allow me some very preliminary and noobish commentary.
The damn thing looks miles better without the stickering. I went through 3 of the PDI's shared here and everything was ship-shape. Its loud and vibey but I never felt uncomfortable with them. Once I learnt the relaxed crouch on the ride home I could hardly feel it. Aural signature is loud but I discerned no rattles or unusual sounds but my ears are essentially novice equipment in this case. It gets bassy when I open the throttle. Speaking of the throttle, its incredibly sensitive. Took me a minute to modulate my inputs. A scary minute it was too.
It ran at an average of 23.5 Kmph on the ride from the showroom to Sakinaka. Now I know I am a noob but I don't need a trip computer to tell me. I stalled it twice but that was my fault. Even at low RPM and the first 3 gears it ran snatch free and the fueling was quite smooth even with my unmodulated inputs. I was glad I was wearing the helmet as bikers at the signals around me would have seen all of my teeth with the mildly crazed grin I was wearing.
Kanchan Auto has been quite alright with my purchase. The sales guy (Siddharth) spent time with me going through the PDI, explained the software on the TC and was helpful in general.

PS. That fugly metal bracket front number plate though..................
Are you from pune coz i saw a black destickered duke near jm road yesterday was that you? What do you call a biker who does not wear a helmet? An organ donor.

I too had the same experience. Kasturba Road SVC simply said there is no towing service! I also didn't press further. The reviews about Orange Assist doesn't inspire confidence either.but nothing much was informed to old customers and even I didn't bother asking.
After reading a few not so good experiences from friends regarding their Orange assistance experience, I think it's better get the bike towed by yourself.
It costed me Rs.1000 in a TATA ACE for a distance of about 15kms when my Duke suffered a breakdown due to clutch hub nut issue.yes orange assist is an annual 'membership' for around 800rs i think.. a single tow itself might cost you as much at times if you do it yourself. But as you said, it all depends on luck on what kind of an experience you receive
I am thinking of buying this (Road Side Assistance) as an 'add-on' at the time of next insurance renewal. Worked pretty well for my car.A lone amateur built the ark. A large group of professionals built the Titanic...
