Waiting for the light upgrade from your end. Your twin HID's are very useful during night riding. It looks like a car's headlight from a distance. Way to go man.

I had both Suzki & TVS Fiero with me & currently ride a TVS one. The difference I felt personally was that the Suzuki was light in weight & was very flickable (my personal opinion though). The sound of the Suzuki exhaust is much much better than the TVS exhaust & that was the reason I swapped the Suzuki silencer with my TVS silencer when I sold off the other one.

I really love the exhaust note & yes the 2 Bosch horns(as Nano mentioned) that I try to sync with the exhaust.

Guys let's get one thing straight first.Let's not confuse each other over the fiero derivatives.So here on let's not call the different models as "fiero".

1. Classic fiero = SUZUKI FIERO or TVS FIERO.Megaphonic silerncers

2. F2 or FX Not Meghaphonic silencer.

I own a SUZUKI FIERO and i have taken apart both the silencers of the SUZUKI FIERO and TVS FIERO .There's no difference mechanically or in sound.

Fiero F2 and FX are both same with only changes in design.So they both share the same mechanicals and electrical.

If i remember correctly ,you had a FX and a SUZUKI FIERO right? So you have put the meghaphonic silencer of the classic fiero to your FX?

I have played around with the silencer a lot. My friend bought a TVS fiero a few months after mine and at that time i wanted to know whether these bikes had catalytic converters .The thing is the foreman at the TVS ASS was an ass and he told me that there indeed was a catalytic converter in the classic fiero silencer ,so i took apart both the bike's silencers to find the silencers had no catalytic converters!!!!

Then i took off the baffle of the silencer for some time and then got ambitious and even put a Bullet's ROCKET SILENCER ,which i still have with me

Back then ,that is in 2002 the mechs and i had no idea of up-jetting and you can imagine how lean the bike was running as i had taken off the baffle of the BULLET ROCKET SILENCER too You guys can imagine how loud it was i have no idea what my neighbors opinion was of my bike was back then

Then as to the reason why i got back to the original silencer of my bike was, on two occasions the bike(being a female) got jealous and burnt the high heels of the girls who were with me on the tours First time the girl had sat with her high heel resting on the angled silencer(stupid mech's idea to angle it) and when she got off for the first time on that ride out of town .It had been like 40 kms like that and she started limping !!! and when she looked down to realize that a good 2 inches of her heel was sticking to the silencer !!! and to make matters worse i started laughing at what the bike had done!! so you can imagine how much deep s#!t i was in for our over 2 day stay at the hillstation of madikeri !!!!

Then on the second occasion she(my bike) got jealous once again when i had taken another girl(obviously ) for a day's trip outside town and after the hill climb of the Chamundi hills when she got off the bike to visit the Mother Goddess ,she also ended up almost falling on her face !!! as a good part of her heel was sticking to the silencer!!!! and me being me i ended up laughing uncontrollably and you can imagine the rest Needless to say the Mother Goddess(girl accompanying me ) was mad at me. and i had no choice but to remove the ROCKET SILENCER!!

I had a Suzuki Fiero(2nd owner) which my dad sold off couple of years back and bought a Fiero FX then. In Nov 2002 I bought a brand new TVS Fiero which I currently ride.

I have not swapped the Classic silencer with FX. Infact I swapped it with the Suzuki Fiero when it was sold off. FX has the stock silent silencer.

So currently I have a Classic Fiero & a FX.

I guess that was the occasion I read, laughed and advised you to stick to stock silencer...or you will cause harm to your ladies(bike and friends)......and thus came to know you too.

Yeah the rocket silencer of the bullet was proving costly for my pocket(high heels are costlier than my riding boots i guess) and more importantly my love life too !

more is never enough, a 35w hid is brighter than a 100w halo bulb, i am running 2 X 35w hids and still i am selling them away so that i can upgrade to something better.
something even more powerful and brighter..
keep things easy, the top 4 poles out of 7 in your coil are the lighting phase, just ask your coil guy to rewind the headlight phase only the first 4 poles to a thicker wire say 18 or 17 guage, but remember as your using stock RR unit, you will need it to have EQUAL no of turns in of the new wire, as it is in stock.

your bulb socket is 9004 socket, 55w as well as 100w are available is than socket, or you can just cut that off and replace it with a H4 socket...
thus bulb hunting will be much easier...
bulbs are not expensive anyways...

Lets see, its not a big problem though, maybe I'll wait for a few days and then get it done, its a pain opening up the entire thing again and again...
i would just keep it as it is, if this damages my con-rod bearings due to this, i would rather change my entire con-rod later, its better than to keep opening it up again and again and paying for labor,oil and other miscellaneous stuff , if you know what i mean..

Yesterday i rode my bike for 478 kms
my first ever this long ride with this bike, and trust me guys, all this while i was extremely under estimating this bike...
180 bore bit can BEAT a stock rtr 180
or maybe the rtr 180 guy didn't know how to ride properly..

I have prior exp of coil rewinding & If I do, I will get it done from reputed auto electrician Ruby Electricals in bangalore & they are famous for this rewinding stuff.

In my CBZ Ruby had used 19guage wire & changed the RR, & it was happily lighting 90/100W without any Naatak, & I used to get full brightness at 5k rpm which was very good for Highway riding.

Coming to Holder type, can you tell me if this is HS1 type of something like dat, I am not very much familiar with socket no's etc.

I have round doom from FX/ Star city which I am unsure which one is that off, but I am trying to keep my bike stock, cos If I start changing from one thing I will end up with changing more parts which I do not wish to do so with my fiero.

Lemme first try my luck with 55w bulb on current set up on AC current, I have another idea which my mech had told me sometime back , what if I reduce the wattage of bulb in brake light by 10w & put 55W bulb up front

In all bikes,the voltage produced at idle is less and as the RPM crosses 2K the voltage is as per spec..To compensate for the lower volts at lower RPM a little bit of extra winding is already done in Stock condition,and the stock Regulator regulates by posing as a variable resistance ,shunting the Voltage and Current to ground,at higher RPM.
When a Thicker Gauge wire is wound the resultant higher AMPERE current must be shunted to ground for regulation. This will put an additional strain ,which will produce HEAT in the regulator leading to it's failure.
Hence it is advisable to upgrade the regulator ,with a higher ampere rating also while rewinding the staor with thicker wire.

as ruby is closer, rather do a full DC setup and run 55w bulb or even a HID...
they make custom rr's too to support their rewinding and stuff...

9004 was the name of the socket itself, not the number..

sockets are named in the following manner





so yours is 9004 (stock) and the FX's headlamp has H4 socket, which even translates to HS1 or HB5...
its all called as H4.

but you really don't need to change your headlamp to support that socket as i said earlier, that 55w bulb as well as HID bulbs will be available for your current 9004 socket itself....
thus will cut your job of changing the headlamp.

all the 2 phase stock RR units work with one of the coil output ends grounded and works only as a Half wave rectifier...
however in Full DC conversion almost every rr unit (which i have come across) works in full wave, thus there's no grounding needed to suppress the amps..

but, do we really get higher capacity 2 phase RR unit which runs on our bikes with our stock pattern coil with a thicker wire ??

the rr that i am running takes upto 20 amps
its full wave...

bike cannot produce more than 9 amps with my current winding.
if i use a fatter wire to produce say about 12 amps, then there's a voltage drop.

thus i wished to have just 1 extra pole (rtr's stator) to produce 12+ amps without voltage drop..
lets keep that apart...

as i was saying earlier, yesterday i went to Lavasa and my round trip was 478 kms, was real fun and my first ever ride (this long in a day) with this bike so far..

firstly, i would like to say, 180 bore kit is boon on the highways, the acceleration is simply outstanding, the handlebar was amazing and provided great confidence (thanks gixxer) and i used my entire tyre's round surface while negotiating corners in that hilly area...

since i am a comparatively newer (in-experienced) rider than i guess all of you guys, i got to learn a great amount of things about the bike, about the highways and about myself too. By riding this long

i learnt an important lesson of the term "Never overtake from the left"

there was an uphill climb on the NH3 and i was roughly at 80, after reaching the apex, i could see a truck hardly 30~40 mts away and an empty road ahead.
i tried to overtake the truck from the right, but it didn't let me go, i even went to the wrong side (there was no oncoming vehicle) but still the truck didn't let me go ! was pushing me towards the right shoulder of the road..

i slowed down, came back behind the truck, went to the left and as soon as i was on the left of the truck (the only time i could see the road, as the truck was blocking my view ahead) i suddenly saw another big truck, crashed, lying on the road hardly 10 meters away...


i could brake soo hard without a wheel lock that the rear wheel was terribly fishtailing and i somehow managed to stop just an inch before contact.

that truck guy which wasn't letting me go , was just avoiding the roadblock caused due to the crashed truck on the road, i though he was having grudges against me !!

thanks again to gixxer for the handlebar suggestion that i stopped without any wheel locks (i could say this a million times more)

learnt how to twist the bike well, how to trust the tires and not underestimate them, neither the engine..

bike needs to be kept on the higher revs to climb hills, as the power-band has moved up, and the vibrations at say about 180kms of the distance, pulled out both the bolts of my GB sprocket's plastic cover.

as the cover was dancing over my chain with the gear lever holding it, i though its some unusual noise from my engine and I've broken say a gearbox or something, but after stopping was happy to know that none of that sort had happened..
i had tools, just removed the gear knob, pulled the cover out, put the gear knob back, and was off again...

i wonder how did this happen !!
it wasn't like I've kept the bolts loose or forgotten to attach all of them.

after that there was no issues at all, the hotter the bike became, the smother it turned, learnt how to corner well, got a real good road sense as they put it...

also learnt that a fiero doesn't need rest, it can go on and on and on, its ME who needs rest too, for refreshments as well as to freshen up, as there was a time when i almost slept on the bike, realized it when a truck passed me inches away and woke me up, happens when you sleep at 3:30 am and get up at 4:30 am to go to the long ride was the most scary feeling so far....
however its almost 2:30 now, you all must have realized how my regular sleeping time !!!

BTW, there was a new upcoming bike that i saw which was camouflaged with white something, Near the BAJAJ assembly line, the rider was riding it like crazy, it was a NINJA 650R (bikers can see through the covers right)
even happen to see an ER-6N alongside it in a similar fashion, both of the riders were on drugs i believe..
i hope these 2 kwackers come soon..

and also my bike Clocked a complete 60k....
yippeee !!!

was real fun to use the entire tyre's rounded profile to corner, and to ride at good speeds and enjoy the weather under the leather !!

its time to service soon.
the things i need to do are as follows :-

Get my fuel guage to full working mode, as it does sometimes and sometimes doesn't

replace the front left indicator bulb as its not glowing

remove the front sprocket and replace the O-Ring which holds the sprocket as it leaks oil from that place when newly put, which i realized after removing the GB sprocket's cover (is it happening due to something else ??).

Get my battery replaced as its DEAD and isn't holding charge anymore, gravity is dead.

i guess i need to change the entire wiring of the bike...

and due to lack of cash, my light upgrade is still at a standstill.

so lets see when all of this can be done successfully...

nano,good to see you have graduated from nanoriding to micro riding.Has the knocking issue sorted out?What about the leakage i had pointed out during our panvel g2G?

@Nano :- nice ride and writeup. Which tyres do you have? If possible try the Michelins and cornering will be a totally different experience.

Voltage regulation

The output voltage of an Alternator in a car is regulated by controlling the rotor current,and in Bikes by shunting the excess voltage and current to ground.The result is the same but the methods are not same.A shunt regulator always bypasses excess power to ground.
In bikes with AC regulators the regulation is by bypassing ac volts and current every half cycle to ground
In bikes with DC regulators, the incoming AC voltage is regulated by shunting to ground on both cycles(positive and negative), and then rectified to give DC.
