Hey guys test rode the 390, it was 2015 model...I rode it for hardly 500 mtrs....at the end of the ride...it heated a little bit...after stopping....is this normal..as I live in a hot climate..? It was a display bike which they let me ride.Last edited by kashishverma.46; 02-13-2016, 07:41 PM.

Don't compare test ride bike with brand new ones. My test ride bike had horrible vibrations. I was in Complete doubt over buying the bike. But, needed a bike urgently. So, went ahead & booked it.Originally posted by kashishverma.46 View PostHey guys test rode the 390, it was 2015 model...I rode it for hardly 500 mtrs....at the end of the ride...it heated a little bit...after stopping....is this normal..as I live in a hot climate..? My owned Duke 390 is really smooth (completely opposite the TR bike). & heats only a lil when I stop at my house. Dunno why. Maybe bcoz I slow down during the approach to my house. Remains cool in traffic & office. It's a normal bike.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Ownership Reviews and Experiences
I got my first service done today from Kottayam KTM and I must say that the work and the experience were on par to what I expected. Good response to complaints I had and fairly knowledgeable people as well.
Didn't notice too much of a change with the bike and all. But the power delivery at lower speeds is a little less snatchy. Could be the result of chain adjustment though. The chain was properly cleaned as well before lubing. I did have to clean my rims after getting home, but that's understandable. Over all I'd recommend the Kottayam SVC and may even become a regular there.
I'd still like some advice over a specific issue of mine. I am facing slightly clunky/sticky gear shifts. I was expecting it to be sorted after the oil change and chain tensioning. But it is still noticeable. The main issue is when rapidly downshifting, at some points, the gear lever stays down a little longer and only when I release the clutch does it come back up. Not too often, but often enough for me to notice. Should I give it a few more KMs and see the change?
Had a little incident today. I was riding over a road under construction. It is full of slush and gravel. They had poured water over it to reduce the dust kicking up. Anyways, a bus stopped in front and I was already very slow as I'm babying the tires on rough roads, I decided to pass the bus as there was no oncoming traffic. Just as I was about to finish the pass, the bus started rolling. So, just to make sure I don't stay in the drivers blind spot for too long, I accelerated a little bit (still well below 30 kmph) and upshifted to 3rd I think, baaaaammmmmm....... Powerslide. Scared the shit out of me. I know this thing is powerful and all, but this was just not expected. I guess i should respect the machine a little more than I do. 😀Last edited by ananthu; 02-13-2016, 09:04 PM.Must ride on!

It's pretty good and sturdy I'd say for a parking job!Originally posted by jack_daniels View PostI thought mushroom patches can be done without removing the tire. By a special type of plier and rubber acid/glue. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Also, paddock stand is holding up quite well. Pic attached. But, obviously if u want rock solid base buy the spool version.

official answer: the indian manual recommends to not use any additive.Originally posted by jack_daniels View PostWhich is the best recommended Fuel additive/ FI system cleaner for the Duke 390?
unofficial answer
: these are a couple of additives that have positive reviews from a lot of users i know (and including me) both on cars and bikes
iftex system g (sold at bharat petroleum bunks or even online at rogermotors)
adon p (additive made by total, france and sold at IOC bunks)
use these after the bike has done around 5000km. use it at the recommended dose (normally 1ml per litre of fuel) every other tankful. if you are skeptical, just use it a couple of times and if you don't see any improvement in refinement/fe ..you are free to chuck it.

I've had a similar issue where the gear lever did not spring or return back to its normal position..it had to be nudged back manually. And this happened on the day i took delivery of the bikeOriginally posted by ananthu View PostI'd still like some advice over a specific issue of mine. I am facing slightly clunky/sticky gear shifts. . They checked it and we had to open the clutch side cover and ended up replacing the shift shaft(and another small part of it called "stopper drum comp").. No issues since.
Another fellow member @Ajay Vishwanath also had a similar issue but around after 14k km and he also had the shift shaft. It seems to be an issue on some bikes because i've seen a couple of other ktms have this part replaced.
Your issue might be different, so have the mechanic check it or better, ride another 390 and see if it exhibits similar behavior. Sometimes something as simple as getting the gear shifter adjusted could sort it out.. or maybe its the rider who is the issue

irrespective of the size of the hole, a mushroom patch is always the best method. though i've personally had 3 punctures fixed using the plug in method (the pic you posted) on my d200 rear.. they held up for around 10k km before a massive 4th puncture at around 15k made me replace the tire.Originally posted by Veeral View PostYou Buggers are confusing me 😂😂.
I wish we had an xray machine to check the size of the nail[emoji14]

Thanks. My only concern is will they be able to fit back the tyre properly ?Originally posted by s1d View Post

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Ownership Reviews and Experiences
first check with your svc , they should be able to help you locate a tire shop that does mounting using the machine rather than using the tire levers that most road side guys do.. most car tire shops have this equipment and do mushroom patches.Originally posted by Veeral View PostThanks. the only alignment required would be correct chain adjustment.. to be on safer side you can always have the wheel removed at the svc, carry it to the puncture guy, get the punture fixed and tire mounted on rim and then have the svc mount the entire thing back so that the chain adjustment is not messed up.

I remember reading a few posts regarding that issue right here (been through the entire thread a few times). I'm hoping that my issue is just a shifter adjustment. But I'd keep in mind what you said if a shifter adjustment doesn't address the issue. But as you have said, may be it is just me who needs an adjustment. 😅 I'll see if there is any changes for the next 200-400 km and then take the necessary measures.Must ride on!

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Ownership Reviews and Experiences
Adjust the tie rod for freeplay, see how your shift pattern is, if it's improved, stick with it, if it isn't, try fiddling with the adjusted to the max, and observe how the motorcycle shifts. Even after all this, you feel the shifter sticking, or you have to manually bring the back the lever, up. The spring mechanism should help ratchet back the lever on almost any gear you're on. It should sound with a click and a thud for first gear and smoothly for the higher gears. If you feel the shifter sticks, like it doesn't come back to the position, then you might have to check your shift drum, spring mechanism.Originally posted by ananthu View PostI remember reading a few posts regarding that issue right here (been through the entire thread a few times). I'm assuming it just to be the dust particles.
PS :- Done 530 kms total
Yes, its the dust most of the time. Mere washing the area with bit pressure always solves it for me.
