What is important is to keep the chain lubed at regular (i.e. 500~750km) intervals for good chain life. Your road side mechanic will always have a can of oil (it could be engine oil, used engine oil, gear oil) and you can safely use it. I have used used engine oil 80% of the time to keep my chain lubed and my chain sprocket is due for replacement now at 28k km. I use the sprays only at times like when I am touring or if I am riding in the rains (if you want something that's cheaper, works well, stays on better in rains.. get the nulon grease spray). It's just a mere convenience and their cost doesn't justify my wallet considering I can get a new chain/sprocket set for around 3000rs.

As pointed by others, gear oil is what is mostly recommended (even ktm recommends it). Spray cans are a mere convenience more than anything else.Originally posted by blak bandit 350cc View Post

Which brand gear oil are you using? I am thinking to buy bosch. Also, does it mess up the rear alloy?Originally posted by bikersdream View PostI am using sae 90 oil since last 8kkms and its doing a great. Odo is 12kkms and chain and sprocket are good. I lube every 250kms.
Overall it costed me only 250 rs and still 300ml sae 90 oil remaining.
Take your time and calculate how much you are going yo spend on chain oil sprays keeping in mind the cost of chain and sprockets are less than 4000 rs.

yes they do.. bosch sells a whole range of products including air filters (for some two wheeler's, I remember seeing one for the Dio a couple of years ago), coolant, gear oil/transmission fluid, engine oil etc..Originally posted by leech View PostMayank - Bosch sells lubricants?
And you can use their gear oil for lubricating the chain.. no issues, but make sure to wipe out the excess with a rag.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Ownership Reviews and Experiences
Guys, need a clarification. First batch of 390s did 100 kmph at 5.3k rpm but the later batches did 100 at around 6k rpm. What has been changed ? Is it the sprocket alone or anything else ? If it's the sprocket, were the teeth increased or decreased?

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Ownership Reviews and Experiences
This lube is kinda watery at first and then thickens into a white patty like layer on the chain. The thing I liked about this lube is, it doesn't fling like other chain lubes. When you spray, all you see coming out is water like layer, give it a few seconds and it forms a white fatty layer on the chain. And sourcing this was really hard, I just got this out of luck when I was a spares shopping quite some years back.Originally posted by blak bandit 350cc View Post
I bought this chain lube thats what I got from market.
Can anybody share something about this.since 200 kms I didn't lubed my chain due non availability of lube anywhere in market.
I am going again for motul or tribocor after this finishes.
But you can stick to Tribocor which I use now, pretty much an effective lube.
AFAIK, and if my memory serves me correct, there were no changes to sprocketing to the Duke 390 though there were some changes to the Duke 200. There were quite some updates to the ECU regarding stalling, improper idle et cetera. It all depends on the RPM you can even keep the rev band at the heat above 7500 and still extract 0 to 100 faster or make a lazy shift and shift closing to 6k.Originally posted by jeyessh View PostGuys, need a clarification. Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Ownership Reviews and Experiences
One of the radiator hoses on the left of my 390 has started leaking. It's not the rubber hose but the steel pipe itself. It looks like someone tried hitting it?
Now, Is it absolutely essential to replace the radiator or can I do some jugged? like m-seal?
This happened while I was in Ooty the day before, so I rode back with the same damaged radiator. The coolant level has dropped to min and just stays there. The coolant slightly leaks when the bike is put on the side stand.
How much is a radiator anyway?

A picture of the damage would help us better understand it.Originally posted by chip94 View PostOne of the radiator hoses on the left of my 390 has started leaking. It's not the rubber hose but the steel pipe itself. It looks like someone tried hitting it?

If it's at the bottom part to which the rubber hose connects, then you can try and get it patched/fixed (welded). A car mechanic will be able to guide you to the radiator repair guy, it's aluminium so don't try and get it fixed at some random welder since welding aluminium and radiator repairs is different from regular steel/iron welding.
I doubt mseal will hold up long due to the temperature/pressure.
If you go to the svc, they will probably only replace it, unless you can somehow claim warranty if your bike is under warranty. The radiator iirc costs around Rs.4500

I doubt it ever did 100 @5.3 rpm. iirc it was close to 6k rpm @100kmph in 6th gear. that's what i remember when i rode one more than 2 years ago.Originally posted by jeyessh View PostGuys, need a clarification.
