My point was not that, All I meant was that even the Mighty performing RD were using Drum brakes & were able to stop, then what's the big deal of having only drum brakes in Puny Fiero

To each his own, you might not be comfortable with only drum but that doesn"t mean that everybody should be.

Who doesn't want a better braking bike, but we might also want to consider the cost involved too..

            • Bro,don't take it wrongly. What i'd do if i were in your place is,i'd get my priorities correct.I'd first get the used disc brake set up and then think of other mods like coil winding etc.

The biggest investment on my bike till now has been 7000Rs on the disc brake set up,that too because i rammed into a bike which in turn had rammed the auto ahead of it because as you know autos never have brake lights and my parents insisted on getting it done if i wanted to ride the bike in Bangalore.

Finally after a long delay and search. It seems like my girl will get a bigger carb.
Today ,the spares dealer once again prolonged it,so as a last grasp try before heading for shivajinagar's used market,me and Abhi thought of asking around whether the Ruby electricals guy knew where we can find one.Incidentally ,Ruby electricals guy is a friend of Abhi,so we told him about the missing problem and he also remembered checking the electricals of my bike a few months back. Then he told us that the mechanic next to his shop had a couple of carbs and he told him to show them to us.We saw the carbs, one was a 26mm one and the other a 29mm .I checked the slide and the internals and it seemed ok.As it was raining cats and dogs ,then again the mech was busy too ,so my girl will get the bigger 29mm carb on monday. The price agreed is 1000 bucks.
                Congrats! Finally!

Congrats. I like your bike. I wanna check out the light. yeah FX is a good looking bike bro. I sometimes wish I had opted for it instead of F2-I was told it was launching in a week's time when I bought my bike. But I couldn't wait any longer. Anyway, I do have FX's handle bar end weights on my bike!

You can see the delight in her face right?now that she's not a virgin anymore! Congratulations bro,for getting her a much needed make-over.

Yes, I was surprised to see one bicycle with a cchotu disc the other day!
Anyway, the 1st mod that any RD restorer does is to fit in discs-if possible even 2 in the front, for the kind of power that bike has!

Anyway, @All: One update from me-I happened to go to Koti area for some work&thought why not get my bike's electricals checked.
I found the Auto Electrical works area&went to one shop with recommendation. Got the socket&sprocket cover removed by a mechanic beside the shop. Seat, side panels etc. obviously removed as well.
Result was 3 sockets has turned into dust (melted), and the starter coil had gone weak. So they replaced the sockets, especially the one connecting to the CDI was totally in pieces, and that was maybe the cause for idle RPM fluctuation, since that is the one the RPM meter is connected to.
Got the starter coil rewound, and now the bike is running healthy I feel. RPM does fluctuate a bit at around 6K RPM, but that is not an electrical issue. I didn't wanna get the meter opened up, though the meter repair shop was also nearby.
Also got the RR, battery etc.checked&decided to pamper her a bit by giving her indicator buzzers.
                Total cost incurred: Rs.600
                Breakup as under:
                Coil rewinding: Rs.240
                4 sockets: Rs.100
                Electrician labor: Rs.100
                Mechanic labor: Rs.100
1 rubber bush for seat bolt: Rs.10
                Indicator buzzers: Rs.40
                Battery checkup: Rs.10

Good thing bro,i'm no expert on electrical matters but i certainly can understand melted connectors causing problems.Maybe others here can comment on the things done and their cost.To me the cost seems rather cheap.Good thing that finally the gremlins in the electricals are gone.

I am not saying this as this is not something great, both of my bikes were only drum version & have driven both of them for close to 1.4lakh kms & Never ever I felt the need of Disc brake really, But I do also know that it is much better than Drum version.. Ultimately it boils down to how we make use of what we have in the best way possible

I know it's not a big deal that my mudguard makes that crash-like sound ... however, it's embarrassing and irritating. So tell me which one is the best fit if the OEM mudguard is not available? Shogun, Samurai, Pulsar (which pulsar?) or any other.

Why get it done if the bike doesn't need it? I also had considered getting an electric starter assembly a couple of years back when I replaced the battery, but found out it wouldn't be worthwhile.

I am not saying this as this is not something great, both of my bikes were only drum version & have driven both of them for close to 1.4lakh kms & Never ever I felt the need of Disc brake really, But I do also know that it is much better than Drum version.. You are right-no point in spending too much money on an old bike. But if a disc assembly comes for cheap, it can be considered. Anything more than 2-3K&it does not justify the cost, keeping the age of the bike in mind.

Yeah, I also had the same cost in mind, initially he told me that he is replacing, then I found that it was covered with something black. I have been checking the RPM flucutation&it is minimal, only if the throttle is held constant for too long around the 6K range. But I'm positive that the wet stalling issue has finally been resolved. Balls to the showroom mechanic who asked me to replace the magnet assembly!

I would say you are very loyal to Ruby. He is looting people wrt rewinding. In Mysore also the cost for rewinding is just 400rs. The material required will cost around 200rs max. And 200rs labor. But here !!

@Gixxer - Bro, even I agree that Disc setup is very much a advantage but considering the money involved and age of bike need to think. Not only him, even I have stepped back for Disc setup on my Bullet as the cost involved is whopping close to 15grands which includes 6grands for latest forks, 8grands for disc brakes and 1grand for labor. For the weight of Bullet, I definitely need disc but is it worth spending so much for a 1980 Bullet.
Anyways I will be doing the upgrades step by step. Got the latest Bull's clutch plates and the Classic's 18" rim. Now the pickup of the bike is way better. Was almost in a stage of hating it but now giving second thought to hate

                              • I don't know why Gixxer hasn't updated anything here after our attempt to fix BS29 carb for his bike.

Well the outcome is nil, Gixxer's bike has missing in Mid range in BS26 carb with 115 main Jet now & to overcome this problem he was trying to put a bigger carb & do jetting to suit his requirement.

We tried the BS29 carb yesterday evening & with this carb on 110 Main jet, the missing seems to coming in Initial revs itself & then we tried swapping the carb of mine to his to check if it is seriously Jetting problem & to our surprise his bike revved the nuts of it in all the RPM range without any missing what so ever.

After this several thoughts ran over our mind, we thought of buying the BS29 carb & changing pilot Jets to get rid of missing in Initital revs & on the other hand Gixxer was pissed off due to this & was thinking of going in for a new one Instead of taking chances with used ones.

The mech was afraid of taking any chacne of Jetting, he said he wil have to open the engine head & check it thoroughly & all , but after the bike picked up good without missing in stock set up, he changed his diaologue saying sir get me full stock set up & I will get done the tuning for you.

Now the ball is in Gixxer's court, Either we can buy the BS29 carb & do some trial & error with pilot jets or go for a brand new one from bajaj showroom.
