Guys, dont let the heating issuea and the tyre expenses bother you. Its a very good bike for the price you pay. Yes, every bike has its nuances. The exhilarating feeling you get on the bike, where you point at a place on the road and reaching there in time you expect it to, according to me, is priceless. Dont let anything dissuade you from the purchase. Proud owner for the past 2 years. Wont want to change a thing.

I have the new model as you're aware. There's no overheating. I have ridden from day 1 in heavy traffic. Yes it gets hot, but the bars are under normal heat condition, it hasn't flashed warning of high coolant, so don't worry too much. It'll heat but for normal reasons behind it being a single cylinder 375CC engine. Take care & decide well

Also seems many are selling their bikes within 3-6 months of ownership. So either it's overheating or perhaps the low fuel efficiency.
When I was looking around for used ones, I hardly came across a model newer than 2014! No, people don't really sell that quick, but I am talking of Mumbai! Maybe your area is different. Here I see even week old RS 200's being sold, went to the bottom of the issue and it is the weight to do with most of it and then lack of power.

Going slightly more enthusiastic on the throttle and maintaining speeds of 120kmph returned around 32kmpl as per the Console. But by the time I hit reserve, I had a lot of changes in riding style and it did involve quite a lot of traffic. I got a healthy Range of 205Kms which translates to about 27kmpl (7.5L is what it took to fill it to the brim again).

I do the same and 80% of my ride is highway, however, most have advised me it's new so no need to panic, let the bike do a first service and 1 - 1.5K KMS and then take a call!

I am in bangalore and have been checking OLX since 2 months now. At least 3-4 2015 models between 3k to 7k kms avaliable all the time. And they are fast moving. The good ones are gone in days if not hours but others take their place equally fast.

I am sure the bike is great but just wondering what's wrong. And mind you bangalore is comparitively cooler place

Well, find out the reasons from a few sellers, I did the same when I was going in for the RS200 and then backed out because -

Was Heavy - Took a test ride on another owners bike and it was heavy indeed!

So yes, then I went ahead and approached Olx sellers and dealers as well. All said they were selling because -

They wanted money (No one would buy one if they had a money issue anyways)
Wanted to upgrade to the Duke (They knew the specs of the RS before buying one)
Going abroad (Not all go abroad for fun at the same time)

So there was something more, then on XBHP I discovered people talking about the weight issue!

So keeping in mind the Duke and being an owner myself*. There are no issues, yes there are cons, but that's owing to the nature of the bike. It's a monster not a baby, so you got to keep engine heat in mind. It's not a bike for heavy traffic commuting or big mileage. But if your ride involves decent open highway riding, then it cools to normal!

So get a bike that meets needs! Cause there's no point getting something that doesn't solve the purpose

This bike is awesome.. really secured bike and it will give you confidence when you are on high speed. For me its a steal deal. I dont like to drive my Wagonr car. It seems powerless to me after I started riding Duke 390.

If you got any doubts let me know I can try it on my bike and show you. Ask everybudy but decide your self only..what are your requirements?

            > Do you need fast bike?

            > You dont care about FE?
            > Will you not carry all the things on the bike like enfields? Dont take pillion and any more luggage together..yes you can use saddle bags for that.

Ok then this bike is for you.

Duke has not so long length so keeping pillion only will use all space.

Let me know your requirements in detail so I can tell you if this bike is for you or not.

If you are a lot concerned about these two issues then consider the rc390 i guess

I usually fill my tank full n ride it and when I get it filled up again I see how much litre is filled
Then I divide the number of kms driven by the litre of fuel filled
And that's how it shows 14.45 last time
Console also shows show what near it too

It's usually cause I get stuck in jams here all the time and stop and slow go traffic cause of which I always have to hold the clutch

I haven't seen the official PowerParts India catalogue, but it might be available. Else some super bike store may stock it or procure it for you if ordered. If you have somebody visiting from the USA or Europe, a few web stores are dedicated to KTM PowerParts and other aftermarket parts, like ktmtwins.com, ktmupgrades, etc. When I was looking for PowerParts adjustable brake and clutch levers, the rates of these online stores in foreign markets almost was equal to the official prices offered by KTM. You can check these stores out for the exact rotor and confirm prices.

I agree man. In fact, when I test rode the Duke and RC 200, I loved the proportionate bite and feedback provided by both front and rear brakes. ABS definitely has a role in the inadequate performance of the 390 braking system. But it saves lives. As reported by others, changing to sintered pads improves performance and especially the bite. The stock rotors wouldn't last long though, I heard around 8 to 10 K kms. But it's half the price of these pads !

But for starters, I'd recommened upgrading to the EBC HH Sintered brake pads, though they cost upwards of 2500/pair, it's gotten nothing but praises from folks who've used it abroad with the stock rotor and MC.

Again, these PP are totally justified if you're a frequent track junkie, where these upgrades really do mean business, as they are meant to. If you're a commuter and are looking for "one finger" braking, EBC should be your best bet.

True that. Phil was one of the first to try drastic brake system mods. Subsequent insights by other members and vendors in the duke390forum suggest to go with Brembo RCS 15 master cylinder kit, as it is built for best performance in a sporty road ride. The RCS 19 takes much longer to 'warm up' to bring out its best, which is only possible on track. It is meant to withstand higher temperatures and still have no brake fade. For our daily sporty needs, as you pointed out, the sintered pads along with regular bleeding would be effective. A bigger rotor can be added later if required.

On a different note, you read almost all posts in the entire forum VJ , do you have any idea whether the person who replaced the 390's front reservoir and/or master cylinder with that of a Bullet Classic has made any updates regarding this mod. Maybe I read it on TeamBhp. I'll also search there.

The Duke does heat up. The first time I rode mine wearing shorts it felt really hot [emoji4]. You will get used to it. It is quite pleasant in the winters though. I always wear riding pants now so I am used to the heat.

I did see some options for rotors on aliexpress. But do not trust the quality. I dont wanna risk it. But i did buy blings from Aliexpress, quality is good and way too cheap compared to powerparts.

Btw how long does brake pads last ? Normal vs EBC ?

These guys are the official importers of these pads in India. Sintered brake pads last quite a long time compared to the stock ones. PM them on their Facebook page, they will guide you with the prices and shipping. Last I checked was 2.5k per pair

not really TH, in fact would love to scan through all the post, but I am making use of the limited time available on hands. Regarding the bullet mod, I am clueless here, a couple of chaps have in fact replaced their MC and installed hydraulic clutch systems. But, will keep it posted, if I come across the topic.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                      The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                      THE END

35000 KMs update on my 390 Duke

                        1. Changed the front Metzler (Came with the bike) at 32000 KMs. Using Michelin PSR on front. Brought for Rs 4000 and fitting Rs 100.
                        2. Changed both front and rear brake pads at 30000 KMs.
                        3. Chain and sprocket set is still with the one came with bike. Though it is showing signs of replacement, will see it for another 1000 KMs.
                        4. No major issues with bike but Coolant level drops below MIN every 15 days. Have to get this checked.
                        5. Slight drop of mileage from 29-30 kmpl to 27 kmpl. Probably the chain and sprocket set is playing the role.
                        6. Chain lube is 90W Gear Oil. Not using any Chain lube/sprays.
                        7. Pilot lamp gave off. Changed it with new Blue color (Ordered white but was delivered Blue). It is very bright TBH.
                        8. RVMs were changed to RTR ones around 27000 KMs back. Very happy with them.
                        9. Rear suspension was changed as previous one was leaking oil. New suspension comes with protective cover. Price Rs 4200~

                        Further changes planned:

                        1. Will try XADO 10W40 engine oil next.
                        2. Replace Clutch and Throttle cables (Just for peace of mind, otherwise they are good).
                        3. Drain coolant completely and refill fresh.
                        4. DIY for reflective strips.

Feedback after 2 Years and 3 Months of Ownership:

I am very happy with the bike. It has been largely niggle free (apart from Fuel pump and stator coil replacement).
A.S.S. from KTM has been mixed feeling, but overall it is OK.

Fun/KM is very good on this bike.

                        Couple of Pics.

Changing the front tire is headache!!!
