Re: Yamaha FZ16 version 2.0
That goes without saying, but what are the consequences. It basically shares the same bore/block structure with the older version, except for a reduction of 4 cc. I am assuming that the engine will give up before 50 k. Btw my mileage figures are constantly hovering at above 65+Originally posted by nomad47 View PostBENEATH THE REMAINS.........

Re: Yamaha FZ16 version 2.0
You sure calculating the mileage right? I don't think this bike can deliver 65+.Originally posted by chaosaddict View PostThat goes without saying, but what are the consequences. Re: Yamaha FZ16 version 2.0
Constantly or at least occasionally at 8500 RPM i.e. @ 110 kmh and getting more than 65 kml. None of the other bikes gives this FE even on highways. May be because of the FI, though the gears are shorter due to the 41T rear sprocket now.Originally posted by chaosaddict View PostYes very much, m on the highway mate
But I too think that figure is inaccurate.

Re: Yamaha FZ16 version 2.0
From what once an editor of an automotive magazine told me, it seems that engines are ok to take that kind of abuse, but the manufacturers do not state it in their manual because they do not want to risk the warranty provided on the engine. He also told me that we should avoid running it at constant RPMs so as to avoid glazing the piston (city riding helps here, since we will keep revving up and down. From what i looks like you do not have much of a choice if you are forced to drive on the highways). Also from what i understood from other blogs and posts is that you need to replace the oil fairly quickly depending on how much you are demading from the engine.Originally posted by chaosaddict View PostThat goes without saying, but what are the consequences. Re: Yamaha FZ16 version 2.0
Nahi re bawa, problem is when you are on a buttersmooth highway, things go little outta control.
After 2500 km and two regular servicing, the bike is showing realistic mileage as of today - 45 kmpl and still 65 for another rider. Bike does not go beyond 9k rpm and feels slightly better than the previous version IMHO.
Rest of the story, after 5000 km.BENEATH THE REMAINS.........

Re: First service report @ Bikerz Nanganallur
Got my first service done today @ Bikerz Nanganallur with 745 kms on the ODO.
Had asked them to take care of the following:
1) Gear shifts were hard. It had become progressively hard to shift to neutral as well
2) High beam was misaligned with the beam parallel to the ground and no throw on the road ahead
3) Fuel gauge being erratic. Reached the half-way mark gradually, but the drop thereafter was quick
4) A strain/vibration after crossing 4k rpm
After the service, the gear shifts seem to have become smoother. Will have to wait and see if it stays that way.
High beam alignment, yet to confirm.
Fuel gauge - they gave up saying nothing could be done about it. Need inputs from other owners as to how it was fixed (saw a few posts mentioning the same was corrected in their first service)
The vibration has gone down now, but still present. Will have to check with another vehicle and see if its the case and is normal for the vehicle.
Apart from these, the engine has become more smooth at less than 4k rpm. However, felt the engine heat on my right ankle while riding back home. Had never felt it before the service. It became too hot in a few instances and had to shift and adjust my leg position.
Checked the FZ/FZ-S thread and two possible reasons were mentioned: (1) Engine running lean or (2) Engine oil grade
With the version 2.0 using FI, where the ECU calculates the amount of fuel to be injected, can reason (1) still be possible? There is an idling adjustment screw though.
And is there a way to find out the grade (xWy) and the nature(mineral/semi-synthetic) of the engine oil that was put in? The bill says 90793AD403 as the part # for the engine oil used and cost Rs.297/-

Re: Yamaha FZ16 version 2.0
Serviced my ride today with ODO reading 577 (1st service). They charged 490 rupees total (more than I expected)
1. Fuel meter problem not solved. They don't have a clue. When I told some guys have had it fixed they said they will contact H.O. and get back to me.
2. Slight vibrations above 5k. I think its solved.
3. They have tightened the clutch lever a notch more. Asked them to undo it. Still it feels tight.
4. I felt the shifting was more smoother before servicing.
5. Engine growl has increased definitely post service. I have no idea why has it increased.
I checked the top speed that can be achieved. I touched 109 km/hr briefly. (Went down to 70km/hr after that. Am afraid of riding at high speeds). The climb from 90 was really slow. And the engine was screaming like anything. Will never go to that speed again.
