Rs. 350 Here in Mumbai they don't sell below Rs. 600. Showroom guys sell for Rs. 700 and local shops sell for Rs. 600 or so.

My Review of Yamaha FZS v2

Three months back when i decide to buy a new bike, there were lots of options present in the market for a 150 cc segment. i went on and rode pulsar, apache, CB, fz and newly soon to be released Gixxer and it was only fzs which stood out of each. None of other bike were as fun as this one, no doubt bike are great as well i once myself wanted to get pulsar but Yamaha was much sportier and good looking, the bulky tank, the handle bar and especially the wide tyre sealed it for me and i bought Yamaha FZS v2. I had to spent 88500 (in Gurgaon) for the beast which is most costly in this segment but totally worth it.

I would not go deep in specifications and would only share my experience with the bike. Till now I have ridden 2000 km with 4 days office ride and occasional long highway rides on weekends.

        Looks and graphics

I bought a FZS V2 black with green stripes which looks very good but it’s just a personal choice. Looks wise I like it with the visor and dual tone green graphics on the tyre rims, the changed headlight looks phenomenal, most ppl don’t like it but I find the sharp edges going good with the overall design, looks refreshing. The bike looks distinguish it from the rest, the tank just looks amazing with the bulkiness and dual colour scheme (black and green) with vinyl. The wide handle bar is just makes me go fast. Everybody must have looked at pics and have good idea about how it looks .i will share mine

The huge tyre hugger at the back seems logical for Indian streets but simply spoils the look from the back, if there would have been the bike saree or something minimalistic, things would have looked better . I also didn’t liked the tail light as well just too small and squarely thing. The exhaust looks good with the mix of metal and Plastics.

        Engine and performance

So all the story comes down to this part and its pretty AMAZING with problems of its own.
It’s a fuel injected 149 cc powered with Yamaha blue core technology. The 149 cc is a step down from fz but believe me guys its definitely not underpowered. It runs smooth and is ultra-responsive.
Surely you cant compare with likeness of duke responsiveness but as soon as you throttle its right on it.

Initially when I bought the bike there was almost no sound and vibration at all in the engine but it changed after few weeks, there was little annoying sound which comes from engine which is due to so call fuel injection system(as told by Service guys ) and after the first servicing the engine became noisy and bursty. The sound is not something very very loud but became prominent with higher speed gears/RPMs. Overall its smooth and sounds good, yes even after the loudness.

Shifting gears is quite clicky and sturdy. Out of five gear transmission I love the 3rd and 4th , these are the gears when bike is in most power and smoothness , just amazing to ride . Bike feels most constrained in 5Th gear . its not like it just dies as people have been saying it goes till 115-118 but you can sense the stress. Yes the engine is in stress at higher speed but it takes you to its limit. I am a city rider so I have no problem with the stress because I hardly go beyond 100 or max 105. Its best ridden till 80-90 , which Is good for me. If you want to ride it beyond 100 this bike is not for you, go for duke.

        Mileage

There was a lot of talk about the new designed engine “fuel injection” “blue core tech” , honestly I am not familiar about the bike terminologies but yes surely “ bhai ye bike mileage zaroor date hai ”
initially the average was around 35 but after the first service it went up drastically , I am getting 45+ mileage constantly, one of my fried even claimed to have it around 50(his office near highway) .

        Ride quality and Handling

Handling is one the thing that I absolutely love about the bike. The turning radius is small but it hardly impacts the riding quality. The wide handle bar tyres are just amazing. The best parts of the bike, no matter which surface I am ridding there were no grip issues, sometimes due to hard-braking the tyres did skid but they were always amazing to ride. Overtaking, cornering is just butter smooth, I have no fear of falling or getting off-track with it.(Caution advised)

but tyres are not the only thing responsible for great handling, the aggressive seating arrangement and the brakes just add sweetness to it. Rear brakes are drum and front are discs, though I would have loved rear discs as well but drum brakes also does the trick. The front discs are very good and the combination of front and back have a way better stopping radius. I use rear to slow the bike and front to stop it. Rear brakes should have been better.

The seat is comfortable due to split seats. The second seat is wide and comfortable, which also have some store space underneath it, nothing huge just for the paper work.
Ride quality is also supreme because of the good suspension, Yamaha supposedly designed a new frame, made is lighter and so on …. all the technical details blah blah but on road these things works quite well as a the bike is quite stable and there were less bumps felt .

So Combination of tyres, brakes and suspension truly make it the lord of the streets

        Final View

This bike looks amazing, runs fast, superior handling but it have its fair share of shortcoming s as well. This bike is good for city riding but not for racing , I don’t calculate how much time it takes in going in 0-60 but I know when I am ready to go and throttle it just rushes.

So Overall Very good bike to ride highly recommended.
Sorry in case I miss anything

Nice review mate. Agreed on the costly part. But its bang for buck. And I have pulled this bike to 110 only once. But yeah the power us lacking there.

Get the fuel sensor changed. This has been a trademark issue in all FZ, irrespective of whichever FZ you own :banghead:

If the SVC cannot do anything, who will resolve the issues??

Tell them patiently or send the same image to Yamaha and get things done. Do it ASAP before time runs out.

                      • Lord of Street Version 2.0(Yamaha FZS FI)

                        Hello All,

This will be my first thread and my 2nd yamaha bike.(1st one being Gladiator SS 2008 model). I have driven Yamaha Gladiator for around 47000Kms and i enjoyed riding the same from the day i brought it.Now after almost 6yrs is high time to change or rather upgrade my bike. So the search began.
                        • Looking on street every bike that passed by on my way from home to Office
                        • looking at parking space with my friend and trobuling them a lot
                        • Watching videos Compairison review etc etc.

and then Finally shortlisted 4 bikes:
                        Yamaha SZRR
                        Honda Trigger
                        TVS Apache
Honda Twister(YEs u heard it right)
So confused. This was a review about YAmaha FZS FI and where is it in the list.(Miracle happens)

I was almost going to buy Yamaha SZ RR and then the Showroom ppl told this model is going to be closed. And now again which bike to go for.
Honda Trigger: To put it in 2 words "Uncle's Bike"
TVS Apache: GOod for a year and then bike lacks at engine refinement level.
Honda Twister: Sorry Luna without peddal.

Then finally version 2.0 was launched and i just went on with the same processreviews, obsevation compare. NO..
this time just booked the vehicle. The only problem i had was which color and then i took Blue Black.

Day 1: Ride from showroom till home. Enjoyed the bike like anything. Felt like i m siting at top of the world. Then it rained
I was extremly happy with the bikes performance

Day 2: Ride from Home to Office. It was around 325km drive from hebbal to Belendur. Bike performed great at low and mid Range.

for almost 1 month i didnt crossed 50Kms speed. and the time for 1st service.

                        After service:

                        Pros:
                        1. Gear Shifting became smooth
                        2. Rev at 5000rpms touched 80 kms with ease.
                        3. FE i am getting around 50-54kms/l

                        Con:
                        1. Bike sometimes vibrates at early moring during first start.

Finally, i have completed 1300kms with no big issues. having great fun with the same.

Please share your experiance or Problems. Few from my side:
                        1. Some tips to maintain bike in good condition
                        2. ENgine sound increased after 1st service.
                        3. After 70 to 80kms bike feels to start vibrate. is that true?
                        4. When is the best time to shift gears.(1st gear = rpm?)2nd gear = rpm?

A request to all, lets not discuss this topic here and spam every other ownership thread with comparisons.

There are already a couple of what bike queries on this and should be discussed there.

Whenever you look to try a new dish or the specialty dish of any city, you look for the original store, where it all started to get the authentic feel of the dish.
FZ-S is Apple and Gixxer is Samsung. I think you get the idea.
I tell you only by the experience of having owned the new V2 for past 4 months, and it has been a wonderful pleasure of riding this machine.

After having driven the bike for almost 4 months and 3000 KMs. Here is my review after the 2nd Service:

Looks:Still can't get enough of it. Trust me when I say this, i still turn back and have a last glance at my bike each time I park it.

Power & Pick-up: I wouldn't say the power is the best, but keep in mind this bike was made for the streets and not racing. I have taken few challenges on the roads and it beats up almost all bikes in pick-up, but on a straight road it definitely loses out because others (like CBR, Pulsar 200NS etc.) churn out more power than fzs

Engine: The engine has been butter smooth to say the least. Its a smooth revving engine, and after the 2nd service the noise has gone down considerably, the engine seems to lose breath at very high rpms, and you feel the need of a 6th gear. But it never gives up, you can push it harder on the throttle and it still manages to build momentum.

Handling: I am a guy who likes to drive in the city, and boy this bike is awesome, when it comes to city driving. Its handling is amazing, the maneuverability of this bike brings a smile on my face with each turn i take. The bike moves exactly in the direction you want, no fuss.

Mileage: People often ask me "kitta deti hai? FZ hai to kam hi deti hogi" (How much is the mileage, since its FZ it must yield low mileage). Well, you should see the looks on their faces when I say that it gives me a mileage of 50 kmpl.

I have read a lot of people talking on-paper comparisons of various bikes, but trust me its not the bike, its the way you drive a bike. You have to be patient in the run-in, its like bringing up a pet, you got to train it, let it make mistakes, but in the end patience pays off and you get a loyal friend.

Love your bike and it will love you back selflessly.

(Kindly wear a helmet while driving, as someone on this forum says "You can buy a new helmet, not a new head")

Here is a pic of my 4-months old sweetheart
