Not a common thing and not particular to any specific batch etc. AFAIKOriginally posted by chakresh View PostIs that coolant mixing with the oil is a common thing ..or it has been solved with the newer batches. Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle!

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Ownership Reviews and Experiences
Got the stuff changed except the coolant drain.Originally posted by s1d View Postha ha good luck with spares at banjara. and btw these days the waiting time for servicing is around 5 days
by prior appointment.
why 10w60 ? It would be too thick at operating temp and i dont think the clearances on this engine necessitates a w60 grade
I'd say stick to the 10w50 or 20w50 motul 7100 (apparently ktm has asked them not to use even the 300v), and a dose of 'nano energizer' - i've noticed that it makes the engine sound a wee bit more refined/quieter.
they will drain and refill coolant (but not flush the radiator out with water). it hardly takes 10 min to drain and refill.
Not sure of interval for coolant drain. Mine ran more than 35000KMS, so thought of changing.Originally posted by rakshit rana View PostWhat's the recommended interval to drain the coolant? And at what interval chain cleaning and lubing needs to be done?
Chain lubing varies with the use and environments you ride the bike in, generally it 300-400 kms.
I am 100% sure that after cleaning the chain with cleaner lube it with chain lube.Originally posted by xplod566 View PostTribocor is a very good chain lube. Are you sure you are using the chain luebe and not the chain cleaner.
You need to spray a little ,nt much. And it sticks alike a leech trust me.I use it every 1000 Kms and sometimes i still see little bit of spray leftovers.
spraying the lube itself is tricky with tribocor as it is foamy rather than spray like Motul etc. I neither liked its lubing/cleanliness.
Service update on my 390:
1. Changed the sprocket kit (Rs 2700/-): Drum rubber could not be changed as SVC could not find the stock.
2. Changed Accelerator & Clutch Cable (Rs 118/- and Rs 148/- respectively): Changed as old ones were stock with bike and don't want to take a risk.
3. Front and Rear suspension protectors ( Rs 55/- each and Rs 45/- Respectively): Just to avoid any environmental damage to suspension.
4. Engine oil (Xado 10w60 Rs 1300/ ltr): Rode around 200 KMS since oil change. Apart from reduced heat from left side (Near exhaust pipe), could not find major change in refinement or smoothness. Probably replaced chain is the key factor in smooth gear shifts and less noise from the bike.2007 - Hero Honda CBZ Xtreme

now that is awesome. Where can we order that kit? That looks like DIY heaven.Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostMushroom plugs don't really require removal of the tire, if the person installing the tire has the proper tools of course. Any nail bits, metal bits, over time corrode and amplify the point of impact. Say for example, a nail/screw/whatever metal crap that looks benign, can over time, make the point of puncture bigger and can take you when you least expect. The worst type of metal puncture is a sideways puncture, say acute angle puncture, ignoring this over time, will make the puncture hole bigger rendering the tire useless. Small or bit, if it's a metal in there, you get it out of there.
Here is a video I came across on how mushroom puncture kit works.

Re: Duke 390 for India Backroads
Hi Guys,
I am planning to buy a bike with 2.5lacs as budget. I have short listed D390, D200, Mojo, CBR 250 and TNT25.
Would you please tell me the range of D390 and D200 on a tank full?
My main use is office commute and occasional touring. So long range would be boon in both the scenarios.
Also would like to know if there is any shop in Bangalore for the pillion seat modification as i would be accompanied by my better half on tours and city travel as well.
Thanks in Advance.

Re: Duke 390 for India Backroads
For pillion comfort, Dukes are not recommended. But, it depends how often you'll ride pillion. Also, nowadays pillions are used to riding on Dukes. R15s, etc. But, Duke at least has a dedicated pillion seat rather than the rear cowls of other track-focused bikes. But, yes sitting sideways is not possible.!Originally posted by sakumart View PostHi Guys,

Tank range of Duke 390: 300-320 kms.
This bike is gud for touring as well as city rides.
Exactly the same observations as mine. It is indeed a gr8 bike.!Originally posted by Lucien Lewis View PostJust did a few k kms on a Duke. What a wonderful little bike! Lots of power, super light neutral handling, flawless abs, great on and off road, what's not to like? The seat. But that can be fixed. Other than that this thing is aces!

300Kms is good.
I was thinking in the range of 200 -250kms.
Do you know any shops where we can get the seat modification done?

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Ownership Reviews and Experiences
Hey, Balgi, now I am unsure if we even get this kit in India unfortunately. Most guys wouldn't even know what this type of a puncture system is and how it works. If you have any friends who live abroad, perhaps you can try your luck, but this is one handy device.Originally posted by Balgi View Postnow that is awesome. Where can we order that kit? Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.
THE END

You are right. I searched high and low on all online stores foreign and domestic. I searched primarily around ebay.in, ebay.co.uk and ebay.com but it yielded no result. I will ask some of my friends in the US if they have seen it there. But thanks for that video all the same, now I know what I wanna buy for myself on my birthday.Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostHey, Balgi, now I am unsure if we even get this kit in India unfortunately. Well brother truth be told I find your views on the duke's tank range a tad optimistic. At best on my sanest riding (I'm not a bad rider or a rash and fast one to begin with) I got a tank range of about 290+ but nothing like 300-320 ever but I agree with the rest of what you said. oh and btw riding sideways on a duke is possible but really only someone who takes it up as a challenge would do it because it is not comfortable.Originally posted by jack_daniels View PostFor pillion comfort, Dukes are not recommended. Very true. The seat is the only let down............................... That is if you've never ridden an RC390.Originally posted by Lucien Lewis View PostJust did a few k kms on a Duke. the seat on that thing is a joke and not a very good one. But for those planning on keeping the bike I personally would recommend you take the seat cover off and replace the cushion with a gel seat trust me its doable and its a very sensible investment.

Bro as any other member here will advice you I suggest you test ride all these bikes if possible or atleast watch the online review videos. But if I were to add my two cents I'd say if you like raw power that just wants to pull your arms out of their sockets get either one of the dukes. If you want bullet proof reliability and a smooth mill get the cbr (Tad overpriced), If you want to have something different than the rest get TNT25 and for just comfortable touring, torque and possibly one of the best set of tyres on a bike in India as stock I suggest you get mojo.
As for tank range I suppose speaking optimistically I'd say the D390 can do 290+ kms on one full tank with just enough fuel left to get you to the (very) nearest fuel bunk and the D200 can do about 320-330 kms on one tank.

Re: Duke 390 for India Backroads
I commute everyday on my RC390 and I get a range of 150Kms with a full tank before the Low Fuel Level indicator comes on. The Low Fuel Level comes on when there's approximately 2L remaining in the tank and it is advised not to ride too long with this. So the Duke 390 has a tank capacity greater by 1L so expect somewhere around 180-200kms with one full tank.Originally posted by sakumart View PostHi Guys,

A friend of mine owns a Duke 200 and he is very gentle on the throttle and gets around 200-230Kms with a full tank before the Low Fuel Warning comes on.
This is only for commutes in Bangalore Traffic. The figures will be better on the highways.

Re: Duke 390 for India Backroads
This is taking into consideration adulterated fuel. I take fuel from a station directly outside an oil refinery which gives around 95% pure fuel. That translates into around 300 kms of tank range. Dunno why ppl are quoting such low tank range. It can't be as low as 150 kms.Originally posted by thrustrev View PostI commute everyday on my RC390 and I get a range of 150Kms with a full tank before the Low Fuel Level indicator comes on. I mean I myself did around 150 kms from my last full tank & it is showing 3 bars still left. So, you can get the idea.
